00 It Feels Like Yesterday

Congrats Class of ’00! We made it to the 15-year mark and Reunion 2015 was quite a success. A lot of fun was had by all who attended. Before I get to that news, let me apologize for no column in the last magazine. I have included all the updates in this edition. Shaunti Athoff let me know that the Walsh gals seem to celebrate annual reunions together, with the most recent being the most highly attended. Stacie (Santiago) Hines hosted this year in Tampa FL, welcoming the following Wild Women: Amanda Hicks, Kelly Wahlen, Laura (McGrimley) Walby, Amy (Keller) Niemier, Karen Boselli, Julianne (Jenkins) Braun, Sarah (Sweetman) Carr, Emily (Whelan) Parento, Meagan Carlevato, Monica (Gomez) Cauble, and Shaunti Althoff. Beth (Wladyka) O’Brien missed out this round as she was “nesting” in New Jersey. Good luck to Beth, and keep those ND connections strong, Wild Women. Speaking of keeping connections strong, A.J. Boyd was appointed to the ND Alumni Association Board for 2015-2018, representing Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Those are some far-reaching connections, and we appreciate the work you’re doing, AJ. As far as work goes, Amber (Aguiar) and Andy Ankowski have written their first book together, Think Like a Baby: 33 Simple Research Experiments You Can Do at Home to Better Understand Your Child’s Developing Mind. This informative yet hilarious parenting book combines Amber’s expertise in child development, which she obtained while earning her PhD at UCLA, and Andy’s expertise in cracking jokes, which he honed as a two-time head writer of the Keenan Revue. You can learn more about the book, being published by Chicago Review Press, at Amber and Andy’s website, DoctorandDad.com. It definitely sounds like a book some of us may try to use on our kids. Anne (French) and Liam Thidemann welcomed their fourth child, Killian Liam, on Jan. 24. Killian joined sisters Moira, 10, and Beibhinn, 3, and brother Logan, 7. Anne and Liam live in Fairfield CT. Father Beau Schweitzer ’02MEd was ordained to the priesthood in Corpus Christi TX with the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity. His first assignment is in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Belize. A huge congratulations to you, Beau, and good luck in Belize. OK, on to the reunion news. First off, thank you to everyone who attended. It was truly a great success and so much fun to see old friends. Chrissy (Veliky) and Ben Scott added a third boy, Theodore Henry, to their family in March. Teddy and his brothers, Carter and Keegan, are doing well. On April 23, Ann (Miller) Hanlon was greatly honored to be sworn in by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal as a new member of the board of directors for the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority. Ann’s husband, Michael, their daughter, Elizabeth, and other family members were on hand to support Ann at the ceremony. In May, Carla da Silva and her husband, Tom Soria, welcomed their second child, Rafael Silva Soria. Rafael joins his brother, Lucas, who is very excited with the new addition. Carla is an internal audit manager in Miami FL. Kelly Catherine (O’Hagan) Medinger graduated in May with her master’s degree in non-profit administration from Notre Dame. Kelly is the executive director of the Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Foundation, a Catholic family foundation based in Baltimore. Her husband, Jason Medinger ’00, is an assistant US attorney in the narcotics section of the US Attorney’s Office in Baltimore. Vanessa (Mora) Deca and her husband, Marcos, welcomed a daughter, Victoria, on June 19. Victoria joins her big brother, Gabriel. My apologies to Dr. Carlos Gomez-Meade. 01MBA New Developments

