Sports, Character and Culture
Next summer, Notre Dame’s Mendelson Center for Sport, Character, and Culture will offer a symposium on coaching through its newly established Institute for Coaching Education (ICE). The symposium will address such topics as building leadership, cultivating community and promoting positive motivation. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss some of the most challenging issues for coaches and to learn research-based practical strategies for more effective coaching. The Mendelson Center welcomes contact from alumni and friends of Notre Dame. Career Center Services
The Alumni Association, in partnership with The Career Center, has developed resources for alumni who are in the midst of a job search or are contemplating a career change. The services include resume and cover letter reviews, interviewing tips, advice on networking, job postings and more. Visit the Alumni link on The Career Center Web site (careercenter.nd.edu) to access the resources.
Kevin Monahan ’94, assistant director of the Career Center, is assisting alumni and local alumni clubs who are interested in beginning a job club through which alumni can share ideas, contacts and leads. Job club members also serve as a support network during the trying times of a job search. PLS Summer Symposium
The Program of Liberal Studies’ Summer Symposium offers alumni and friends of Notre Dame a return to intellectual stimulation on campus through week-long discussions of texts by such authors as Plato, Cicero, Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Darwin, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf and Martin Luther King Jr. Led by the program’s regular faculty, the classes are built around discussion rather than lecture. Notre Dame Merchandise
Proceeds of several items being offered for sale by The Alumni Association this fall will benefit alumni continuing education and community service programs.
The Notre Dame brass table lamp features the University seal in gold on a black parchment shade, a marble base and centerpiece, and three candelabra. The lamps can be personalized with name, graduation year and degree. Orders may be placed at 1-800-341-1835. “God, Country, Notre Dame” is the theme for the 2002 Notre Dame Christmas ornament, which features images of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Golden Dome. An 11-by-18-inch green “Go Irish” towel, which also supports SARG (Student-Alumni Relations Group), is sold at several campus locations on football weekends and can also be purchased through the Notre Dame Bookstore catalog center at 800-647-4641.

Florida Fling

On Campus Viewing
Fans without game tickets may view Irish football games on a large screen at the Eck Visitors Center auditorium this fall. On home football game Saturdays the Eck Center opens at 8 a.m. and closes upon finish of the game. Prior to kickoff, a 20-minute Notre Dame video, “A Deeper Sense of Tradition,” will be shown. Home football games also will continue to be shown in the north dome of the Joyce Center.
Regular features of the Eck Visitors Center include information and artifacts, a lighted aerial map of the current campus, six historic aerial views and interactive kiosks for a virtual tour of campus. Original art on display includes six works by the late world-renowned artist and ND professor Ivan Mestrovic, as well as “The Visitation” and “Brother Andrè” by the late Notre Dame sculptor Rev. Anthony Lauck, CSC, ’42.
