A call for the music of Notre Dame

Author: Carol Schaal '91M.A.

It’s not American Idol or Star Search or America’s Got Talent, but a hunt is under way for the work of musical Domers. The O’Neill Brothers, Tim ’94 and Ryan ’97, known for their piano duets, are producing two CDs that will spotlight songs from a variety of genres by ND students or graduates.

“We want a two-CD set that really features the talent of the Notre Dame family,” says Tim O’Neill.

The brothers previously produced the Here Come the Irish CD and decided it was time for an update. This time they are expanding the idea. “It’s an all-encompassing music project; whatever the music genre they perform in,” says Tim. They also are looking for songwriters to help add music to spoken-word pieces.

The first of the CDs will focus on mellow songs — “spiritual, reflective, soulful,” says Tim — and the second will feature upbeat pieces, “the rousing spirit of Notre Dame.”

As producers, the brothers will choose about 25 songs for the project and will pay a licensing fee for each song selected. While they would prefer “radio-ready” CDs or tapes, they are asking Domers to send in what they have.

Songs or CDs will be accepted through Dec. 31, 2010, and should be sent to Tim O’Neill, 1707 W. 26th St, Minneapolis, MN 55405. More information on the project is at http://pianobrothers.com/nd/.
