10 An Irish Wedding
Allison Cudworth married Matthew Fleming, a native of Co. Roscommon in Ireland, in Galway, Ireland, in September 2024. Bridesmaids included Melissa Braganza, Christiane Cardoza, Kelsey Kennedy and Katie Rose Quandt, with other classmates in attendance. The couple currently resides in Basel, Switzerland, where both work as engineers in the medical device industry. Jeff “Grizz” Ullrich married Annie Ullrich on July 5 in Katy TX. Annie is an Aggie and their relationship has now survived both our football teams losing to each other, a good sign that their relationship will survive. The couple lives in Houston, where Annie is an elementary school teacher and Jeff became an insurance counselor for DaVita Dialysis earlier this year. Monserrat Miramontes Resnick and Mark Resnick welcomed their daughter, Madeline Isabella, in October. She joins older brother Maxwell to make a happy family of four. Lindsey Sena Vitter and J. Scott Vitter Jr. baptized their son, Jeffrey Scott “Scotty” Vitter III, at the Log Chapel on Sept. 27 alongside Scotty’s cousins Arthur and Cormac. Chris Savino recently developed and launched his first board game, called Cross Spin, where players race to solve mini-crossword puzzles. You can check it out at jopatgames.com. Our very own Kelly (McKenna) McRaven is serving as the president of the Notre Dame Alumni Association Board of Directors for the 2025 - 2026 term. 11 Babies, Weddings, Career Milestones
Happy New Year, Class of 2011! We have so much to celebrate and be grateful for this year — thank you all for writing in to share your special moments and accomplishments. First off, congrats to Ashlie and Jackson Bangs, who welcomed their first child, Florence Elizabeth Bangs, born July 29. Beth Cotter and her husband, Russell, welcomed their first child, Riley Johnathan Toth, this August. He now shares a birthday with both his dad and grandpa! Cindy Chan and her husband, Sylvain Marliac, are thrilled to welcome their second daughter, Charlotte Marliac, born this September. She joins her sister, Maddie (age 3), who is happy to be promoted to big sister. Jenny Dahm is happy to share that she married her fiancée, Emily Sherman, on Oct. 25 in Madison WI. Fellow Domers in attendance to celebrate included David Bretz and his husband Leif Evensen, Meredith Figg, Liz (Freund) and Mike Perone, Katie Valko, Tessa (Plaschke) and Charlie Landis, and Anne Flinchbaugh, with Caitlin and Tony Ayala and Tom Banasiak celebrating from afar. Allison Kieffer ’15 and her husband, Ed Coley, were also in attendance. Emily and Jenny live in Madison in their newly purchased isthmus home, enjoying everything the city has to offer, including spending lots of time on their pontoon they share with David and Leif. Now for some exciting career updates! Kevin G. Murphy was promoted to co-counsel at the NY State Board of Elections in August, after three and a half years as deputy counsel. Maura Sullivan Hill combined her love of writing and figure skating to write the book Legends of Women’s Figure Skating, published by Abbeville Press on Nov. 4. It profiles 28 legends in the sport, from Dorothy Hamill to Michelle Kwan, to hopefuls for the 2026 Olympics, like 2025 World Champion Alysa Liu. Byung-jo Victor Yoon recently completed his fellowship training in interventional spine at the U of Kansas Medical Center and has begun working as a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago. This completes Victor’s long training in medicine and begins an exciting new chapter in his professional life. Is “farm updates” a category of interest? I’ll share that here in southwest MI, my husband and I have continued our chicken tending and gardening endeavors, though that has all slowed down since the first frost. 12 Welcome Luciana! Welcome Luke!
