The dawning of March at Notre Dame means many things — spring break, Lent, the promise of the permacloud’s eventual lift. But this week, we're focusing on one spring trend in particular: tournament time.

In March, tournament play begins for not only the men’s and women’s basketball squads, but also the hockey team and our defending national champion fencers. To honor the impending postseasons, our Photo of the Week today is a throwback to the start of the season for our other defending champs. University photographer Matt Cashore ’94 snapped this photo at a home game last November when the women’s basketball team unveiled their 2018 championship banner in the Purcell Pavilion. A couple dozen games later, the ladies are now 27-3 as they prepare for the ACC Championships this weekend in North Carolina.

Finally, are you still wondering what stretch of 2005-era road you saw in last weeks image? Believe it or not, that was Edison Road, as seen looking east from Notre Dame Avenue. Keep an eye on Cashores Twitter for even more mind-bending photo trivia.

Photo of the Week highlights images of notable happenings on campus and in the Notre Dame family around the world. Have a snapshot you think we should see? Email scahalan@nd.edu to be considered for publication.
