361. This series on Hannibal Mole was a dud. No one really liked it or cared. This did not stop me from reviving the characters for the special, four-page Molarity MM published in the Spring 2000 issue of Notre Dame Magazine.
362. The Observer was still celebrating the sixth-ranked Irish’s 7-0 victory over fifth-ranked Alabama. Notre Dame (8-0-1) moved to No. 2, just behind Georgia (10-0). As for the cartoon, someone asked my why the horse was talking in the last panel. Oh, boy.
363. A national blurb in this Observer noted that the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 1,000 points for the first time. Meanwhile, Kelly Sullivan maintained her lead among the paper’s sportswriters in the college football picks for the season with a .754 win-loss percentage. It did not take a great prognosticator to predict an Irish victory over the Air Force Academy for the game day following.
364. Not sure why, but it seems I did a number of illustrations for this paper including a dollar bill with Father Hesburgh’s picture on it. Pat Byrnes must have taken the night off.
365. Earlier in the week, Dean Roemer advised seniors to avoid the Senior Death March, the tradition of bar-hopping on the Friday night before the last home game. He also warned that, should the event take place, students violating city ordinances by blocking traffic, public drunkenness or acts of vandalism would be arrested by South Bend police.