Dan Hennessy is still with MillerCoors, celebrating his 10th year in June. Dan will be moving from Chicago to Atlanta to accept his new position as regional vice president, overseeing sales, marketing and finance for 12 states in the Southeast and DC. Dan and his family look forward to getting back south. Dan plans to attend the Clemson game in October, as well as a few of the road ACC basketball games in the winter. Sean Price is no longer with the U of Alberta, effective Jan. 2, 2015. Jen Meier is living in Gates Mills OH and is getting married in October. Mark Castleton and his family have been in the Phoenix area for eight years. Mark has been consulting for local government for the past year after spending four years doing real estate investing and two years of advanced studies in strategic management. Mark’s daughter Holly, 19, recently departed on a mission to Costa Rica for the next year and a half. Mark’s twins, Paul and Claire, are 11, daughter Sophie is 7, and Reed turns 4 in November. Fleur Davis Pang began a new position at Tobey Hospital in Wareham MA in March, working as a registered nurse in the post-surgical care unit. After graduating from Notre Dame, Michael Sarmiento served as vice president, finance at Nexxo Financial. He then served as vice president, finance at One Medical, expanding One Medical from four locations in the San Francisco area to 29 locations nationwide. He is currently COO of Private Medical and lives in the San Francisco area with his wife and two children. Scott Hart was appointed senior vice president of worldwide sales at Zaloni and will be reporting directly to Zaloni’s CEO, Ben Sharma. Prior to joining Zaloni, Scott was vice president of sales at Opower. He has held sales leadership roles at Oracle and led a product management team at IBM. Navy Cmdr. Jim Ouellette is retiring from the Navy JAG Corps after 21 years. He will leave his position as the deputy staff judge advocate of the US Strategic Command in Omaha and will be of counsel with the firm Hull-Barrett in Augusta GA. Jim and Stephanie have four kids: Ashley, 15; Alyssa, 14; Nicole, 9; and Nathan, 2, who was born while Jim was on assignment in Rome. Air Force officer Brian Banas graduated from the U of Nebraska College of Law with an LLM in space, cyber and telecommunications law. Brian attended school through the JAG Corps. Hope Durant Loomis is director of development for the Baylor U Law School and Honors College in Waco TX. The Loomis family, including husband Michael, daughters Susan and Caroline and son Charlie, relocated to Texas in October. Katherine (Pauls) and Ryan Walke and daughter Isabella welcomed Mason Ryan to their family on Sept. 16, 2014, and everyone is doing well. Plan now for our 15-year Reunion, which is scheduled for June 2-5, 2016. Our listserv has lost about 120 of our classmates. Laura (Rompf) and Dan Soldato welcomed daughter number four, Meredith Helen, on Jan. 9. She joins her sisters Addie, Catherine and Elise. Dan and Laura live in Lexington KY. Sarah and Jim Creagan have had a very busy 2015. They welcomed their son Danny, who joined his sister Claire, 2. They moved into a new house in Jim’s hometown in the Hudson Valley of NY, and Jim has taken over the family business, which involves OTC pharmaceutical manufacturing and sales. On top of all of this, they celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary. Patrick Brennan recently joined Chicago-based law firm Much Shelist, where he helps clients accomplish their business objectives while navigating the transactional and legal issues associated with commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leases and financings. He devotes a substantial portion of his practice to representing lenders in structuring, negotiating, documenting and completing commercial real estate acquisition and construction and development loans. Patrick also represents clients in credit restructurings, loan workouts and distressed asset sales, and he has significant experience resolving disputes in and outside of state and federal court litigation and bankruptcy cases. Katie Cafouros is wrapping up a 10-year stint in Australia and Papua New Guinea as an environmental and social performance advisor. She is relocating to San Diego to attend UCSD’s global policy and strategy advanced master’s program. Garrett Reuter was recently named a partner at his law firm, Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale PC, in St. Louis. Garrett’s practice involves advising individuals for estate planning and tax planning and working with corporations and other business entities on governance issues, business succession strategies and other general business needs. Michaela Murray-Nolan is in her 12th year running Kids Corporation, her family’s non-profit that provides academic summer and after-school programs for 3,000 underprivileged children in Newark NJ. Recently Michaela started to compensate