Photo of the Week: The Rockne Shift

Author: Barbara Johnston

A large white house that once belonged to Knute Rockne, hoisted on heavy machinery, moves down a street to a new location with a small crowd of people observing on a gray, rainy day. Barbara Johnston

A house where Knute Rockne once lived on St. Vincent Street just south of the Notre Dame campus near what’s now Eddy Street Commons was moved this week to an empty lot on Foster Street about half a mile west. Condominiums will be developed on the former site and the Rockne house, where the coach lived from about 1922 to 1929, will be renovated and sold as a single-family home.

Photo of the Week highlights images from campus and from the Notre Dame family around the world. Have a snapshot you think we should see? Email jkelly30@nd.edu to be considered for publication.
