70 Smiles

In Elise and Chris Servant’s 12-person Christmas photo, 93 percent smiled but Chris made up for his infant grandchild’s studied indifference. Since 1986, Joe Digiovanni has owned Joe D’s Wine Bar-Cafe in Kansas City, the old “The Monastery” where brown-robed servers toiled. His current prize, the former Cafe Allegro, is Joe D’s on 39th, famed for black mussels and KC’s best osso buco. President Paul Partyka provided classy MSU minireunion photographs which I missed while in Munster, south of his birthplace in Emsdetten. Managing partner of NAI Realvest in Maitland FL, he moved here via Ellis Island in 1952. Michigan minireunion is Sept. 6. Steve Strachota’s father, 93, and mother, 95, died after 68 years of marriage. Progeny included three ND sons, three Marquette daughters, three ND grandchildren, one Marquette grandchild. Steve’s daughter Mandi released “Fly,” an enjoyable CD for home or car. Retired Navy Cmdr. David Porter saw Jerry English ’71Arch in Charleston SC. Dave plans to trout fish with Larry Vuillemin and Tom Smith. He recommends Delaney’s on Sullivan’s Island. Condolences to the families of Mark Crawford who died in 2005; Bob Pautot (2009, Deland, FL), survived by Cheryl and two sons; Ken Kraly (2013, Union NJ, from Alumni Hall), survived by Patricia and three children; Professor Tom Fauls (2013), survived by Brenda and two children. Lisa and Kevin Kennedy, Flair Communications VP, have attended all Shamrock series victories: Dallas, San Antonio, New York, Washington and Chicago. At Dave O’Donovan’s October retirement, hundreds of clients and peers cheered his corporate financial portfolio management. Geri and John Murtagh, JeanMarie, son-in-law John, and three grandchildren toured Europe and loved the apartment rental for six days in Paris and five days in Rome. Monet’s Garden in Giverny remains attractive 100 years later. They saw the Servants, O’Malley Smiths, and Mary and Kevin Myles during an East Coast trip. They cruised the Caribbean, toured Venice, Croatia, Budapest, Prague, and the Danube, and skied in January. Fifteen months after Hurricane Sandy damaged her house, Geri’s sister received $232. Marcia and Mike Hammes of Vero Beach FL often see their nine very young grandchildren. Tom Mignanelli’s six grandchildren include premature twins born in November 2012 to Tara and Chris ’99. Jim Rohr, retired CEO and executive chairman of PNC, is a director for GE, Allegheny Technologies, EQT Corp., Marathon, and BlackRock. Sheryl and Dick Hogan visited Ecuador in February and March. Daughter Catherine married in New Orleans in November. Attending were Vito Racanelli, Cathy and Tom Hogan ’65, Bob Hogan ’67, Teresa Hogan-Long ’74, and niece Kara Lenahan-Goodwin ’71. 70JD Aloha

On a cold, snowy January morning I was greeted with an email that stated: “Aloha from Hawaii.” The sender was Tom DiGrazia, who has lived in Hawaii since the mid-1980s. Prior to that time, Tom and Louisa, who have been married for at least 35 years, lived and worked in Alaska. Tom mentioned that his first wife, Iris, is now deceased. Some of you may recall that she was part of the “Band of Luckies” who spent a year abroad in London during our law school days. Before heading to Alaska, Tom had practiced in Santa Barbara with John Forhan. Tom commenced his law practice in Kailua on the Island of Oahu in 1985 and closed his office in 2007. After a yearlong sabbatical in Santa Barbara, Tom returned to Hawaii and taught mediation and conflict courses at Hawaii Pacific U. Today, Tom continues his peacemaking practice with a focus on family law. He has self-published a memoir titled, Peacemaker: A Sicilian American Memoir, and is writing a new book on non-violence and family law mediation. Tom and Louisa also operate a yoga studio in their home, the Yoga School of Kailua. Should any of you be headed out to Hawaii, contact me and I will get you in touch with Tom. He has a one bedroom vacation rental available and would enjoy seeing each and every one of you, perhaps, not all at once. Jim Kirker writes from Rhode Island that all is well and his book, Izzy and the Three Kings, is available on Amazon in digital format. Jim is a certified trial attorney and continues his active practice. He has a beautiful home on the Atlantic which, as I understand it, survived Hurricane Sandy when it struck in 2012. The one thing that Jim and Tom share in common, other than the fact they live on oceans, is their pride in their children and grandchildren. I want to congratulate all of you who made it through the winter. Back in February, as Marie and I were planning a short trip to San Diego, we became snow bound in the Buffalo area. Once again, our dear friends JoAnn and Mike Kelleher opened their home to us for a couple of nights, and, as always we had a really enjoyable visit. Mike is already looking forward to our next class reunion. They send their best to all. I’ll close by saying “aloha” to all. I hope to hear from you soon. — John K. 71 Bengal Bouts Stalwart