for her lack of childhood athletic trophies by receiving charitable awards from The United Way and Prudential Foundation. She lives in Hoboken NJ and spoils her nephews and godchildren every chance she gets. Check out the amazing work performed by Michaela’s non-profit at kidscorp.com. John Morris has also experienced a whirlwind over the last year. After recovering from a car accident and a few months of physical therapy, John decided to move from Louisiana to the Atlanta area. He sold his house and retired from his career working for several casino companies. John took up a career in acting and has worked on television shows, films and commercials. To top it all off, John won a World Series of Poker Circuit Event. He defeated a field of 242 players to earn his first WSOP Circuit gold ring and the first place prize of $17,787. Life: Luke was born to Julia ’02JD and Scott Klein on Feb. 15. Luke’s smiling, calm demeanor and his love of eating serve as strong contrasts to Peter, 3, who has embraced his new role as big brother. Love: Eileen Murphy is married. Congratulations! She and Joe Bischoff wed at the Amelia Island Plantation in Florida in April in an outdoor ceremony under one of the island’s iconic live oak trees. As Joe is a golf pro, they were also next to the 9th and 18th greens as well. The week-long celebration included a golf outing, pig roast and dancing at the reception to songs last heard at the Farley Hall SYR. Domers in attendance included Marie (Hauck) Wilson ’95, Mary Ellen (Conte) Ault ’95, Julia Murphy ’94, Anne Marie (Quast) Brost ’94, ’08MBA, Jason Brost ’94,’06JD, Joey Coleman ’95, Joe Dziedzic ’95, Jenn (Carr) Dziedzic ’92 and Tom Brisken ’71. 02JD Kiawah Cousins

Tim and I spent two weeks this summer on Kiawah Island SC with Shelby and Dan Leonardi, Beth and Ryan Garino and Stephanie and TC Couhig. This annual trip is a highlight of our year as we look forward to catching up with old ND Law friends and watching the friendships grow for the next generation, 10 boys and a brave girl, affectionately known as the Kiawah Cousins. After five years as a partner in Nexsen Pruet’s intellectual property group, Dan Leonardi left big firm life in July to work as an assistant federal public defender in South Carolina, where he will be working alongside our classmate Kim Harvey Albro. Stephanie Couhig is director of global product stewardship for Hexion Inc., a global specialty chemicals company. She and TC live outside Columbus OH with their boys, Joe and Sam. I have moved in-house to Regis Technologies, Inc., the drug development company that my dad, Louis Glunz III ’54PhD founded in 1956. I’m enjoying the new challenges of in-house lawyering, as well as the opportunity to work closely with my dad. 03 In Memory of Kevin Hansen

Usually this column is filled with joyous news of weddings and births, but this time I have to report that we lost a dear classmate. On April 11, Kevin M. Hansen passed away after a courageous seven-day battle with acute myelocytic leukemia. Kevin taught theology at Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago and in addition to being a dedicated teacher and positive influence on many students, Kevin was also a pro-life advocate, supervising student trips to the March for Life event in Washington DC every year. In memory of Kevin, our class made a donation to the Kevin M. Hansen Scholarship Fund at Mt. Carmel High School. Please keep Kevin and his family in your prayers. In other news, Laurie (Hohberger) Manka married Grant Manka on July 5, 2014 at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Laurie and Grant live in Denver, where Laurie recently joined National Jewish Health as a staff pulmonologist and Grant runs his own business, Manka Design/Build. Victoria (Fetterman) and Tom Healy welcomed a daughter, Violet Annabel, with love in March. Jake Rodenbiker and his wife, Molly, along with their son JJ, welcomed Gianna Rebecca to their family on Feb. 15. They make their home in Watford City, the heart of North Dakota’s oil patch, where Jake serves as the McKenzie County state’s attorney, Molly is a homemaker and JJ is an aspiring Irish hockey player. Joanne Davidson married Kieran Fahey in April. Joanne recently accepted a job as the research communications program director at Notre Dame, so the couple are relocating from Dublin