Notre Dame Magazine has covered the University and topics of importance to alumni and friends for more than a half-century. We’ve published 222 print issues since the magazine was founded in 1972.
We recently achieved a longtime goal of digitizing the full run of the print magazine, from its founding to the present.
Our inaugural issue in February 1972 featured a newborn on the front cover, with the headline, “Who Shall Live and Who Decides?” Inside were essays about abortion, biomedical ethics and the soaring cost of medical care; a profile of Rocky Bleier ’68; news coverage about the recent collapse of merger talks between Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College; and a detailed report on the “Game of the Decade” — the November 1971 campus interhall football championship. Now, for the first time, every one of those issues is viewable and searchable at the magazine’s website. Every article, essay, page and illustration is there in full color — in PDF form, just as they appeared in print. As each new print issue of the magazine is published, it will be added to the collection.