Congratulations to Tom Suddes of Columbus who was awarded an honorary monogram in March for his 40-plus years of working with the Bengal Bouts. A distinguished entourage of Pat McFadden of Honolulu, Jim McGraw of Cincinnati, Bill Schoen of Toledo and Jim Bowman of St. Louis was on hand to offer support. Mary and Jim Malloy of South Bend were the parents of the bride when daughter Maura was wed on campus in February. Condolences to Cindy and Jim Witchger of Indianapolis on the passing of their son Drew. Last season’s Navy game saw a large contingent of the class attend, in spite of the iffy weather. Maureen and Bob Bullard of Bluffton SC and Claudia and Paul Dusseau of Columbus made that weekend their annual trek to campus as a foursome. Bob Neidert was able to cajole Scott Hempel to return for a visit. Katie and Scott recently relocated from Atlanta to Owensboro KY, Katie’s hometown. Hopefully the move will afford Scooter the opportunity for more frequent trips to campus. Doc Collins promised to pass along the itinerary for their group’s annual road trip to major league parks this summer. Also on hand were Dickie Johnson, Mike Morrisson, Pete Van Dyk and Jim Cavanaugh, while Pat O’Brien of Dayton hosted his son-in-law. Attendees at the BYU game included Jerry Riley and Jim Zeller, along with Joe Kubinski and Pat McAdams. Pat has sold the family’s chain of Wisconsin grocery stores and is semi-retired. However, that does not mean that the annual buying trips to the Napa Valley for wine must end. The shipping address for copious purchases now contains his home address instead of the stores’. At the spring banquet honoring the national championship men’s soccer team, Rich Hunter was recognized for his coaching contributions in the earlier days of the program. Chuck Snakard is recuperating from surgery for a detached retina. He notes wryly that the original equipment is wearing out. If you will be on campus for any games this fall be sure to look for the ’71 flag in the stadium lot, due south of Gate C. It signifies cold beer and hot brats. — John Snider; 2010 N. 71MBA Stay in Touch

Not much communication has arrived from classmates but I did want to get this in the magazine to encourage everyone to let me know what is going on. With the passing of numerous years since we graduated, I know that we all have various health issues, however I hope everyone is doing as well as possible. Take care and stay in touch. — Tony Strati; 8238 Raintree Drive, NE, Albuquerque NM 87122; cell 505-205-3563; tstrati42@gmail.com

71JD Visiting

Rudy Gerber advises that he retired from the Arizona Court of Appeals in 2001. He returned to practice and did death penalty defense work including a case that went to the US Supreme Court. Five years ago he and Kathleen moved from Arizona to Encinitas CA in southern California to escape the Arizona heat. Rudy continues to do arbitration work and to teach law. This spring he was a visiting law professor at the American U of Armenia in Yerevan where he also advised the ministry of justice on some human rights and criminal justice issues. Rudy advises that Carol and Bob Salatka also live in Encinitas, and that the Gerbers and Salatkas get together on occasion. I have seen Vince Ginestre and several of his adult children at football games these last two years, and he is doing well. Leslie and Dave Kabat have relocated to Michigan City IN and Dave commutes to work in Chicago when the cold and snow permit. Dave and I recently toured the ND Law School “Externship in Chicago” facilities in the Santa Fe Building at 224 S. Michigan Ave. Very impressive. I also see Mary Anne and Fred Kuhar at most of the football games, and on occasion Ken “Hawk” Hoch makes an appearance at our tailgate as well. You are all most welcome to join our tailgate parties. We always park under the “Great ’68” flag in front of Legends. Just let me know when you will be attending. Let me know your news. My best to you and your families. — E. Bryan Dunigan; 221 N. 72MBA Ready for Some Football?

