90 Making Wine, Playing Sports
Mark Wiltberger launched an online store for his new wine label, Mark T. Wiltberger Cellars. Check out marktwiltbergercellars.com. Mark makes his home and started his own winery on a beautiful vineyard farm property overlooking Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York state. Mark focuses on careful production of small batches of wines, drawing on his variety of experiences and using modern and traditional techniques. His aim is to make elegant wines from grape varietals that grow well in the cool climate of the Finger Lakes. Michael Sheedy traveled to Annapolis MD for a meeting and vacation with family. As Mike and his son toured the Naval Academy and reached Captain’s Row, they noticed the first house belonged to Capt. Nick Merry ’91. Mike left a card in the mailbox and the two former Stanford residents met up and had a wonderful time together. Mike is executive director of the Florida Catholic Conference. Laura (Richelsen) and Dave Hemler are raising three children in the Minneapolis suburbs. Their eldest is a sophomore at Princeton U and they have a senior and a freshman at Providence Academy. Dave has started a healthcare software company and Laura dabbles in GOP politics. Chris Travers is starting a sports academy in the Dominican Republic appropriately named, Juego Como Campeon (Play Like a Champion). If anyone has old basketballs, footballs, tennis racquets or other warm weather sporting goods for golf, soccer or volleyball collecting dust, Chris can give them a good home. 90JD Greetings Again
As I write this, our team has just secured another victory and the commentators are saying, “ND is back.” All is good. This year is extra exciting in the Gregory house, as our son is a freshman and living in Alumni Hall. I was back for the Miami Ohio game and had a great time catching up with Christine and Tom Falkenberg, Nancy and Jim Stricker, Laura and John Watkins, Nancy and Pat Sexton, Ro Saghal and his family, Patty Kelly and Patrick Johnson. Thanks to Tuck and Christine for letting us crash your tailgate. As always, you know how to throw a party. As some of you may have heard, the Law School is hosting homecoming each year on a game weekend. The inaugural tailgate on the Law School quad before the game was a huge success with over 300 alums in attendance, reconnecting over craft beers, wine and a buffet. Let’s meet next year at the Law School Homecoming which is scheduled for Sept. 15, the Vanderbilt game. If you plan to be on campus any other weekends, please let me know. JP McDade lives in Fort Worth TX and is the founder and president of Already Design Co., a specialty headwear design and manufacturing company based in the Dallas. Check it out at alreadydesign.com. JP has been married to Joan for 30 years. They have two children: Mackenzie, 25, a 2014 graduate of the USC Film School and JJ, 23, a 2016 graduate of the USC International Business School. JP and Joan started a non-profit soccer club organization for girls in 2000. In their free time they like to be in the great outdoors, and enjoy spending time in Colorado. JP still sees Andy McNeill and Anne Heidt King from time to time. On a sad note, Joan Bugucki Storms passed away peacefully after a brief but devastating illness. Several members of the class made it back to South Bend for a minireunion at the Miami Ohio game on Sept. 29. Conor Meyers brought his entire family for the game: Conor, wife Bridget, and sons Zack, Carrick, Patrick, and daughter Makenna. It was the first time Conor had been back on campus since 2006. Conor is the principal, vice president and general counsel of Axis Construction Consulting. Though he lives in Boise ID. His work requires a great deal of travel resolving complex construction defect disputes and claims. Ginny Mikita and her husband, Bob Kruse, brought daughter, Greta, and her boyfriend to the game. Ginny and Bob have the Mikita Kruse Law Center in Rockford MI. Ginny and Bob primarily represent neglected, abused, and refugee children. Greta is a high school senior and is in the process of deciding where to attend college. Mary (Pedulla) and John Lake also were at the game with son William. Mary has a civil law practice in LaPorte IN. In September, John joined the Indiana Attorney General’s Office as a deputy attorney general. He lives in Indianapolis during the week and returns to LaPorte on the weekends. I also heard from Mike Maher, who heads up the global financial crimes legal advisory team for HSBC. He finds the work exciting and travels around the world. Mike’s wife retired from teaching math and their three children are all grown. Mike’s eldest son is in the Navy and teaches at the Naval Academy. His younger son works in the logistics field, and his daughter lives in San Diego with her Marine husband. Mike and his bride