to South Bend. John Mirshekari got married May 30 to Cristina Joy, a 2007 Boston College grad, in Boston. John and Cristina honeymooned in Italy and live in Boston. Elizabeth (Jablonski-Diehl) ’04SMC and Jeff Newcamp moved to Delft, a small canal town in the Netherlands. Jeff was promoted to major in the Air Force and took an assignment at the Technical U of Delft. Elizabeth is staying home with their two boys, Henry and Oliver. Sonia Wallace and Andrew Hospodar were married on April 24 in Pittsburgh. The two had been aware of each other since 1988 but didn’t start dating until they happened to be visiting their parents in Ohio at the same time in 2013. There was an instant connection and they never looked back. Andy graduated from West Point and served in the military for five years. The wedding was attended by Melissa (Flores) Johnson ’06, Meghan (O’Donnell) Podolny, Derek Podolny, Son Nguyen ’03, Shawna Monson, John Dee, Linda Hu, Nestor Alvarado and David Wallace ’91. Andy’s company assigned him to a new project, so the couple will be living in England for a few years until the project’s completion. Let the tea party begin. On the same day as Sonia and Andy’s wedding, Maureen (Bresnahan) and Jake Baska had their second daughter, Tegan Brigid. She joins big sister Madeline. The family lives in Granger IN; Jake and Maureen work for the University. Frankie (Beecroft) and E.J. Jones ’03 welcomed their first child, Edward Franklin Jones III (“Teddy”) on May 12. This summer, the family moved from Chicago to South Bend, as Frankie joined the educational leadership faculty of the ACE program in the Remick Leadership Program. She is completing her dissertation for her PhD in policy studies in urban education at the U of Illinois-Chicago. Katie Drinan and her husband, Pete, announce the birth of their second child, Margaret Rose “Maggie” on May 27. She was welcomed home with lots of hugs and kisses by her big brother Charlie. Kathleen Gilmartin Jensen got married on June 19 in Chicago to Christopher Jensen, with many of her Pangborn friends there to celebrate with her. Shaina (Morphew) and Tom Doar welcomed daughter Stella Morphew Doar on June 30. Big sister Georgia was very excited. Camilla Pollock-Flynn and Michael Flynn welcomed their daughter, Mara Cardiff Flynn, on July 10. Camilla, Michael and Mara live in Chicago. Camilla works as an attorney at LaBarge, Campbell, and Lyon, LLC in Chicago, where she was promoted to partner at the beginning of 2015. Michael started his own construction software company, 14Fathoms, LLC in August of 2014 after working as a project manager at Turner Construction for six years. 14Fathoms specializes in developing easy-to-use project management software within the simplicity of Microsoft applications. Amy Chambers has been living in the LA area since 2007, earning her MBA from USC in 2010. She had the opportunity to do a lot of interesting traveling with her boyfriend during 2014. They traveled by boat from Florida to Barcelona, followed by a month in Europe, and another boat trip from Miami to LA through the Panama Canal. They have run several half-marathons and also biked a century: 100 miles without stopping. Amy works as a regional director for a mid-sized credit union in LA. Marcia (Valenzuela) Saldana welcomed Olivia Raquel in May. Big brother Daniel is getting used to not being an only child and has stopped trying to give Olivia back to the doctor. In May, Holly McDaniel and Justin Fuller were married in Chicago. Alison (Ruddy) married Martin Gustavo Arzac at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on June 26. Alison’s twin sister, Erica (Ruddy) Hogan, was the maid of honor. On July 5, Amy (Fehrenbacher) ’04 and Johannes “Hanni” Masserer celebrated the baptism of their son Matthias at Loyola High School’s Clougherty Family Chapel in Los Angeles. The godparents are Vincent and Erin Clougherty of Pasadena. Domers in attendance included Ivette (Flores) and Joseph Guintu, Derek Snyder and Florus Beuting ’02. Matthias’ late grandfather, Kim Fehrenbacher ’74, was there in spirit as was his uncle Paul Fehrenbacher ’00, who resides in Chicago. Annie Robinson married Andrew Ward ’03 on April 12 at Mission San Francisco de Asis. The ceremony was performed by Father Xavier Lavagetto, OP. In attendance were Annie’s Pangborn Hall/Washington St. roommates