If you build it, they will come and skate and cheer and play. The Compton Family Center ice facilities, providing two ice sheets and room for 5,000 fans, has been growing at the southern edge of campus since summer 2010. Expected to be finished for the 2011-12 hockey season, the 203,000-square-foot arena will house Notre Dame’s hockey team, which reached the NCAA national championship game in 2008, as well as programming for youth hockey, figure skating, broomball and other activities.