are proud grandparents to “two beautiful granddaughters.” Mike Vild was named the director of fraud and consumer protection division at the Delaware Department of Justice in September. He previously worked as the acting general manager and general counsel at the Saratoga Gaming & Raceway. I would love to hear from you, so drop me a line. When seeking scoop for this article I heard from many classmates where they watched this year’s solar eclipse. Alumni Dawgs Scott “Scooter” Fraser, Mark Jordan and Mark Ross connected in Atlanta for eclipse viewing on August 21st. You could say Scott was more than over the moon for this eclipse ... he was football game kind-of-stressed during the countdown as weather was not favorable for a clear view. Scott’s been chasing eclipses around the globe since graduation and admits with a young family this was the toughest one to plan. Fortunately for him, the clouds parted two minutes before totality.The Jordan family sported homemade eclipse T-shirts for the occasion. Patrick Klein with family to Hopkinsville, KY for the point of maximum totality. The Dawgs also met up with Kyle Cowdrick (’15) for lake time fun right on the eclipse line in NC. Cecilia Brown journeyed to the desert near Fossil OR to watch the two minutes of totality. Tasha Alexander saw it in Casper WY. Kirsten (Brown) Greco watched from home in Lafayette (Boulder), CO. Michelle (Cano) Marlowe was with her parents in Franklin NC helping her dad look through the eclipse glasses. Georgie Brophy watched it from her front lawn in Bethesda MD splitting her eclipse glasses with Bob Steeger. Brian Amer saw it from Corvallis OR while a few hours east, Tim Probst watched it on the line of totality near Madras OR with his parents, Jane and Bert Probst (’53), wife Tahira (Aslam) Probst (’93) and four kids. Angie (Buckingham) Melton watched with her family on the beach in NC with 97% of totality. Laura (Garcia) Pendergast caught 92% totality in Seattle using the old-fashioned paper and pin hole trick while Mike Potter watched it from South Bend at the loading dock at work using welder’s glasses. In non-eclipse news: Catherine Kane works for the World Health Organization in Geneva. She is also working on a Master's in Contemporary Diplomacy from the University of Malta. Steve Hanson sends word that he and Laura Gritz in the class of 2018 residence course at the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA. They are working towards masters degrees in strategic studies. Laura is in the State Dept and Steve is an Army Colonel heading out to Fort Lewis, WA next summer to be the comptroller for all combat forces stationed there. Patrick Murphy is a senior engineer for Carbon Lighthouse in San Fran. Nick Costello is doing mission work in Africa. Dave Rapp shared on FB a fun photo with Sean Astin taken while Sean was a voice cast for an upcoming animated project. What are the odds. Sarah (Esterline) Sampson was at the USC game with her son Alex and sat next to soccer friend Kenyon Meyer. Gwen (Ward) Farishian and Caroline Goles finished the NYC marathon together raising money for the Boomer Esiason Foundation. This race plan was hatched over drinks at Reunion. Patrick “Birge” Beldio sent this scoop. When he married Audrey in 2008, they changed their last name to Beldio, which means “beautiful God” in Italian. Patrick completed his PhD in Religion and Culture from Catholic University in 2016, and in the same week finished a monumental sculpture called The New Being. 93 Reinvention
As I mentioned in the last issue, my husband Jim and I relocated to the Philadelphia area after living in CA and AZ for 17 years. While I still have my job with the same company, the relo feels like a sort of reinvention of self, which got me thinking. It’s been almost a quarter of a century since we graduated. Our class notes have shared stories of “firsts” and “starts”: our first job out of college, our first promotion, getting married and starting a family, but not so much about reinvention. While many of us have changed jobs, how many have changed careers or followed a completely different path? It would be so interesting and inspiring to hear from those of you who have reinvented yourselves. Then again, I’d love to hear from you even if you’ve been doing the same thing for 25 years and loving it! One thing many of us have been doing since graduation is traveling to watch our Fighting Irish football team. Kevin Nelson traveled to Boston to visit Geoff Pechinsky and attend the BC game (before we knew the football team would impress). It was a mini London Fall ’91 reunion as John Fischer, Paul Noonan and Matt Berger were also part of the weekend festivities. Don’t forget to mark your calendars: May 31 - June 3 is our class Reunion. I’m looking forward to the 25th Reunion tradition of having our class mass