The 2004 Notre Dame Advent Calendar is illustrated with a snow-covered view of the Basilica and Main Building, taken from Father Hesburgh's library office. Behind a window for each day of Advent, a campus image is shown opposite text about the meaning of Christmas. The calendar was produced for the second year by Kevin Sandberg, CSC, '88, '04M.Div., with his sister, Eileen Trimble '89. Proceeds benefit the Congregation of Holy Cross. Travel with Notre Dame Faculty
Two upcoming Alumni Travel programs will feature the expertise of Notre Dame faculty who have first-hand knowledge of their destination.
Alumni and friends of the University can accompany Rev. Bill Miscamble, CSC, '77M.A., '80Ph.D., '87M.Div., associate professor of history, to his homeland of Australia, February 23-March 10, 2005. The itinerary also includes a comprehensive exploration of New Zealand.
Rev. Ernest Bartell, CSC, '53 will host a trip to South America, March 14-27, 2005. Bartell is faculty fellow and executive director emeritus of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies, where he helped establish and strengthen networks of scholars and policy experts in Chile and Argentina during those countries' transition to democracy. The trip will include visits to Buenos Aires and Santiago, as well as the Andean Lake region that joins Chile and Argentina.

President's Assistant to Host Egypt Trip
Chandra Johnson '96, assistant to the University president, will host alumni and friends of Notre Dame who join the expedition to Egypt with the Alumni Travel program, March 1-12, 2005. Johnson has been a member of the president's office since 1998 and also serves as assistant director of cross-cultural ministry for Campus Ministry.

The Basilica at Christmas
The 2004 Christmas ornament is a miniature of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Designated by Pope John Paul II as a "minor basilica" in 1992, Sacred Heart has served as the mother church for the Congregation of Holy Cross since 1871.
The ornament can be ordered through the bookstore catalog center at 800-647-4641 or by visiting alumni.nd.edu/ornaments.html. Proceeds benefit the Alumni Association's community service and continuing education programs.
Televised Basilica Mass
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart 10 a.m. Sunday Mass is televised every week on the Hallmark Channel at 11 a.m., Eastern time, year round. Check local listings for times in other areas.
Classes to Join Alumni Senate
On April 21-23, 2005, class officers will take part in the Alumni Association's annual Alumni Senate, traditionally planned for club officers. Class representatives will meet with Alumni Association and _Notre Dame Magazine_ staff, exchange ideas with each other, interact with alumni club representatives and be present for general sessions featuring University officers, alumni board directors and Irish coaches.

CASE Honors Pumpkins, Career Programs
The Notre Dame Alumni Association has been honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for program excellence in two areas: fund raising, and alumni career and placement services.
The Alumni Association's Gridiron Goblins pumpkin-template program received CASE's highest honor, the Grand Gold Award, as an innovative fund-raising effort. The program and templates, designed by Sean O'Brien '86, director of Alumni Community Service, have generated nearly $40,000 in support for community service programs.
Alumni Career and Placement Services was recognized with the CASE Gold Award for its effective use of technology to provide job placement and career networking opportunities for Notre Dame alumni.
To Better Serve
The Alumni Association's recent strategic planning process by McKinsey and Company, and survey responses from 7,666 alumni, will be summarized in a mailing to alumni this fall. Details also will be posted at www.alumni.nd.edu. The survey was e-mailed in June to subscribers of "NDA Today," a monthly electronic newsletter.