I am sorry about that headline but again I haven’t heard from any of you so all I have to report is football plans. Bill Effler, John Doyle and I are planning to attend the Michigan game on Sept. 6. If anyone else is attending that weekend, please let me know so we can make plans to get together. And, as always, I urge all of you to let me hear what’s going on in your lives. Really, this column would be much more interesting if I heard from just one or two of you each quarter. — Alex McLellan; 9662 W. 86th St., Apt. 73 King in New Position

Congratulations to Pamela King, who took a new position recently with Cadence Health in Winfield IL. Pam volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House of Charities in Chicago and stays active with boxing, yoga and biking. I heard from *Mark Checchia, who attended last year’s reunion. Mark retired from the federal government in 2009 and started his own consulting company. He is now working on several contracts with the US government and NATO. In his spare time he teaches political science at Old Dominion U in Norfolk VA. I saw Rick Barrett at the Rockne dinner in Chicago in May. Rick is an attorney in Chicago. I received a very nice email from Betsy Kain telling me of her fun connecting with several classmates at last year’s reunion. These included Beth Lombardi Oliva of Barrington IL, Phyllis Collelo Whiting of Binghamton NY, Connie Smith Barker of Washington DC, Becky Bartzen Leader of McLean VA, Pat McCracken of Franklin TN, Mary Beth Mulchay O’Neil of Tampa FL, Cathe Moran of Chicago, Cindy Booth of Virginia, Ann Rogers of Illinois and Learose Detesco Moody of Ohio. Bob O’Brien sadly informs us that Ralph Nedelkoff passed away in January. Quarterback Pat Steenberge gave an eloquent eulogy for his former roommate. Also in attendance were the Hon. Tim Slavin, Peggy Dues-Harrier and Patty McAnallen-O’Leary. Bob and his friends will honor Ralph at the Stanford weekend this fall. Robert Fulton was in the marine construction industry for 30 years at McDermott International in New Orleans. He and wife Jamie would love to show fellow alumni this great town. They survived Hurricane Katrina aboard a deep-sea pipe-lay vessel in the Mississippi River. Andrew Maimona wrote from Hudson OH, where he is a certified financial planner. Andrew also owns a Beef O’Brady’s in Brimfield OH. I am looking for more news. — Michael W. Hansen; 735 Essington Road, Joliet IL 60435; fax 815-744-4515; mikehansen@mikehansenlaw.com

73MBA Looking for Classmate Responses

Gene Schraeder shares with us that he is managing a Wells Fargo Advisors Branch Office in Bluffton SC, just outside of Hilton Head. He and his wife Ellen live in a golf community. Chuck Welter has visited a few times and enjoyed a good meal, as well as a round of golf with Gene. Their son Matthew teaches at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey CA. He is a Navy commander. Ellen’s two children also live on the West Coast. His health seems to be good except for the usual aches and pains that come with aging. He has no plans to retire. He has been in his current position fulltime for eight years. He enjoys his work providing advice to a “limited-sized” client base. He invites all to visit him at any time. Beginning in March, our son Peter took a position as assistant director of immunization and pathology at Baylor U Hospital in Houston TX. His wife, after graduating from Albany Medical College in May, will start a three-year medical internship at Baylor U Hospital in emergency medicine. You are always welcome to contact us when in southern California. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Fill up our allotted space. Let us create a backlog of articles to print. If you have not corresponded in some time, please take the time to share your experiences with your classmates. Most importantly, forward to me your new email addresses and those of your classmates. — Thomas Jindra; 7179 Alviso Ave., Riverside CA 92509; res and fax 951-685-2091; tajindra@charter.net

74 Summer Fun Ahead

My reunion news is forthcoming, and we know it will be classic. At the writing of this class column, the submission was required before our reunion commenced, therefore additional news and views will be forthcoming for the fall review. Meanwhile, for the early spring months, information to share comes from Robert Donovan. Although disappointed in not being able to attend our reunion, he is excited to enjoy the good life since he retired from McDonald’s last March. For 25 years, Robert was involved in the financing of McDonald’s restaurants around the world, which included 75 countries and six continents. Now he and his wife Carolyn plan to enjoy time between Chicago and their home in Colorado’s Vail Valley. Bob also notes that his fellow soccer teammates lit up the internet reconnecting upon the national championship won by last year’s ND men’s squad in December. Chris (Hawk) Stevens was honored to receive the Frank O’Malley award and the Undergraduate Professor of the Year. Chris is an adjunct professor at Notre Dame. Bill Fenton sent in some quick updates. Bill is a non-profit manager who lives in Boca Raton and is president of the ND Club of Boca Raton. Mike Budd is a banker and also lives in Boca Raton; he’s the vice president of the ND Club of Boca Raton. Mike Martin is an accountant residing in Tampa and is the president of the ND Club of Tampa. Joe Logisz is an airline pilot and lives the good life in Marco Island. Lastly, Greg Thomas is a consultant who lives in Singer Island FL. All are very active in their local ND clubs. Michael Kulczycki had good fortune in late fall to have two classmate minireunions. During a business trip to Houston, he connected with Joe Greff, formerly of Zahm Room 222 fame, and during a business trip to Philadelphia, he connected with Tom McAndrews, fellow American Studies major and literary festival staffer. I am personally looking forward to seeing you all at our reunion with pad and pen in hand. Keep writing. — Dede Lohle Simon; domerdede@aol.com

