Edward “Moose” Krause ’34 played football in the days before helmets had facemasks, but he’s not risking a penalty for failing to protect himself and others during the coronavirus pandemic. Not far from where Moose holds court outside the Joyce Center, Knute Rockne stands sentry near the Notre Dame Stadium tunnel. Perhaps recalling the fall of 1918 when his first team had several games canceled due to the Spanish flu outbreak, Rockne too has taken precautions commensurate with the times.
