Pete Disser is the chief financial officer of NIPSCO (the gas utility for anyone who lived off campus in South Bend) and got to ring the closing bell at the NYSE as part of the company’s 100th anniversary. Pete lives in Long Beach IN and has two boys, Jack, 17, and Joe, 13. Bill “Lambo” Lambert lives in the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York in a town called Cazenovia with his family, including three kids ages 12, 10, and 8. Bill works for Tom James Co., the world’s largest custom clothing business. Bill explains that they have an international group of 500 tailors who go to clients in their homes and offices to tailor custom suits, shirts, sport coats, and ties. Bill runs an office in Boston and in New York. Tony Lang is a reader in the School of International Relations and director at the Centre for Global Constitutionalism at the U of St. Andrews in Scotland. Tony’s wife (Nicki Wilkins) homeschools their kids: Teddy, 13, Beatrice, 11, Henry, 7, and Vivienne, 1. Jon Giometti is back in Hickory NC, working as an emergency physician after spending a year working in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, with wife Becca, daughter Alaina, and sons Eric and Anthony. Jon says he had a great time tailgating at the Stanford game with Jim and JoAnne Welsh ’88 on his first trip back to ND after returning from New Zealand. Anne and Lance Madson and twin boys, aged 13, traveled to suburban New York over the Christmas holiday and were able to meet up with Tim Caddo ’89 and wife Candy at Tim’s son’s hockey game in New Jersey. The big excitement was that his boys and Tim’s three boys are going to ND Hockey camp this summer. Lance also recently caught up with my teammate and assistant coach Andy Slaggert ’89 at the ND vs. Minnesota Gophers hockey game in January. Lance is a partner with Boulay, Heutmaker, Zibell & Co., a CPA firm in Minneapolis. Doug Pritchett was recently board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and practiced at Johnson, Trent, West & Taylor in Houston, where he is their appellate counsel. Tom Crehan is the voice of HGTV’s new series, “You Live in What?” about people who have turned unusual, non-traditional spaces into homes. Tom says it is lots of fun to work on and they feature some really amazing houses. Tom wrote a few of the episodes as well as a TV pilot about a housewife turned bookie. It’s in development now, but there’s no concrete deal in place yet. Tom is living in Hermosa Beach CA, three blocks from the water, still carrying the ND banner in Southern California and still serving on the board of the ND Club of Los Angeles. Tom has been to four of the last five World Cups and is making plans to hit Brazil in 2014. Greg Garczynski will return to campus for the re-established Alumni Water Polo Tournament March 22-24. Mike Manning isn’t going to be able to make it out from Boston but we’ll still have a pretty good contingent of late 1980s and early 1990s alumni. Sadly, Dean Brown passed away Nov. 29. His obituary noted that Dean was faithful to God, his family, and his friends. Dean was born in Canton OH and graduated from McKinley high school. During his time in South Bend, he played on the 1988 national championship squad. After graduating from Notre Dame, Dean was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and spent time with the San Diego Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs. After his football career, he was a manager for 11 years at Fannie Mae in Chicago. In 2003, he was hired as the Dean of Friendship Public Charter School, the largest such school in inner city Washington DC. In August 2012, Dean returned home to Ohio after being selected as principal of Nexus Academy in Cleveland. I received a beautiful Christmas card from Christine (Ireland) McKee with her family on the beach. It was a welcome sight to see their bright, smiling faces in the middle of an Iowa winter. Christine and Charles live in Rockville MD, and their children Kayleigh and Ryan are miniature versions of their parents. Bernie Lau also sent a holiday photo with handsome sons William and Charlie. Cherokee Nation Attorney General Todd Hembree is involved in a case going to the US Supreme Court. In January, the Supreme Court granted certioari on a case involving the adoption of a Cherokee child to a non-Indian household. South Florida was crowded with alumni hoping to witness a national championship victory in person. I ventured down south with my father, Jerry Hayes ’58, my brother, and a crew of ND football