Fresh Writing

Winners of the McPartlin Award for Outstanding Writing by a First Year Student have stretched their creative muscles with topics from Plato to popular culture to alcohol use on campus. Those freshmen examples of the write stuff are showcased in Fresh Writing, ( www.nd.edu/~frswrite ) a web-based magazine of the First-Year Composition Program at ND. As an added plus, the webzine also features winners of the Snite Museum Essay Competition for First Year Students.

Essays by previous winners are available in the online archives of previous magazines, notes editor Robin MacRorie of the University Writing Program.

Humanist Art Review

Write a letter to Poliphilo if the mood strikes you. Or see what’s showing in the latest exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Or consider the ideas by architect Thomas Rajkovich’83 on “The City We Were Meant to Inhabit.”

David Mayernik ‘83 is one of the creators of the Humanist Art Review – An Online Journal ( www.humanistart.com ). It’s intended he says, “as a forum for ideas about the current renaissance of classical art and architecture.” Rotating displays of fine art and architectural details make this a feast for both the mind and eyes.