Justine (Ward) and Stephen Fernandez welcomed a daughter, Luciana Rose, on Nov. 30, 2024. Luciana was baptized at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on March 2, by Rev. Gabriel Griggs, CSC. Congratulations to Justine, Stephen and Luciana! Congratulations to Adrian Cunningham on buying a house in 2024! John Heid and his wife, Kacie, welcomed their third child and first son, Luke Daniel Heid, on July 25. Big sisters Audrey and Emma are infatuated with him and constantly ask to hold him and play with him; Luke, for his part, seems to take the repeated pokings and proddings from his headstrong sisters in stride. 12JD Our Newest Additions
Hello again, friends! I am happy to return with another column after a short break from carrying out this Sisyphean task last quarter. I am sure my younger brother will treat my brief lapse with a professionalism and grace that would make our mother proud of him for once. But enough of that! Let’s move on to the news. As has been true for the last 13-plus years, we start with new babies: Ryan Snyder and his wife, Bethany, welcomed a baby boy into the family. George was born in July and his big sister, Madison, is already a huge fan of his work. Ryan is also staying busy working as an associate professor over at Mizzou Law. Aaron Terwey and his wife, Margaret (who Aaron says is a good person despite going to Michigan for law school), had their third kiddo. New son John, also born in July, joins his brother William (6) and sister Louise (4) to finally achieve numerical superiority over their parents. Aaron also shared that he’s still working as a corporate partner over at Goodwin, representing start-ups and venture capital funds. Congratulations to both expanding families! Moving on to professional developments, Manasi Raveendran shared that she left the Food and Drug Administration over the summer and is now working as federal policy and advocacy counsel with the Center for Reproductive Rights. Manasi is happy to be staying in Washington DC, and says that her new role is an exciting and fulfilling chance to work on precisely the kind of important human rights issues that brought her to law school in the first place. Congrats! Moving on into miscellany, Michael Ten Broeke recently discovered that if you find yourself in a situation where you need to hard-boil some eggs, the addition of white vinegar to the water makes them significantly easier to peel once cooled. Michael reports that this tip is of particular importance when one is making a large number of eggs that will need rapid peeling, and I have never found myself agreeing with an update more. Last but never least, Alvin Adjei and his wife, Selena, bought their first house down in Houston! They’re very excited with the house and the location, and Alvin has already begun digging the moat he always dreamed of. I asked him whether he was worried about the HOA being upset about the moat and he said, “It’s always better to ask for forgiveness than permission.” We’ll have to see how that works out, I guess. Hello all, and thank you for reading another installation of Class Notes. I gotta say, the lack of emails was a bummer; I really enjoy hearing from you all and getting to know what great things you’re up to. Plus, I can’t have an empty column like that no-good two-bit hack above me. Luckily Dr. Jeff Vitter ’77 came in clutch to avoid the blank. He let me know that his daughter, Audrey (Vitter) McCabe, and her husband, Ryan, had their son baptized in the Log Chapel on Sept. 27, along with his other two youngest grandchildren, Arthur, son of Jillian (Vitter) Alagic ’07, and Jeffrey III (son of J. Scott Jr. and his wife, Lindsay, both of 2010). Through my incredible detective skills, I found out that Gabe Delatte and his wife, Emily, had their third child, Leo Joseph, who was warmly welcomed by siblings Micah and Norah on July 14. Maria (Diamond) Stolzman and her husband, Mike, welcomed Michael Donald Stolzman later that same month on July 30. Finally, in my sleuthing, I found out that Gong Weng is in the process of starting a shoe business. Not to be outdone, his childhood rival Tom Nevins Oliver has started an eco-friendly hardsoled toe sock that can be worn in any season except winter, fall and spring. After moving four times since graduation, Britt and Luke Gildner settled in Fort Mill SC (Charlotte) and have been there for seven years. Max (11), Lucy (9) and Cora (7) are growing like weeds! Luke has been with S&P Global since graduation and is now analytical manager of the Charlotte team. But the big news is that Luke turned 40 in November! The family celebrated as a family in Punta Cana in October. Happy 40th, Luke! We also have news about someone who is 40 years away from celebrating her 40th. Ilze and Jonathan Flatley welcomed Abigail Grace in August. While everyone is thrilled she’s here, older brother Jack is most excited to welcome her to the world. As always, I appreciate the updates. 13JD Final Final Fridays of Yore