die-hard girlfriends who made the weekend one I will never forget.Yolanda Carroll, Andria Settles, Kristi (Busack) Paolina, Roni Garza, Katie McMahon, Julie Baron, and I enjoyed every waking moment and look forward to next season. Seemed wherever we went, we ran into classmates: Sarah (Williams) and Lindsay Knapp, Justin Hall and Martin Scruggs, and Raghib Ismail ’94 were spotted at various ’88 championship team reunions. John Thiede SJ stopped by the launch of the Irish Player Charities event founded by Rick Mirer ’93. It was a fun afternoon where many of the players from the ’90s and ’00s came to show their support. Gretchen Ariz stopped by a fun Sunday brunch at Nikki Beach coordinated by party guru Tad Eckert ’94. Tad promises to bring the same fun to Dallas for the October game vs. Arizona State. Gretchen told me that after 17 years in Seattle she could not pass up the opportunity to move to Anchorage AK, for a great job as a refractive surgery optometrist at Elmendorf Air Force Base. Mike Seamon, director of ND Game Day Operations, was spotted at official events during the week. Kate (Clark) Kennedy stopped by the pregame tennis team tailgate. Jamie Reidy and Mike Pearl were seated a row behind me in the stadium. I had hoped to run into volleyballers Chris (Choquette) Ford and Katie (Kavanaugh) Clark, learned Meg Shuff was near me in the stadium, and time ran out before I could see Rachel (Flanagan) Creighton, Maureen (Nelligan) and Tom Fischer, Carol Ruff, Susan Steck, Tyler (Musleh) Minton, and globe trotter Kristen (Gafvert) Hammerschmitt. All-American classmate Mirko Jurkovic lost his battle with cancer on Jan. 9. 92JD Greetings from the Heartland

I heard from John Machado and he says life is good in DC. John keeps busy with his criminal practice, doing a wide variety of criminal trials and appeals in local and federal courts in DC and Virginia. Mid-October, John had the opportunity to argue before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on a criminal appeal. John also was part of a 13 co-defendant matter last spring, which was the largest co-defendant trial ever in the US District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia. John’s family is doing well. He and Nancy have two children, Katie, 10, and Nicholas, 8. John and his family are actively involved in their church, where John plays keyboard for the praise band and for the children’s choir. Armed with his MFA in acting from the U of Minnesota/Guthrie Theatre Program, Joe Wilson moved in 2000 to NYC, where he has been working on and off Broadway and in regional theaters around the country. Joe is a member of the Acting Company at Trinity Rep in Providence RI, where he is in his eighth season. Congrats to Peter Bevacqua, who was named CEO of the PGA of America, becoming the third CEO of the world’s largest sports organization. Peter previously served as chief business officer for the United States Golf Association and more recently led the golf division of CAA Sports. Peter joined the USGA in 2000 as in-house counsel, and from the fall of 2003 through June 2007, he was managing director of the US Open Championship. In July 2007, he was named the USGA’s first-ever chief business officer, and in that role, he was responsible for all revenue and commercial activities, including major sponsorship agreements. In 2011, he left the USGA to join CAA Sports, a division of Creative Artists Agency. Peter earned a law degree from Georgetown U and worked for the firm of Davis Polk before joining the USGA. Dominic Carreira was selected as one of Fort Lauderdale’s 40 under 40. Dom is an orthopedic surgeon and member of Broward Health Physician Group. He is a team physician for the Miami Marlins and Miami Dolphins, former assistant team physician to the US Men’s and Women’s Ski Teams, the Colorado Rockies, and the Denver Broncos. Dom, wife Alicia, and their three children (Gabriella, Juliana, and Dominic) reside in Fort Lauderdale. Ryann and Chris Monahan are proud to announce the arrival in January of twins Thomas Francis and William Christopher. Big brother Donnie is elated to have fellow boys in the house. Congratulations to new parents Robin and Chris DuMont. They were very excited to welcome Austin James DuMont to their family in November, just in time to catch the last part of the amazing football season. Baby Austin watched all the games with his dad and sported his first ND jersey. Colleen (McGinn) and Brian O’Neill are living in New York and raising their daughter and two sons and have a new