Potwflyover Photo by Matt Cashore '94

Last week, Notre Dame Magazine editor Kerry Temple ’74 shared his pick for favorite photo from the first year of Photo of the Week. Today, University photographer and regular POTW contributor Matt Cashore ’94 explains his choice.

“Airplanes. Boy do I love me some airplanes,” he says. “Notre Dame Air Force ROTC commander Col. Jim “Juice” Bowen was kind enough to allow me to put a GoPro camera in the rear cockpit of the T-6 while the students did their familiarization flights. Yes, it would have been great to actually be along for the flight, but simply hanging out at the South Bend airport while the T-6s operated was aviation-geek heaven.”

Sophomore cadet Jill Ruane is the thumbs-upping pilot pictured, and you can read more about her GoPro-equipped flight here. Stay tuned next week for our final Photo of the Year, selected by University photographer Barbara Johnston.