with spouses, all ‘05: Colleen (Traeger) and Dave Terschluse, Maria (Destino) Rualdi, Liz (Doyle) and *Dave Binz, Maggie (O’Connell)* and Tommy Horn. Also representing the Class of 2005 were Lisa Lombardi and Leah McKelvey. Annie is a manager of employee communications in the human resources division of Google in Mountain View CA. Andrew oversees music, sports and gaming content for the company’s YouTube division in San Bruno CA. Annie’s parents, Mary (Walsh) ’78 and Ted Robinson ’78, couldn’t be more excited for Annie and Andrew. Brett Cronin married Hayley Kuhn April 4 at the Martin Johnson House in La Jolla CA. His brothers Cal Cronin and Dan Cronin ’03 were in the wedding party. Other family members attending were Michaela Cronin Schultz ’00, Geoffrey Schultz ’00 and Delia Cronin ’11. Maria and Brian Jeselnick welcomed their first child, Grace Cisily, on July 13 in Los Angeles. They moved there in the last year. Brian is a senior manager of corporate brand development for The Walt Disney Company. Mandy and Rolando Vega Brockmann welcomed their third child, Joaquin Vega Araiza, on Nov. 12, 2014. They live in Mexico City and everything is going well. Clay Shumway has joined CVC Capital Partners as a managing director to head fundraising growth in the Americas. Clay continues to work in New York City; he lives with his wife and three children in New Canaan CT. Clay most recently worked for Monarch Alternative Capital, where he helped lead a fundraising effort for an oversubscribed distressed debt private equity fund while growing the hedge fund business. Prior to Monarch, Clay was the global head of business development and investor relations for Highland Capital Management, a Dallas based alternative investment manager. 05JD Lives and Adventures

Congratulations go out to Kurt Oreshack, who was hired in July as general counsel for Human Longevity Inc., the genomics-based, technology-driven company. Most recently, at Gunderson Dettmer LLP, Kurt served as external general counsel to over 100 private and public emerging growth companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, clean tech and software industries. HLI had been working with Gunderson since the company’s inception in March 2014, and Kurt was the point person for this work. He will bring to HLI vast experience as a capital markets expert, who has structured and negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and equity investments in private and public company clients and guided others through all phases of IPO preparation and execution, as well as public company reporting and compliance. He has also led M&A teams in billions of dollars of transactions, representing both acquirers and acquisition targets. He began his career at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP (now Dentons), where he served as securities counsel for more than $3 billion in public offerings and private placements. The new job was not his only big news this summer. He and his wife, Bridy, welcomed their son, Brody, as well. The family remains in San Diego, anxiously anticipating the ND-Navy football game there in the fall of 2018. Also in San Diego, Juan Castañeda opened Castañeda Trial Attorneys on July 13, a business trial firm based there. After 10 years of experience litigating on behalf of corporate clients with Am Law 100 firms and the Department of Justice, Juan decided to fulfill a dream of creating a boutique trial firm. His practice is focused on business litigation, white collar criminal defense and cross-border litigation matters for individuals and businesses, with a particular emphasis on flat fee litigation. On the personal side, the Castañeda family continues to thrive. In true Notre Dame fashion, Juan and Signe have six kiddos: Carsten, 12; Diego, 10; Soren, 8; Everett, 6; Mateo, 4; and Solaz, 1. Their minivan is officially full. Brian Stumpe and his wife, Laura, were expecting their seventh child in early August. Brian recently began his third term as the elected prosecuting attorney for Jefferson City MO, where he is at the forefront of legal innovation. He came up with the idea of creating an online alternative court for first time DWI offenders. Called “Portal DWI,” the program is facilitated in a 3D virtual environment for the purpose of educating participants on the effects of alcohol use. The online