Have you ever wondered when campus is at its absolute quietest? By many measures, it's today: the first Friday in August. The weeks between summer session and fall semester are always low-key, but this particular Friday — before hall staff training or band camp, after the last summer programs vacate their classrooms — is the least-visited day of the year for Notre Dame's dining facilities.

But while there may not be much happening on campus, there's still Fighting Irish fun to be had elsewhere in Michiana. The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival has entertained audiences around the region all summer long, most recently with its Touring Company production of The Merchant of Venice. Here, Lorenzo (Eric Ways '18), Antonio (Corey Farrell), Jessica (Mary Elsa Henrichs '20), Portia (Elana Weiner-Kaplow) and Bassanio (Ken Miller) act out a scene at the Taltree Alboretum and Gardens in Valparaiso, Ind.

The Merchant of Venice closes its off-campus run this weekend with performances in Niles, Michigan; Three Oaks, Michigan; and Elkhart, Indiana. Back at Notre Dame, you can catch the show on August 20 outside of Main Building or attend the Professional Company's upcoming production of Othello later this month.