75 Memories from Angers

Tom Harrison writes from California about a reunion of some of the alumni from the SUNDEF program in Angers, France. After 41 years of talking and dreaming about it, they actually went back to Angers together. He said, “The university treated us like returning heroes with honorary diplomas, a luncheon, a vin d’honneur (special toast) including remarks by the head of the university and visits from some of our old teachers from 1972-73. The real surprise was when the current students in Angers paraded into the room singing the Victory March. We leapt to our feet and they pulled us all to the front, linked arms, and sang the Alma Mater with us. There were tears all around. It was fun to compare notes with this year’s crop of students in Angers. Returning alums were Franca DePaola and Brian Deery, Shelly McArdle and Dave Larson, Jason Mims, Mark and Kathy (Quigley) Montague, Tom Russo, Carlos and Teresa Salazar. The rest of our group was with us in spirit.” Tom’s email address is taharrison@aol.com. Rob Healy from Philadelphia reports that he provides management and financial consulting for small businesses. His three sons are grown, and he remains friends with former roommate Bob Clemency, who is a South Bend orthopedic surgeon and doctor for the ND hockey team. Bill Sohn recently retired from the public defender’s office in Vermilion County IL, and now is practicing with the Doyle Law firm in Danville. He recently had a daughter married in Joliet IL and a son married in Medellin, Colombia. Steve Reiff has taken early retirement from BNY Mellon Wealth Management, where he was a national director, also serving as the former chief investment officer of their Lockwood Advisors business. Now he is CEO of Beechwood, Inc. and the president of COMAX, Inc., the family office for the John F. “Jack” and Rhodora J. Donahue Family Foundation, which supports Catholic education and other related charities. Reach him at shreiff@gmail.com. 76 Leading the Way

Wendy Duffey was on campus pinch hitting for the president of the ND Club of Cape Cod at the annual Leadership Conference, formerly Alumni Senate. While in the area, she took a side trip to have lunch with one of her former Walsh roommates, Sue (Caranci) Pronove and her mom, Marie, 87 years young. Sue is still working for the airline that hired her on campus, although Northwest is now flying under Delta’s name. She has been busy taking her youngest daughter Elizabeth on college tours, looking for the best place for her to study and play Division 1 volleyball. She is planning an African safari for her middle daughter, Cristina, who graduates from college this May. Last year she took her eldest to Machu Picchu for her graduation. Wendy also caught up with Tom Young, who hadn’t been back to campus in over a decade. He still works for New York Life and was there representing the senior alumni from Region 11. He was comparing notes with Tom Spencer, who is the director for senior alums from Region 8. The two Toms have donated 47 gallons of blood to the Red Cross since graduation. Tom Spencer celebrated the marriage of his daughter Maggie this year, and Tom Young needed to get back to Andover MA in time to celebrate his 33rd wedding anniversary. Our classmate Lionel Phillips is a newly elected member of the Alumni Board from Region 5; he will have the time to devote to the cause since he retired from IBM this year after 37 years. Class treasurer Steve Klug was at the meetings doing double duty, as he is president of the ND Club of South Jersey. His club is doing some great work piloting a new initiative for high school students called ND Ignite. Steve ran into Bob Quakenbush while he was tailgating at the Blue Gold Game. Bob was taking pictures for our class Facebook page. Jeanine Sterling was at the meetings in her capacity as a steering committee member of ND Women Connect. Thanks to Tom Klein, Wendy and Steve got to attend an event in the hockey arena and also attended the Blue Gold game with Mark Nishan’s daughter Lindsay ’14. Mark couldn’t make the game because he was returning to campus the next week to watch Lindsay’s last game as a manager for the women’s lacrosse team. Steve and Tom attended the annual Irish Eyes Gala for the Kelly Cares Foundation in NYC on April 23. To celebrate their 60th year, former Walsh roommates Angela Lamm Zarnoti and Wendy headed to France in June. Ed Byrne spent his 60th birthday in February with his son, Conor ’09, skiing in a foot of powder at Eldora Mountain Resort, west of Boulder, until noon, and then played 18 holes of golf in 60-degree weather to complete the day. Ed says it was just about perfect. “Living on Advil and thankful for icepacks.” Mary Beth (Weber) ’77SMC and Don Schmitt have moved to Hong Kong, where he has accepted a one-year position with Hasbro. On a sadder note, Barb Curlee ’77, sister of Ginny Curlee Koenig, died recently after a long illness. Our classmate Stan Cardenas passed away on Easter Sunday. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. 77 The Times, They Are A-Changin’

