Alumni Association Awards The Rev. William Corby, CSC, Award will be presented to retired Lt. Col. Jack B. Matthews '63 during halftime of the ND-Navy football game on November 12. He received his Marine Corps commission in 1964 and served for 22 years before retiring. After earning advanced degrees from Washington State University, he became associate dean of academics at the Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia, until his retirement in March. He lectures extensively to young people, especially Marines, all around the world on the impact of alcoholism on the individual and the family. Matthews is credited with helping countless numbers of Marines recognize the need to seek help with alcoholism.…

Joseph A. Russo will receive the James E. Armstrong Award on April 25 at the spring Alumni Senate meeting. Russo, who received an honorary degree from Notre Dame in1992, has been the director of Notre Dame’s Office of Student Financial Services since 1978, and is now in his 38th year in his profession. Russo is editor of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrator’s Journal of Student Financial Aid

The James F. Armstrong Award will be presented posthumously to Dennis K. Moore at the spring Alumni Senate on April 23 in recognition of his distinguished service to the University. Moore was named associate vice president of Notre Dame’s division of public affairs and communication in April 2002. Prior to that appointment, he had served as principal spokesperson for the University since 1990 as director of public relations and information. Moore brought his talents to the University in 1988 after 20 years in journalism and corporate public relations, including 10 years as a freelance writer in the United States and Ireland, and four years as executive editor of The Kiwanis Magazine,