goldendoodle puppy. Congratulations to Phil Brach, who is assistant dean for the School of Business and Economics at The Catholic U of America in Washington DC. The school was featured in the Wall Street Journal in January as the board of trustees approved the opening of this brand new school. George Chan is now chief of staff to the CEO at DeVry. He and wife Christine reside in Arlington Heights IL with their boys, Victor, 8, and Anthony, 6. Patrick McDonnell joined Pacific Investment Management Company’s (PIMCO) New York office last August and is SVP, equity specialist. Sean Gill wrote a chapter in a textbook for the new CFA Claritas designation. Prof. Frank Reilly ’57 would be proud of our financial classmates. That was one of my favorite classes, even though I work in HR. The football season brought many of us together and reminded us of the 1993 season. There were so many Facebook posts during and after the games. Gabrielle and Sean Gill were lucky enough to head to Ireland to watch the Navy game. A few weeks later, they met up with Sally and Mike Morgan at the Michigan game. Sean and Mike went to the Ryder Cup practice round at Medinah just outside of Chicago. George Chan met up with Greg Ramsby, Geoff Golub, and Tony DeSimone at the Miami game at Soldier Field. Greg hosted them at a skybox, so it was quite the treat. A few of us were lucky enough to win tickets to the National Championship Game in the Alumni Lottery. Sean Gill flew to Miami, where he again ran into Mike Morgan and Jeff Armstrong. Mike McGinn, who lives in South Florida, was lucky to get last-minute tickets to the game. They all enjoyed the game despite the loss. Be happy. Be well. Be blessed. Mike Sirtori, who is with Intel in the Portland OR area, where he lives with wife Karin Guenther and their two children, sent the great news that Michael Willson was appointed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry as justice of the 11th Court of Appeals for a term not to expire until his successor is duly qualified. Willson is a shareholder and vice president of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe and Dawson PC. At the time of this writing, Elizabeth “Liz” (Baird) Hurley, a magistrate for the St. Joseph Circuit Court, was named a finalist for a vacancy on the St. Joseph Superior Court in South Bend. Congratulations are also in order for Julie McEvoy, who left a partnership at Jones Day in Washington DC in May to accept an appointment at the Department of Justice. Her official title is deputy associate attorney general, and her day-to-day responsibilities include oversight of the Antitrust Division; coordinating the activities of the President’s Task Force on Puerto Rico; and working on a variety of legislative, policy, and social justice projects in and outside the DOJ. And congrats to Brian Sagrestano and wife Christine on the birth of their fourth child, Luke Samuel, joining his sisters Katherine, Sophiam and Holly, ages 15, 13, and 11. Brian also reports, “After many years of competing with my barbershop chorus, we won the right to compete at the International Convention and Contest of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Portland OR and placed 25th in the world. In September, we won the right to return to the next international contest in Toronto in July 2013. In June, I published my first book with co-author Robert E. Wahlers, The Philanthropic Planning Companion: The Fundraisers’ and Professional Advisors’ Guide to Charitable Gift Planning (Wiley 2012). It has been very well received, so much so that we have been signed by another publisher for two more books. 96 Highlights at BCS

It was great to see so many of you in South Beach. Some of the highlights included a 300-person party organized by Chris Cooper at SLS Hotel, a Flo Rida concert on the beach, 10-foot “Tron” robots at Club LIV, and a “bang-up” tailgate organized by Mary O’Connor, Larissa Herczeg, and Joe VanHecke. Kristi (Klukowski) Kennedy, the president of the ND Club of Indianapolis, got married in August to Purdue grad Sean Kennedy. They even wrote into their vows to root for each other’s school, except for when they play each other. Kelly Cornelis ’96 married Ryan Smolek ’03 on Nov. 5, 2011, at St. Josaphat Parish in Chicago. There were more than 40 ND grads in attendance from seven different classes. Several Class of ’96ers joined in the fun and showed the younger alums a thing or two on the dance floor, including Jonathan Patrick, Dennis* and Megan (Derbis) McCarthy, Ryan Plutnicki, Theresa (Richards) Corona, and Vaishali Agarwala. Kelly and Ryan live on the north side of Chicago with their 3-year-old lab Murphy. Kelly is a partner at LaSalle Capital Group and Ryan is strategic projects manager at MillerCoors. Dino Cusumano and Kathryn Goyer were married on Aug. 4 in the Adirondack State Park in upstate New York. The ceremony was held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Long Lake, followed by a reception at The Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid. Look for him in the credits of movies such as Brave. Mike also writes screenplays on the side and was recently a finalist at the Austin Film Festival. He had one of the top five scripts out of 2,000 comedy scripts. Keith Ziolowkowski and wife Katie welcomed Tatum June Ziolkowski into the world on Nov. 20. Kate Crisham and Brian Werner, and big sister Ellen, welcomed Charles Neal (Charlie) on Nov.17. Kate and Brian and their family live in Seattle. They are assistant US attorneys prosecuting violent gun and sex trafficking crimes. Alison and Brian McCaffrey welcomed son Devlin Tate McCaffrey on Nov. 15. Brian is a facility engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island. Kara Spak lives in Chicago with her husband and 1-year-old. She works at the Chicago Sun Times and occasionally reports on the Fighting Irish. Theresa (Hennessey) Barcy and husband Steve had their second child, Michael Patrick Barcy, on Sept. 27. Several classmates were spotted in Miami for the National Championship Game. Anne Castonguay Lewis ’96 and Thomas Lewis were on scene, and seeing the Irish in a BCS bowl game means Thomas can now cross that one off his bucket list. He spent lots of quality time with Mike Feeney, Drew Flood, Mike Reichart, and Todd Dauphinais as the guys shared laughs and reminisced about MBA days. When not at the national championship, Thomas and Anne live in New Hampshire with children Katie, Maggie, and Danny. Rob Kowalewski was also in Florida for the BCS showdown, and he enjoyed tailgating with Holly and Robert McLaughlin and Tiffany Greco. Rob gave credit to the friendly Alabama fans and mentioned the whole experience, “really made me miss Stuart Pegg; he would have loved being there and tailgating with us.” Rob and Julie continue working hard with their restaurant, and they make their home in Grand Rapids with children Robby, Will, and Jillian. The young ones are all up on skis now, and the whole family loves skiing together. In news north of Miami, Joe O’Hannigan continues in his role as senior associate director of Executive Programs at Notre Dame. June marks his fifth year back on campus. The executive education team moves out of COBA this spring and into the brand new Stayer Center right next door. It offers state-of-the art facilities for corporate clients and the EMBA program. Joe is even offering personal tours to MBA ’96ers whenever we’re in town. Last year, he traveled to Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Chile, Brazil, and Guatemala in order to connect with passionate Domers around the world. Joe’s wife, Mary, is an elementary school teacher in Granger, and their eldest son, Paul, just transferred into Loyola Marymount U’s Film and Television School in Los Angeles. Joey is a junior in high school, Molly is in eighth grade, and Mark is in fifth grade. Joanne Rinaldo was elected a 2013 Junior Chamber International vice president in Taipei, Tawain. She will get to travel to her assigned countries and attend international events on behalf of JCI, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive change in member communities. Brian Clougherty enjoyed a long-overdue visit with Matt Lovio on a trip to New York this fall. Jewan Bae has moved to a new position at W. R. Grace & Co. as director of strategic planning and process. He caught up with Mary Maloney for dinner while she was in the Washington DC area in January. Patrick Lynch has a new role at Intel managing all of the interactions between Intel and Microsoft. It’s a big change after 17 years in product and strategic marketing roles with Intel, but the work is interesting and challenging. Meighan and Frank Harmon continue to live in Chicago, just a few blocks from Wrigley Field. Their daughter Lily is a second grader at Sacred Heart. In 2012, Meighan was elevated to capital partner at Chicago’s largest family law firm (43 lawyers), Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP. She is very grateful that family law is a recession-proof practice area. The State Bar of Michigan