Dennis Hanno is the new president of Wheaton College in Norton MA, leaving Babson College where he served as provost. Rev. Anne Dilenschneider PhD is busy with international symposium invitations and pastoral work with the United Methodist Church. Anne has been a popular speaker on the topic of recovery from trauma in past months: at an international conference of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies in California; at the North American Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies in Oregon, on restorative justice; and as a member of a cross-cultural restorative justice project in North Dakota, “The Keepers of the Canton Native Asylum Story,” which Anne published in The Northern Plains Ethics Journal in October. Maureen and Greg Bachmann hosted a Holy Cross dormitory minireunion for the first time in 36 years outside Columbus OH. Steve Rieker, Jeff Lukken, Kathy ’80SMC and Jerry Hepler, Lou Janda, Larry McAndrews, Lou Sertich and Steve Blubaugh were joined by Steve’s parents, Jean and George Blubaugh ’53, and John Noell ’78. They celebrated Steve Rieker’s recovery, Larry McAndrew’s retirement, engagement and move from Green Bay to Hong Kong with his new bride, and Jerry Hepler’s retirement and move from San Antonio to Hawaii. Jeff Lukken, mayor of La Grange GA for 16 years, flew to Pittsburgh to pick up Steve Rieker. “All of us are blessed for having met such great life-long friends at Notre Dame.” Nancy Rix ’77SMC and John Kraft of Plano TX announced the marriage of their daughter Megan Kraft ’11SMC to Matthew Gray ’10 on July 27, 2013, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. John and Nancy also celebrated their 35th anniversary. They were married at the Basilica on July 15, 1978. Kathy and Jerry Graham, Ken Patricia, Tim Cawley, Marty Koppenhafer, Jim O’Connor MD, Kathy McLarty, Greg Ivancic and Tom Reidy ’85 attended the festivities. Retired Indiana State Police Officer Tim McCarthy gave a surprise wedding reception introduction for the bridal couple, along with his famous safety message after the applause subsided. “May I have your attention please? This is Tim McCarthy for the Indiana State Police. The Kraft and Gray families are happy you are here to celebrate the nuptials of Matthew and Megan. They hope you are having a great time and they also want everyone to get home tonight safe and sound. So please drive carefully, take your time, and above all, do not let drinking and driving spoil your day. Megan and Matthew tied the knot today, but remember, you may be at the end of your rope if you tie one on!” Dave Caron’s daughter Monique Caron ’08, an architect specializing in LEED certification, was elected to the Notre Dame Alumni Association Board. Barbara Boylan’s son William O’Connell is the new editor-in-chief of the Duke U Law Journal. Two classmates passed away far too soon: Barb Curlee, after a long courageous battle, and Jack Moran, suddenly. Our hearts are deeply saddened by their loss, and we ask that you keep their families in thoughts and prayers. Margaret Grace, the mother of Nora Grace; Evelyn Provost, the mother of Phyllis Provost McNeil; Rose Crowley Manning and Judge Bob Manning, the mother and stepfather of Karen Crowley Metzinger; and William Toth, the father of Marian Toth Sullivan, have also passed on. 77MBA College Boys

I share my thoughts and welcome yours. I am still practicing law in Chicago, doing personal injury. I have two sons in college, so retirement is not on my agenda. Charlie is a junior and in the business school at Ole Miss. George is a sophomore at Michigan and a wrestler, 133/141 pounds. 78 Summer Breeze