at the Grotto on Friday night. First of all, my email address at the bottom is correct. I’m sorry if you tried to contact me based on the address that was printed in the last issue. It was incorrect. Todd Moore sent to me the following update. For the past nine years, since he closed The Chicago Chocolate Company, he has been commuting from Chicago to Scott Air Force Base east of St. Louis, working in the Air Operations Center there. He has been leading a team of command and control specialists, directing all airlifts for the Dept. of Defense worldwide. In October, he took a new position as director, customer service solutions for United Airlines and is working in their Network Operations Center in Chicago. This that means he will only commute back to Scott for a weekend per month of reservist duty. Todd’s and Carol’s girls are Chloe, 6, and Quinn, 4, and they are growing up fast. Chloe is in first grade and Quinn will start kindergarten next fall. Carol is still working for CVS as a director of trade negotiations. They moved from Oak Park to River Forest about a year ago. Matt Thornhill is a magistrate judge and has been since 2006. Additionally, he and his bride Heather have seven children. An avid Elvis fan, Matt plans to visit Graceland for his 16th time soon. Larry Dumas recently celebrated 22 years of bliss with his bride, Chandra. They are blessed with three sons and Larry uses his legal skills to efficiently operate a couple insurance agencies in God’s country, Oklahoma. He also sends his blessings. Ed Sullivan recently took the position of vice president, general counsel and secretary for NIBCO Inc., a large business in northern Indiana. He is due to be a grandparent soon and hopes to get some grandparenting tips from law classmates. Please reach out and give Ed your advice. Charlie (aka Charley) Hegarty recently cited Wong Sun on the record from the bench. That tree has been poisoning stuff since 1963, I hear. Rich Rolwing still claims his last name is the only word in the English language with the “lw” combination, but as I recall Prof. Rhodes saying, that that might not always be the case. Rich has been married for 16 years and has a son. Counselor Rolwing has been with the Department of Justice as a prosecutor for 18 years and has had success cracking down on plenty of bad guys. Rich reports golfing last summer with Bill Farrell and John Garda. (Rumor has it that Bill’s golf ball kept hitting the windmill.) Rich also met up with Ed Sullivan for the Georgia game. Judy Fox has completed 20 years of work with the Law School. She has helped nearly 1 million people in need of legal services, rounding up to the nearest million. Nicole and Chris Hirai and their five children, are living in Costa Rica, in Puntarenas Province, between the cities of Jaco and Parrita. I saw a few of our classmates on my biannual trek to South Bend for the USC game. Carolyn and Jeff Donarski and two girls live in Oak Park IL. Jeff works for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. I’ll start off by apologizing to the 17 people (including my father) who read this column. I haven’t written anything for the past few quarters and I have no excuse other than I forgot. Despite missing roughly, a year, I still don’t have a lot to say. Angela (Stavropoulos) Laurite and I had the pleasure of spending a couple days in Hilton Head SC over the summer with our children and with Julie (Snook) and Chris Ohlmeyer, Katherine and Mike Mulligan, Caren and Dave Pasquale, Natalie and M. Scott Aubry and everyone’s children. Two highlights include a ropes course in which Mike, Dave and Scott bailed on Chris, Julie and me along with the kids, and Dave leading the beach baseball tournament each day. These games were no joke, and I think the Mulligan boys were the clear winners overall. Fun was had by all. I was lucky enough to attend the Temple game where I saw Natalie and M. Scott in their new South Bend apartment, as well as Amy and Matt Kavanaugh. At the Georgia game the following week, several classmates were in attendance among the many Georgia fans. These included Angela (Stavropoulos), Elizabeth (Ix) and Tom Buccellato, Jenner Davis and her husband Papa, Diana (Stratbucker) Cook, and J. Matt Carr. Others in attendance at our tailgate were Dan Pezolt and his son Matt, Pierre Nona, Natalie and Scott Aubry, and Matt Kavanaugh. We also connected with Dave Hilal and Jon Langenfeld, as well as Bob Crissman who still lives on the West Coast and is doing great. Dave is enjoying life after a strong career at Friedman, Billings & Ramsey, while Jon still works at Robert W. Baird in Milwaukee. Angela and I also recently saw Jon and Nora at Wake Forest for parent’s weekend. Shannon (Davis) and Dan Pezolt are still loving Atlanta and are thrilled at being super close to Angela and me. He’s also still