Mary Sue Twohy
Tingly, ringing acoustic folk guitar songs from this singer-songwriter who was once a vocalist for the campus band Crust (“a takeoff from Bread”). After teaching high school on an Indian reservation, working for disarmament and in a holistic veterinary clinic, Twohy now splits her time between touring and working in a job-placement office in the D.C. area. Last year she won a Best New Artist award from the Washington Area Music Association. Her debut CD, consisting mostly of original songs with Celtic flavor and sparse accompaniment, showcases her clear soprano, reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell.