class consists of 10 hours of group education as well as two individual meetings with a counselor. In the three years since its inception, the county has had only a 6 percent recidivism rate for program participants, with no cost borne by taxpayers. The program recently received an award from the National Institute of Behavioral Sciences. Daniel Denny and his wife, Anna Liza, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Karissa, in January. Karissa joins her four brothers and two sisters. Life has changed somewhat since their first child was born during spring break of the 2L year. He practices with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher’s LA office in their business restructuring and reorganization group and the corporate department. Back in South Bend, Paul Harold and his wife, Brenda, welcomed their sixth child. They have five daughters. Paul also made partner at LaDue Curran & Kuehn LLP, where he focuses on business litigation, labor and employment litigation and counseling, municipal litigation, protecting commercial creditors’ rights in bankruptcy and eminent domain litigation. Evelyn (Eve) Rose Byrne was born on May 26 to Emily (Rivard) and her husband, Nick, who live in Chicago. On July 18, Matt O’Rourke ’06, ’14 JD married Alyssa Moya ’10 in Santa Fe. Their party included Jeff Smith, Son Nguyen ’03, and Joslyn (Moya) Nettey. They were joined by countless members of the ND family. In June, Lauren Barbir completed her MBA through Penn State’s Smeal College of Business EMBA Program. She was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma after finishing in the top 20 percent. Anne (Moretti) married Tony Langford ’08 on Aug. 23, 2014 at Canandaigua Lake in upstate New York. Anne and Tony live in Dallas with their golden retriever, Hank. Jennifer (Krumske) and Tim Paukovits welcomed their first baby, Aubrey Elaina, on Sept. 24, 2014. Alicia and Donny Tillotson welcomed a daughter, Cecelia Rose Tillotson, who was baptized by Father Larry Tensi ’99MDiv at St. Columban Parish in Cincinnati. Joe Meginnes was married to Amy Hummel on Feb. 21 in Chicago. Alumni at the wedding included father of the groom Brian Meginnes ’75, and usher Dave Baron ’06. The couple honeymooned in Australia and New Zealand and reside in Chicago. Fanon Dottin ’08 and Kristen Sell were married on May 16 in Durham NC. Kristen is in her fourth year of residency for cardiothoracic surgery at UNC-Chapel Hill, and Fanon is a chemical engineer at KBR. On June 13, Mike Sheehy ’94 and Erin Vranish were married in Washington DC, where they met while teaching at the same Catholic high school. The bridal party included Colleen (Key) Vranish ’06, Victoria Necroto ’05SMC, James Vranish ’05, Ed Miehle ’94 and best man Dom Morber ’94. Many other Domers were in attendance including alumni of ACE 1, ECHO 4, Zahm Hall, BP, and the marching band. Kristine Rosek and Rico Bertucci were married on May 9 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Several classmates were in the wedding party including bridesmaid Jenalle (Slosar) Brewer; groomsman Matt Schaefer; and ushers Doug Vranderic, Mike Eastment, Greg McAlpin and Kane Pithey. Carrie (English) and Adam Wuellner are proud to introduce their son Charles Thomas Wuellner, born June 21. Cam Fanslau, son of Nick Fanslau, and Colin King, son of Rick King, met in Philadelphia in June. They discussed bringing back Rally in the Alley when they arrive back on campus in 2037 with their dads. Charlie Wuellner regretfully didn’t receive the conference call dial-in code for said 2037 RITA summit discussion. Kari LeBlancq graduated with her MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School in May. She has since moved back to the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She will be reverse commuting to her new job in New Jersey, where she will be working in diabetes care marketing for Becton Dickinson, a medical device and technology company. Congrats to all. Here are some babies and jobs updates, along with some nuptials. David Mathues and his wife, Lauren, welcomed Jackson Walker Mathues to their family on June 3. I was hoping for Mick Jagger or Jerry Garcia for first and middle names, but Jackson Walker is pretty cool. David has been working as an assistant state’s attorney for Cook County for three years. Congratulations to the