has named Jeffrey Kopp the recipient of its 2012 Unsung Hero Award. This award recognizes members who have maintained high standards for their practice while benefiting others through their legal knowledge and experience. Jeff is a partner in the litigation department in Foley & Lardner’s Detroit office, where he serves as the office pro bono coordinating partner, as well as the office recruiting partner. In addition, Jeff is a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserves in the JAG Corps. Jeff also serves as a director on the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Board, and serves as a volunteer lawyer for Project Salute, a pro bono program that offers pro bono legal advice to veterans on their disability and pension benefits claims. In addition, Jeff regularly handles pro bono matters for the Detroit Legal Services Clinic and Legal Aid and Defenders Association. Gary Connelly, Scott Clements, Scott Hardy, and Greg Shaffer look forward to spring training for the Pittsburgh Pirates. I was not one of the lucky few who made the trip down south, but my husband Rob Murray was able to steal a couple of days to cheer on the Irish in Miami and meet up with classmates. Cristina, a real estate attorney in Ballard Spahr’s Salt Lake City office, will become president of the organization in 2014. She has been a member of CREW Utah since 2010 and has been a member of its board for two years. She served as membership chair in 2011 and is currently secretary. On Sept. 15, Brendan Tobin (aka Stu) married Katie O’Kane at The Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. They live in NYC, where Brendan works for Apax Partners and Katie works for SS+K. Kate and Chris Slick welcomed their first child, Matthew Christopher, on Jan. 17. Kate and Chris met at a Starbucks in January 2009, and tied the knot in July 2010. Chris practices insurance coverage litigation and appeals with Tribler, Orpett & Meyer PC, in Chicago.
Peter Witty is now the division counsel for Abbott’s Molecular Division. The business manufactures tests that help identify cancer, infectious disease, and genetic characteristics. He and his family reside in Northbrook IL. In February, Ray Tittmann and Peter Loughlin spoke about subrogation at an ABA conference in Scottsdale AZ. Thaddeus Wojcik has his own boutique practice focusing on start-up and existing entrepreneurial ventures, with special emphasis on social impact and technology. Thaddeus has one office in Tribeca NY and one in Santa Monica CA. Thaddeus is also outside general counsel to the Orthodox Church in America, as well as a co-owner and officer of givkwik.com, a social impact business that facilitates “impulse philanthropy.” In his free time, he and girlfriend Jacqueline travel coast-to-coast, coach triathletes, and raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Stephanie (Skrede) and George Hopkins ’96JD live in Viroqua WI, with their two boys, and practice law together at Hopkins & Hopkins LLP. Our 15th Reunion is right around the corner. The dates are May 30 to June 2 and registration is available online. Our class dorm for the weekend is Zahm Hall and our Class Mass will be held on Friday evening. We are looking for volunteers to help out with the Class Mass. Former softball player Kelly (Rowe) Macan and husband Rob celebrated the birth of their twins, Robert and Kayla, on July 24. They live in East Brunswick NJ and cheer on the Irish every Saturday. Dan Maloney and a ton of the guys from Sorin Hall hosted their first ever “Sailgate” on Lake Michigan prior to the ND-Miami game at Soldier Field last fall. They rented a 120-passenger yacht at Burnham Harbor and had a wonderful time before the game. About 90 people attended the event, including Dan and wife Claire, *Eric*and Mary (Gillard) Anderson, Jean Kenol, Nes Weigand, D.J. It is hard to believe 15 years have passed since we earned our degrees but, alas, it is true. This past January, Catherine Manhes and Sabine (Taras) Thompson reminisced about winters in South Bend while visiting snow-covered Paris. Despite the outcome of the BCS National Championship, there was a strong showing from alumni, and our class was no exception. I was able to visit with Mark Lawrence, amongst many others. Mark switched jobs this past October and now works for Apollo in their opportunistic debt group. Kevin O’Connor was there with Dan Ferry and Jay Conroy. Others in attendance included Marita Hoffman, Jack Huber, and Justin Johnson. Sarah Craig transitioned from program manager of