obsessed with Marist sports. Kevin Dougherty and Mike Mulligan were on campus for the Miami of Ohio game, and Doc planned to be back for the Wake Forest game as well, along with Kavanaugh. Sean O’Neill, who was at last year’s Virginia Tech game at ND, finds himself on the other side as his twin boys attend Virginia Tech. We all assume that when the Irish meet VA Tech next year, Sean will root for ND. Right? That’s all I have for now. The Surreal McCoys rocked Cheers pub on Dixie Highway not one but two nights this year: Friday and Saturday of the NC State weekend. In the spirit of Halloween, Patrick Smith went dressed as Slash, Erik Huey went as Buddy Holly, Shawn Ryan painted his face like Braveheart, Clint Feddersen was Waldo, and Tim Smith was himself. There were numerous other sightings of classmates at the reunion game, but this went to press as that information was rolling in. Vinny Sanchez ’91BA, ’94JD, partner and co-chair of DLA Piper’s technology, data and commercial practice, and Michelle Wisk Some ’96JD, SVP at Conduent, closed their ultimate merger in late 2016 in front of an enthusiastic group of family and friends overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Some 20 years after not knowing each other during their one overlapped year of law school, and not being introduced by their countless mutual friends and colleagues, they continue to toast their good fortune at their new home in Manhattan Beach. 2018 may prove more challenging when Michelle’s undergrad alma mater, Michigan, is back on the football schedule. Jay Town became the US District Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama in August. He is one of 93 US Attorneys in the country. His territory includes 60 percent of Alabama’s population, including Birmingham and Huntsville. Prior to this, he worked 12 years in the Madison County District Attorney’s office as a prosecutor. He is still very involved with Notre Dame, recently donating funds for Notre Dame’s very first Vapor Wake dog. Heather (Weeks) Pacholke lives in Lewisville NC with her husband, Dave, and their kids: CJ, Jessa and Drew. Heather works as a radiation oncologist for U of North Carolina in High Point. She recently met Kathleen Dubois at an ND Women Connect group and enjoyed getting to know her. Heather’s roommate, Kelly (Dwight) Lamb, visited from Huron OH this year for Heather’s son’s First Communion celebration. She and her husband Tim enjoy exciting times as the parents of six kids who are elementary school to college age. Heather also reports that, in August, she went on the Notre Dame Trail, which traveled the path of Father Sorin 175 years ago. It was a very physical, spiritual journey. She shared that she met many wonderful people from all over with diverse stories and reasons for traveling the trail. She walked a portion of the trail with Haley (Scott) DeMaria and they shared meaningful stories from their lives. When they arrived at campus they left rocks at the chapel as prayer intentions from ND students and alumni that had submitted their prayers. Many of these were heart wrenching and, as she prayed for them daily on the trail, she realized again how connected we all are. Heather also shares that her family was fortunate to spend Labor Day with Heather’s roommate, Rochelle (Stewart) ValSaint, and her children, Gabby and Johnathan, who live in Atlanta. They met in the North Carolina mountains and traveled to Grandfather Mountain, which seemed like the top of the world. The city dwellers were awed and a bit scared of the height of the swinging bridge. In other news, Meghan (Blake) Payne and her husband Craig recently became the proud owners of Evolve Fitness Chicago, a personal training studio in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. After a decade at home raising their two amazing daughters, Grace and Evelyn, Meghan decided it was time to re-enter the (paying) workforce. Prior to entering the fitness industry, Meghan had been a banker with LaSalle National Bank of Chicago for 10 years. Meghan and family live in Chicago and welcome anyone passing through on their way to ND to stop on by for a meal or a workout. And, finally, with profound sadness we share that Kevin G. Gardner II passed away in September from the complications of glioblastoma, after receiving the Last Rights and Apostolic Blessing. 96 Major Changes