Fifteen years have passed since our very first Final Final Friday and the end of the fall semester of our 1L year. I still remember Ben Nissim letting out a yawp of relief and exultation while wearing an ugly sweater at Mulligan’s (rest in peace). Maybe it’s Notre Dame magic that makes 2010 seem so recent. If you’re reading this in 2026, have a drink of something strong in honor of your old, scruffy 1L self and your equally scruffy classmates. Erin Orndorff and husband Kyle welcomed their daughter Maeve Willis in March 2025. They live in central MI where Erin practices boot law as senior corporate counsel at Wolverine Worldwide. Breanna Contreras recently relocated her family from NM to the Boston area while her husband, Dax, pursues his masters at MIT (ever heard of it?). Breanna is VP of business and legal affairs at Meow Wolf, and recently presented on unique legal issues arising from immersive entertainment spaces at the 35th Annual Entertainment Law Institute at the U of Texas (a fine institution) and at SXSW. Very special thanks to Emily Erickson, Kelli Mulder and Joe Florczak for making the trip to Hallettsville TX to attend the 40th birthday hoedown for a certain class secretary. 14 Yes, Virginia
It’s always a bit strange to write these columns months before you will see them. I am currently sitting in front of a bowl full of Halloween candy (which will, alas, need to be replenished before we even have a single trick-or-treater) and thinking about what is the best thing to say for a magazine that is due to come out around Christmas! I absolutely love Christmas — I love the decorations, the music, the breathless anticipation that comes for us all, even those of us too old to believe in Santa Claus. By the way: Yes, Virginia, he exists. “He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to our life its highest beauty and joy.” May your holiday season be filled with love, generosity and devotion, with the delight that comes from believing in things that are pure and beautiful and magical. Our first announcement comes from Kristin (Springer) Cooper and husband Joe, who celebrated the birth of their son, Benjamin! Along with big sister Sadie, Kristin and Joe are bursting with pride, and we are too! Congratulations, Kristin and Joe! Celine (Fausto) and Andrew Troy are delighted to share that they welcomed their daughter, Elise, in September. Elise’s big brother, Theo, loves to play and laugh with her. It sounds like Theo is one amazing big brother, and it sounds like Elise is one lucky girl — welcome to the world! It is my great honor to share two Lyons Hall updates: First, over in SC, Catherine (Ake) Edwards and husband John are pleased to share the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, on Aug. 23. Elizabeth is ready to begin her first holiday celebrations and Catherine and John are completely in love (um, us too!!). And rounding out our baby updates is one that sounds like double the diapers and double the celebration: Kellie (Travis) Shlifer and husband Eric were thrilled to welcome their twin girls, Elowyn and Kiera, on Oct. 11. I can confidently say that these little girls are already so loved: by Kellie, Eric and the rest of the Notre Dame family. I can’t even begin to say how excited I am to add these three newest little Lyonites to the pride! Finally, I have an incredibly inspiring update to share from our very own Molly Shawhan. This past April, Molly and her brother Tommy completed the Boston Marathon together! Team Tommy qualified for Boston in Carmel IN in April 2024, while simultaneously breaking a Guinness World Record together! They race as “Duo Athletes,” with Molly pushing Tommy in a specialized racing chair for the full 26.2-mile race. Tommy wore a Fighting Irish hat the whole way, and his chair sported some very stylish shamrocks. Molly reports that her brother is her biggest inspiration and biggest fan — and a Domer at heart! Congratulations, Team Tommy — what an incredible accomplishment!! Christy Lucas MD was honored as part of this year’s Domer Dozen for improving the lives of children and families suffering from pediatric cancer. Tabitha Ricketts works as senior architect at Credera. Alexander Robinson completed the triple crown of open water swimming, a marathon challenge consisting of three historically important swims, with his Catalina Channel crossing in June. Erin Scallen completed the Leadville 100, a 100-miler trail race, and finished seventh woman overall. Jacob Schrimpf ran the Budapest Marathon. Casey Skevington has worked at Ford for over nine years and also has the most impressive backyard garden! Kathy Wadolowski serves as assistant director of marketing and communications at NYU Stern and earned a feature from Mendoza for her storytelling and student impact. Pat Wieland was accepted to general surgery residency at OSU. He, wife Jackie (SMC) and son Colin will be moving to Columbus next summer. Matthew Williams entered his photography in the Boulder County Fair and won Grand Champion in the photography division as well as first and third place in the animals class. Karie Wolf joined the AEG team as partner activation manager at Nashville Yards. 18 Sad News