Mathues family. Jonathan Ng married Lauren Finley on March 14. Lauren is a graduate of Wake Forest Medical School, so as smart as Jonathan may be, there is some competition in the household. Congratulations to the wonderful couple. Jonathan is the sole in-house legal counsel for the social entrepreneurship NGO, Ashoka, innovators for the public. He has been teaching law and social entrepreneurship at Georgetown Law School, focusing on the new legal structures for social enterprises and impact investing. Finally, Chris McLemore and wife Jaime McLemore welcomed their son, August Lee, on July 14. August and his big sister Esme will keep Chris and Jaime’s hands full as the two lawyer parents continue to practice in London. Chris moved to the London office of Butler Snow LLP at the end of last year as special counsel. Hopefully as of this publication, August is sleeping through the night so Butler Snow can get some good productivity out of the second-time dad. Congratulations to the above group. 08 Updates for Autumn

Allison (Baranay) and Michael Duffy welcomed their first child, Ellen Marie, on April 3. They are looking forward to bringing her to campus for her first Notre Dame football game this fall. On June 18, Chris Doolin and his wife, Lauren, welcomed their first child, Emma Marie Doolin. Christopher James was born on May 7 to Chris Mueller ’08BBA, ’09MSA and Kathleen (Martinez) Mueller ’08 BBA, ’09MSA in Bryn Mawr PA. Christopher is already an Irish fan, and he’s very much looking forward to graduating with the Class of 2037. Christina (Holmstrom) and Andres Valenzuela welcomed a baby boy on Christmas Day 2014, named Isaac Ambrose. With three kids in tow, the family headed to California in June for the international DARPA Robotics Challenge, in which Andres’ lab at MIT finished a very respectable sixth place. Paul Spadafora came to cheer the team on. Andres looks forward to finishing his PhD this fall, when he will start a new job at The MathWorks in Natick MA. Christina made temporary promises as a lay Dominican in May and asks for your prayers as she continues her formation. Earlier this year, Amy Walker was selected to be a 2015 fellow for the UPMC Center for Health Security’s Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Initiative. This year’s class includes 28 fellows from the US, UK and Canada working in a variety of fields related to biosecurity. The fellowship includes a spring workshop in Washington DC and a fall workshop in London. Amy has lived in Washington DC since graduation and has worked at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) doing vaccines, biodefense and antimicrobial resistance policy since November 2013. Katie (Jenkins) Barbera graduated with honors from the U of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business MBA program in May. Stephen Barbera graduated in June from his pediatric residency at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. He will be staying on as the chief resident next year and then plans to pursue a neonatology fellowship. Julie (Kessler) and Nicholas Houpt welcomed their third baby and first daughter, Norah Marie, on February 26th. They’re convinced she did a high five with Father Ted at the gates of heaven as he passed that day. They are settling in Dallas and just bought their first home. 08JD Moving, Babies and Weddings

Kathryn Keen graduated from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and has moved to Tel Aviv to work for a startup, Preen.Me, as director of brand relations. Justin Marquez and his wife Eve had their second child, a son named Marcel, in November 2014. Marcel is getting ready to play for the Irish football team, having gained two pounds a month since his birth. Justin is a class action attorney in the Los Angeles area. He successfully briefed and argued an appeal in the Ninth Circuit, resulting in a published decision regarding federal jurisdiction over class actions. Rachel (Luberda) and Steve Copenhaver celebrated the birth of Lucas William on June 14 in Chicago. Rachel and Steve are thrilled to be spending time with their new baby this summer. Larry LaTarte and his family are leaving South Bend after 12 years. Larry’s wife, Jessica, accepted a position as director of the Institute on the Environment and Russell M. and Elizabeth M. Bennett Professor