It’s been an eventful six months for Kathryn and Kevin Kuwik. They welcomed a baby daughter, Natalie Irene, in May, and have recently moved to Huntersville NC as Kevin will be coaching at Davidson College. He hopes to eventually recruit some of his classmates’ sons as they come of age. (Attention: Kevin and Stacy Janicki.) Next year will be Ken Devlin’s 18th in Chicago, which is as long as he lived in his beloved Pittsburgh. But he’s still raising his sons, Michael and Luke, as devoted Penguin, Pirate, and Steeler fans, to the chagrin of his wife, Rebecca. Ken works in marketing for EZLinks Golf, and is sad to say that his golf game has not improved at all. Cheryl and Tim Consedine, along with Jack, 10, and Dylan, 6, recently moved to a new home across the street. Tim is still a regional economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its Boston Office. Tim reports that Zane Way just completed a charity walk for his daughter Ava (Ava’s Army) and the Hydrocephalus Foundation in Denver. Tim also shares that Greg Sinnott married Caitlin Horan in Albany last May. Groomsmen included Rick Delvecchio, Mark Troske, Tim Sola, and Brant Gauthier. Erik Goldschmidt PhD was recently appointed as the director of the Foley Community Service Center at Spring Hill College in Mobile AL. Forde Fairchild returned to Sioux City IA in September after a one-year tour in Afghanistan as a special Deputy US Marshal and as the justice attaché, and is happy to return to his young family. While overseas, he furthered US law enforcement efforts in Afghanistan and advised and assisted the government of Afghanistan on high-profile criminal cases and issues. Emily (Matson) Holland, Sarah (Kahler) Mustillo, and Natalie (Hocking) Teng were on campus for the NC State game for a PW roommate reunion. Emily resides in Portland OR, Sarah is the department chair of sociology at ND, and Natalie is a pediatrician in Phoenix. Tom Donlan resides in Phoenix and recently published an article that deals with his research on French Catholicism and the French priest, Francis de Sales, titled “Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary: Witness to a Catholicism of Douceur,” which is found in the book, Love is the Perfection of the Mind. — Kate Crisham; catherine.crisham@usdoj.gov

Mary Jo Loranger Anderson left her post as executive director of the Volunteer Lawyer Network about four years ago to concentrate on raising her three sons. She and her husband John Anderson have been enjoying the thrills and chills of domestic life in South Bend. As her husband said, “She just can't seem to leave here.” Finally, Jim Freebery's dog, Irish, turned 6 this year. (That’s 42 in doggy years). Pat is living in São Paulo, Brazil, having started his own business (gormangp.com) helping tech companies and private equity funds hire their senior C-level leaders. His son recently made the elite level for the Paris St. Germain soccer club that has a training team in Brazil. Ron Patrick recently came down for a visit and they had a thousand laughs, a lot of great food and wine and adventures with his crazy window in his apartment. (It is hard to explain but even Ron, the brilliant doctor that he is, could not figure out how to close it properly.) For any ND friends visiting Pat, he will make sure to give them the Brazilian window test. Pat is off to Spain for the rest of the year to explore. If there are any Domers in Spain, please try to connect with Pat. He is taking a 3-month vacation to read, write and enjoy the country. He will be based in Madrid. 97MBA 75th Edition of Notes
I hope this edition of our Class Notes finds everyone doing well. It’s always great to hear from so many of you. This column marks my 75th edition of our Class Notes. What, say it isn’t so! I want to thank all who have contributed to the column over the years, and I look forward to continuing to hear from you in the future. This column features updates on more than 15 MBA alumni. Ellen and Tim Connors have changed jobs. Tim is the director at Camp Smith Training in Peekskill, that is New York’s only training facility for its National Guard. Tim enjoys the views of the Hudson Valley from his offices. Ellen is at Urban Assembly, working with over 20 schools in NYC and Los Angeles on building social and emotional learning curriculum. Tim is considering retirement from his Army Reserve duties. Tim saw Doug Hopek and Kevin Carden in Chicago during the summer. Bill Asch is with United Health Group as an enterprise agile coach, trying to help transform UHG into a more agile business model. Bill and wife Emily’s daughter started high school this year and their son is in middle school. Bill regularly sees Jason Parker ’98MBA and his family. Guido Gerstl and family moved to Miami FL. That may be the shortest update I’ve ever received. I had a chance to catch up with Anthony Jowid recently by phone. It’s always great to speak with Ant and have a few laughs reminiscing about our years at ND. Anthony was on campus for the Georgia game with Chuck O’Neal ’98MBA, Paul Silva ’98MBA and Jack Ledbeter ’98MBA. On a separate note, Antman’s been elected board president of Environmental Charter Schools in LA. Congrats. It was great to hear from Ryan Baker. Ryan was in South Bend for the SC game and caught up with Stu and Jennifer