I am saddened to announce that one of our classmates, Mason Robert Anderson, passed away Sept. 19. A Minnesotan, Mason was a mechanical engineering major and was deeply involved in Knott Hall Grilled Cheese. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Huber. Selena Ponio married Blake Talbert in the Upper West Side of Manhattan on Oct. 11. Matt Ogburn proposed to Brynn Mays on July 26 in the picturesque mountains and foothills beneath Mount Hood in OR. They first met 13 years prior in Louisville. Micaela Powers and JP Mulcahy were married July 12 in Traverse City MI with many of their 2018 classmates in attendance. ND alums making speeches included JP’s sister Helen Mulcahy ’15, as well as Micaela’s brothers Tim ’11, Brian ’12, Andy ’21 and Bill Powers ’23. Andrew Meisenbacher and Caroline Baisier were married Oct. 25 at Christ the King Cathedral in Atlanta. The happy couple recently returned to Philadelphia, the city where they first met, after spending the past two years in Evanston IL, where Andrew earned his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern. They’re excited to begin their new life together in Philly. On the top of North Peak in Keystone CO, Grace Lattner ’19 and James Fraser were married Aug. 31. They were married by their close friend Katie Schloz ’19. Christopher Flood married Mary Katherine (Noelke) ’20 in February in Naples FL. Elena Ezzo and Sean Gaouette were married Oct. 18 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington DC. Leanne Van Allen married Max Bloom with seven of her McGlinn Shamrock sisters among other of our classmates in attendance in a beautiful DC ceremony this August. True to her PLS roots, Tolstoy was quoted. Surrounded by family, friends and many Alumni Dawgs, Sean Clarkin married Diana Leodori at Holy Cross Church in Rumson NJ in November. Congratulations to Lauren Saunee and Brendan Besh, who celebrated the birth of their son, Matthew Joseph Besh, on June 28. Catherine and Mark Cerutti welcomed their future Domer, Ava Marie, to the world Sept. 15. Nathan Klair is proud to announce the birth of baby boy Xavier John Klair on April 17. Sophie (Lillis) and Thomas Yaeger were blessed to welcome their second child, Thomas Owen Yaeger III, on Oct. 3. They now reside in Chicago. Emily Alff was selected for and participated in the 77th Missouri Photo Workshop, a highly prestigious photojournalism program that aims to document life in rural MO. Brenna Leahy graduated from Tulane U with a Master of Business Administration in May. William “Jeff” Melsheimer achieved a new PR running the Berlin Marathon in under three and a half hours. Nicholas Furnari reunited with Andres Zamora and his wife, Ana, while in Nashville in June. Nicholas also enjoyed visiting Promise Choice and her husband, Carlos, in Atlanta. They then were lucky enough to meet back up in South Bend a few weeks later. Shout-out to Capt. Tyler Belin, a US Army Chinook helicopter pilot, who was honored as a member of the Domer Dozen for his service and defense of our nation. 19 Fall Updates
The Class of 2019 is back with updates from the past few months! These have been exciting times for our class, matched only by the exciting play of our Fighting Irish football team! Love was in the air across the summer and early fall for our classmates. Elizabeth Cameron and Peter Loughran were married in a beautiful ceremony in San Juan Capistrano CA in September, with Megan Lynch in the bridal party. Megan Irving tied the knot with Wesley Short in August in downtown Indianapolis. Wedding bells will soon be ringing for the following Class of 2019 graduates: Mateo Garcia-Novelli will marry Anna Kalkman ’20 in October of this coming year. Annie McCarter and Brendan Campbell were engaged on a beautiful evening in NYC. Trebor Goodall has recently become engaged to Jazmin Flete ’20 of Badin Hall. The Class of 2019 has continued its far-reaching professional successes. William LeRoy Ph.D. completed his doctoral studies in economics at the U of Maryland in May. William began his academic career this fall as an assistant professor in economics at Charles U in Prague, Czech Republic. In August, Andrew Skiff accepted a new position as director of music ministries at Saint Gerard Catholic Church in Lansing MI. As of July, Natalie Alvarez serves as the president of the Notre Dame Club of the San Francisco Bay Area. Good news continues for Trebor Goodall — he recently transitioned to an exciting new role at Fanatics, where he’s leading athlete partnerships across the NBA, NFL and NIL. Nathaniel Hanson ’19Ph.D. was selected among the 2025 Domer Dozen, a collection of outstanding graduates age 32 and younger noted for their significant contributions and extraordinary dedication to learning, service, faith and work. Nathaniel is pioneering advanced sensing technologies, empowering first responders and redefining how innovation supports disaster response and humanitarian relief. Noah Busk, Dan Ertle and Mikey Rubalcava were among the thousands who completed the remarkable milestone of running the 2025 Chicago Marathon. Congratulations to all who participated in this event! Lastly, the Class of 2019 would like to extend condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Simon John Mariani, who passed away in July of this year. Simon was a proud graduate of Our Lady’s University, graduating with undergraduate degrees in accounting and economics. Simon worked at PwC for three years, earning his CPA before returning to Notre Dame to receive his master’s in finance (MBA) in 2024. He maintained his connections to Notre Dame as an alumnus, while also taking interests in painting, photography and baking — along with hiking across UT’s Big 5 National Parks and Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park.
