The very model of a modern secretary-general appeared on campus this week when former United Nations chief Ban Ki-Moon gave a speech as part of the third Asia Leadership Forum, sponsored by the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies.

Ban’s talk, “The United Nations and Global Citizenship,” touched on his 2007-16 tenure as U.N. secretary-general and his humanitarian efforts in fields from climate change to public health. Following his prepared remarks, Ban participated in a discussion with Sara Sievers, the Keough School of Global Affairs’ associate dean for policy and practice, moderated by Rotary International general secretary John Hewko.

Secretary Ban is one of many illustrious speakers to share their wisdom at Notre Dame this semester. To hear highlights from a smattering of these campus lectures, stay tuned for our new series, Quips & Quotes, where we will share insights from one talk per week.
