Coach Weis to Visit Award-Winning Notre Dame Clubs

Head football coach Charlie Weis ’78 is giving ND clubs even more incentive to strive for Outstanding Club Award status; these clubs will be added to his list of speaking engagements each year. Weis also will schedule visits with Lennon Award-winning clubs.

Recent NCAA rule changes have limited the time college coaches can spend recruiting. As soon as the changes were announced, Weis met with Chuck Lennon ’61, ’62M.A., executive director of the ND Alumni Association to find out how he could spend that time with ND clubs across the country.

Weis will begin his visits with the 2006 Outstanding Club Award and Lennon Award winners. The Outstanding Club Award recognizes one club in each size classification that has excelled above all others in support of the University’s mission and in service to its local constituents. The Lennon Award recognizes clubs whose level of excellent performance in all areas of club activity over a period of years is such that the club would tend to dominate the Outstanding Club Award.

Weis will kick off his club visits at the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with a lunch on April 23. See a complete schedule of Weis visits.

Opportunities for Spiritual Renewal

The alumni association is offering two retreats on campus designed to renew the spirit and mind. “From Mourning to Morning: Working Through Death of a Spouse or Divorce” will take place April 11-13. Discussions will be led by facilitators and presenters who also have suffered a loss.

From June 15 to 20, the Cancer Retreat Workshop will provide an opportunity for patients and their support person or loved one to gather on campus for solidarity and strength.

To enroll in either workshop or to receive more information, contact the association’s senior director of spirituality and service, Kathleen M. Sullivan, at sullivan.6@nd.edu.