Notre Dame’s Haiti Program to communications specialist at the Eck Institute for Global Health last spring. Be sure to say hello when you are on campus and visit her Facebook page. Sarah and Lindsay Knapp have been in a suburb of Minneapolis for 10 years. Lindsay is a bond salesman for Robert W. Baird. Their daughters, McKenna and Riley, are active in many sports, including basketball and lacrosse, while son Thomas is an avid hockey player. Krista Mayor and her husband welcomed their third child, Vivienne Irene Ruth Mayor, last spring. *Jack Huber is a managing director in the investment banking and restructuring practice at Navigant Capital Advisors in Chicago. Jack and wife Jennifer have three young sons. He is currently serving as the liquidating trustee of SageCrest, a $750 million hedge fund originally headquartered in Greenwich CT. I recently left my role as vice president of operations to build a business development organization from the ground floor. 98JD Near Misses, but Plenty to Celebrate

Katie (McAvoy) Gillespie and husband Michael welcomed Owen Michael into the world last June. After having open heart surgery in November, Owen is, in the words of his proud mom, “doing absolutely awesome.” Julie Carver reports she is the associate superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Sacramento. Julie has two regions, the North State (three schools) and South State (seven schools). Rich Bell was recently promoted to senior staff counsel of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Mark Telloyan has been appointed deputy county attorney in St. Joseph County IN. Julie (Seaman) Lake is working in the patent group at Merck. She and husband Adam have three daughters, Gabrielle and twins Katherine and Sarah. Julie and family were displaced from their home when Superstorm Sandy sent their neighbor’s oak tree crashing into their family room. But for a minor injury to Gabrielle, all were thankfully unharmed. They hoped to be back in their home by March. Mark Mueller works for Intel in Chandler AZ. He practices environmental, health, and safety law worldwide, and he often travels to Asia and Europe. Kristen Polovoy was selected by Gov. Chris Christie’s office to serve on the New Jersey Multiple Sclerosis Task Force. The task force will focus on issues impacting the productivity and independence of individuals with MS, and it will also review issues impacting emotional, social, and vocational challenges of persons with MS. The 14-member task force includes state health officials, representatives of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and individuals living with MS. Did you see Ariel Rodriguez on the sidelines of the National Championship Game? He was working the game as part of the officiating crew. Also reported in attendance, albeit in unofficial capacities, were Jay Derbis, Dave Walters, Kevin Patrick, Bob Elmer, and Too Keller. Keith is a senior strategist at Deutsche Bank and Colleen opened her own legal practice focusing on special education law. Colleen (Kinnon) and Chris Huck ’00JD announce the birth on Aug. 20 of their fourth child, Natalie Violet. She was welcomed by big brother Zack, 6, and sisters Abby, 4, and Madeline, 2. They enjoy living in Bainbridge Island WA. Chris is a partner with Seattle firm Kelley Goldfarb Gill Huck and Roth. Erin (Corbett) and Shane Luzadder welcomed their second daughter, Riley Quinn, on July 16. Stephanie and Ryan Stecz are excited to report that Pierce Jackson arrived on Sept. 21, and he is doing great. Big brother Tommy, big sister Reagan, and big brother Knox are excited about the newest member of their family. Chris and Anne (Iacobucci) Witti welcomed their second daughter, Abigail Claire, on July 12. Big sister Charlotte has been a great big sister. Jay and Megan (Stollenwerk) Corsi had a baby girl, Simone Violet, on May 29. Congratulations to Katie Lewis, who received her PhD and MA in education from the U of California, Berkeley, after a long, hard-working journey. Her dissertation was titled, “Toward a Reconceptualization of Mathematical Learning Disabilities: A Focus on Difference Rather than Deficit.” Lewis’ research aims to understand and address the unique difficulties experienced by students with math learning disabilities. Lewis was appointed as an assistant professor at the U of Washington College of Education, where she began teaching in January. She will be educating master’s students in the high incidence disability program as well as teaching assessment and math methods courses.
