Remember last month when we said that a theology class taught at the Jerusalem Global Gateway this summer sounded pretty cool? We now have confirmation: Studying religion in the Holy Land is very cool.
The 26 Notre Dame students in this summer's Jerusalem study abroad cohort traded one golden dome for another when they received a private guided tour of the complex known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif and to Jews as Temple Mount. Both religions revere the glittering Dome of the Rock as a holy site, making it a natural addition to the itinerary for a group that spent their summer meeting with NGOs and civic leaders and sharing Shabbat meals with Orthodox Jewish families and Iftar meals with Palestinian refugees.
If you're anything like us, you might be a little jealous of the cultural opportunities all these students are getting from studying abroad. You may not be able to sign up for London Semester 2.0, but you could always try the next best thing — the Notre Dame Alumni Association Travel Program takes travel- and education-hungry alums on dozens of trips around the world (the Holy Land included) every year.
