The fifth in the historical mystery series set in France and England in the late 1700s follows Anne Cartier and her husband, Paul de Saint-Martin, as they investigate unsettling events in Nice.
The duo has traveled from Paris to Nice, where Anne hopes the climate and her husband’s vacation from work will help ease his chronic cough. Instead, he is drawn into a search for an escaped convicted, who was jailed 20 years earlier for a murder Paul begins to believe he may not committed. Anne becomes involved when a murder takes place on the estate where the couple is vacationing, and it appears the two cases may be related.