Greetings classmates! I trust everyone is enjoying a great summer, filled with lots of baseball, beaches, bratwurst and sunsets. I am spending most of my summer at an Oceanfront Resort in North Wildwood NJ, where I concentrated my efforts on writing, reading, beaching and sampling the local cuisine. I was blessed to share time with some of our classmates, including Nace Mullen, who spent a good deal of time at his Stone Harbor Villa with his wife and little Nace; Greg Switaj, who continues in the roll of hoagie czar, opening a string of Jersey Mike’s Sub Shops; Steve “Bones” Conover, the self-proclaimed “King of Brunch,” who came down for a visit from Connecticut; and Jim “Boobie” Clarke, up from Virginia, where he has become somewhat of a corporate real estate superstar. Boobie is still following St. Louis Cardinals baseball and has become an expert on shish-ka-bob. In June, the Philadelphia Club honored Marianne Corr at its Universal Notre Dame Dinner. For those of you who may not know, Marianne is a University Vice President and General Counsel, and a Philly girl! In March, at the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade, John Delaney and I had the honor once again of carrying the Philadelphia Club banner, leading club members along the parade route. Don “Dancing Bear” Smail is still in training for his “50 states in 50 dates” tour, crisscrossing the country every chance he gets. Don’s home base (when he is there) is still beautiful Copperopolis CA. He is a veritable encyclopedia on all things travel related: how to get the best hotel rates, best time to book a flight, how to haggle with car rental agencies, even top restaurants in various cities. Don was on campus for the Alumni Association’s annual Leadership Conference and reports that Digger’s keynote speech was one for the ages. Jimmy “Dun-bar” Dunne and John “Cuz” Coyne, both in the Big Apple, are doing their parts to keep the country financially solvent. Jimmy, as a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, had an audience with Pope Francis in January. That’s a long way from Senior Bar, Dun-bar! Congratulations! John went to a lot of Yankees games and developed an interest in World Cup Soccer. Rich “Riles” Riley is enjoying retirement, spending more time at the seashore, traveling and indulging his passion for watercolors. Randy “Wheat” Heimbuch checked in to say he enjoyed the England Dan & John Ford Coley reunion gig this past summer. His new hobby is collecting old vinyl from obscure artists from the 70s. George Matteo joined Bisgaier Hoff, a law firm based in Haddonfield NJ, as a partner in May. In March, Dr. James Benenati delivered the keynote address at the National Society of Interventional Radiology’s 39th Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego. Benenati is an interventional radiologist and the medical director of both the Peripheral Vascular Laboratory at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute and Interventional Radiology for Baptist Health South Florida. Mary White Packer is a member of the Board of Advisors at St Francis de Sales parochial school in Philadelphia, which happens to be my alma mater. Mary is persistent in urging me to join her on the Board. One of these days, Mary. Many thanks to Pat Flynn for being the unofficial host to many of us when we are back on campus. Pat is as friendly and gracious as ever, and is always happy to see a fellow member of “the class with class!” Friends, I can’t do this without you. Please send me any info that you have. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee appointed our classmate, John Ruhl, as King County (Seattle) Superior Court Judge effective April 1. At the time of his appointment, John was a member of the law firm of Ryan, Swanson and Cleveland in Seattle. He was the past president of the King County Bar Association and the founding president and past board member of the Dispute Resolution Center of King County. Congratulations, John. Be sure to grab a copy of Ed De Vivo’s new, thought provoking novel Imputed Knowledge, available on Amazon.com. The book creates an intriguing tale of a terrorist hijacking of a 767 as subsequently viewed through the eyes of an aviation defense counsel. One review of the book describes Imputed Knowledge as “the chronicle of a ‘thinking’ faith, a faith that challenges doubt rather than avoids the difficult questions that reason simply cannot answer.” You can learn more about the book at www.devivolaw.com, and all of the author’s proceeds go to Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation. Last, but not least, a shout out goes to Randy Velzen who was named in the March 2014 Michigan Lawyers’ Weekly as one of the 30 attorneys in the state who were “Leaders in the Law 2014.” Randy continues to practice family law with an emphasis on mediation and collaboration in Grand Rapids and he remains the secretary of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Please take a minute to drop me a note about what is happening in your neck of the woods. — Dan LaVille; US Bankruptcy Court, One Division Ave. North, Room 200, Grand Rapids MI 49503; bus 616-732-2751; dlaville@comcast.net