of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the U of Minnesota. Larry and Jessica’s daughter, Ada, born at the end of our 2L year, is now 8 and excited about starting third grade. Larry is still practicing at Faegre Baker Daniels in the Minneapolis office, where he will join classmates Nick Nelson, Lauren (Galgano) Barron and Andrew Murphy ’07JD. John Paul Oleksiuk and Magdalenda (Mango) were married on July 4 at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica CA. Classmates in attendance included Jonathan Lorenzen ’09JD and Adrian Cyhan ’91 and his wife, Shannon. John Paul and Magdalena live in Santa Monica, where John Paul is an associate at Cooley LLP. Whitney Young and Mary McLaughlin were bridesmaids. Jess finished her MDiv at Notre Dame and started full-time work in campus ministry at Saint Mary’s in August 2014. Corey (Collins) and David Heroux welcomed their first child, Jack Francis, on Dec. 20. His godfather is Kyle Collins ’12. Natalie (Leopold) Kapnick and her husband welcomed their first son, Theodore James, on Feb. 3. Mary DeAgostino-Kelly and Kevin Kelly celebrated the birth of their first child, Sydney Patricia, on March 27. The family will be moving from Nashville to Philadelphia, as Mary graduates from Vanderbilt with an MD/MPH and begins her residency in ob/gyn at Penn. Heidi and Mark Witte celebrated a special St. Patrick’s Day this year with the birth of their first child, Grace Juliette. Demonstrating an early love for all things Irish, Grace sleeps with her arms above her head, and has been affectionately nicknamed “Touchdown Gracie.” Morgan and Joseph Caudle welcomed their fourth boy, Philip, in July 2014. He was a sick little guy so was baptized and confirmed with all of his godparents, Elliott Argue ’11 and Father Joseph Jaskierny ’07 and sponsor Terry Cullen ’78. Shortly after his birth, the family moved back to South Bend and bought the famed Rockne house. Erin (Dowd) and Dave Kimbell welcomed their second son, Timothy Francis, on Dec. 26. Big brother William turned 2 a week later. Angela (Comana) Adams and her husband, Nate, welcomed a daughter, Bridget Vittoria, into their family on January. Suzie and Jonathon Alfano welcomed John Anthony on Oct. 11, 2014. The family is enjoying life in Chicago. Kyle and Tricia Ricketts are excited to announce the birth of Emily Frances in July 2014. Kyle works for Jones Day in Atlanta following graduation from Vanderbilt Law this spring. Kerry (Hutton) and Frances Tolan welcomed son Sean Patrick on April 14. Jessica defended her dissertation and received a PhD in biology on Oct. 10, 2014, and Chris defended his dissertation on June 1 for a PhD in biology. Paul and Sarah (Walter) Schlueter welcomed Sophia Marie, their second child, into the world on Nov. 1, 2014. Susan (Bigelow) and Drew Reynolds (both ’09 and ’11MEd) of Boston joyfully welcomed their daughter Nora Clare on Feb. 24. Nora was baptized at the Easter vigil and her godmother is Erin Ramsey-Tooher. Erin and Peter Tooher ’08 were expecting a little girl to join their family in late summer. They reside in Boston, where Erin graduated from Boston College with master’s degrees in social work and pastoral ministry, and Peter works in the non-profit practice at Cambridge Associates. Kate (Crecelius) and Conor Kelly ’08 welcomed their daughter Clare Cecilia on Feb. 4. They planned to move to Milwaukee this summer as Conor was starting a position as an assistant professor of theology at Marquette U. Nicole and Naz Ahmed welcomed their first son, Naseer Han, into the world on March 3. Naseer has been a non-stop eating machine ever since. His sleep-deprived parents love every minute they spend with him. Meagan Davis and husband Brian Broun welcomed their third child, Caroline Camille, in July 2014. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Pascagoula MS on May 17. Erin Heck received a master’s in supply chain management from Penn State in August 2014 and gave birth to her daughter, Olivia Grace Shambaugh, on March 4. Joyce (Almario) and Devin Fee welcomed John Patrick into the world on Feb. 3. Baby Jack is already hanging out with fellow future ND Class of 2037 Domer Grace Marie Weiland. Grace, the beautiful baby girl of Rachel (Donovan) and Kyle Weiland, was born on Nov. 30, 2014. Matt and Caitlin (Lambert) Lucia welcomed daughter Juliana Marie on July 2, 2014.