Fortener, Mike Dion, Mike’s famous friend Larry, as well as Doug Hopek, Kevin Carden and Mike Dunnigan. Ryan and Mike Dunnigan had not seen each other since May of 1997, and had a great time catching up. Ryan claims it was as if they were back at Senior Bar 20 years earlier commiserating about the Tenario midterm exam. Tim Coff is the president and CEO of Viewpointe in Charlotte NC. Tim and Katie took the kids Mary and Charlie to the Temple game and hung out with Stu and Jennifer Fortener. This summer marked the 12th anniversary of the Long Island Comedy Festival. In addition to the annual summer festival which was our first venture, our show offerings now include Mom’s Night Out Comedy Show, New Year’s Laughin’ Eve, The Berkshire Comedy Festival and the new 50-plus Comedy Tour, which features, you guessed it, all comedians over the age of 50. The 50-plus comedy shows have been widely received at top venues across the Long Island region and we are now working on expanding the tour throughout the Northeast. 98 Cross Country Reunion
The 1997-98 cross country team held a reception on campus during the NC State weekend to honor the ’97 Big East Cross-Country Championship team from 20 years ago. The reunion was organized by Scott Grace and Jim Pilla. Scott is an engineer at General Motors and lives in Michigan. Jim is a director for the United States Specialty Sports Association and resides in New Jersey. They were joined by teammates Mike Conway, Ryan Blaney ’99, Antonio Arce ’99, Ryan Maxwell ’99, Ted Higgins ’01, and retired Head Coach Joe Piane. Stanford Hall dorm-mates Matt Peacock, Carl Schwab and Dr. Aaron Dunn joined the team at the reception. Mark Holloway made an East Coast tour visiting several classmates while on a business trip. Included were Richard Wallen in NYC, Leah Gardinier in Connecticut and Sarah Collins in Rhode Island. Frank Chang visited fellow alum Bill Kane and his family in Orange County CA. According to Frank, Bill is “still a fitness freak and takes part in endurance events including triathlons, where he keeps up with the best of them.” Michael Purcell is head of distribution at Spouting Rock Asset Management in Bryn Mawr PA. After spending two years at State Street, Hong Chen is back in the healthcare industry. 99 Happy New Year
It was great to hear from a few of you. Thanks for the updates. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season. Onward to 2018 we go. Carolyn (Rottinghaus) Debo and husband Jason welcomed their first child, Eddie, on August 4th. Carolyn spent her entire 40th birthday (the 3rd) in labor, but he is the best little present. Maureen (Phelan) Murano and husband Andrew welcomed their second child, Mark Henry, on April 20th. Everyone is healthy and well and big brother David just loves him. Meeghan (Karle) and Patrick Mousaw had their sixth child, Joseph Delon, in December 2016. They also would like to officially welcome their fifth, Margaret Jeanne, born June 2014. Margaret was born on the last day of our 15-year class Reunion after a fun class mass and dinner with Eric Stuiber, Kelli Swinarski, Heidi Orde and Bridget Holland. Patrick and Meeghan have three boys, and three girls and live near Notre Dame. Patrick recently changed jobs and now is a technical consultant with Mettler Toledo. Meeghan is a professional blogger and you can check out her blog at sightandsoundreading.com. Meeghan and Patrick have enjoyed hosting and seeing many classmates including Tim Mousaw, Sara Burke, Tara (McGrail) and Rob Holcomb, Jess Fries-Gaither, Deborah Irwin, and Dana (Collins) and Brian Bussing, to name a few. They also love hanging out with other ND locals like Anna VanOverberghe or Gina Navoa. Meegan says, “it is hard to believe that we have known our ND friends for over half our lives. We can’t wait to see everyone in 2019 at our 20th Reunion!” Lt. Col. Katie Crowder was named the 2017 Association of Military Surgeons of Uniformed Services Physician of the Year. 99MBA No Place Like Home
Brendan and I were back on campus for the USC game in October, and commented that no matter how much time has passed since we’ve been back, Notre Dame always feels like home. It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since we all landed at COBA together. It was great to catch up with Bill Avey, Michelle Hays, and Kevin Patrick, who were at the game. Brendan and I were also fortunate to visit with Mark ’98MBA and Melissa Napier during their vacation in California in September. On Oct. 9, Sean King helped team-teach a new Notre Dame undergraduate course, “Approaching Asia.” Sean's presentation topic was on the ultra-nationalist nature of North Korean state ideology. Scott James’ first book is now shipping (preparedneighborhoods.com). It’s a unique lens on preparedness through a lens of love and community building, rather than fear.
