Teaching Resilience

Author: Notre Dame Magazine

Chris Jenson ’99 has witnessed first-hand the human toll of troubling data that show a long-term decline in mental health among young people. A former ER doctor and high school teacher, Jenson is the chief medical adviser for a Kansas City-area school district, and a consultant on health issues for education leaders around the country. He’s written a book After the Mask: A Guide to Caring for Students and Schools — with two of his former students, twin sisters Jessica and Rachael Sorcher. The authors join associate editor Jason Kelly ’95 on The Endless Conversation to discuss what their research reveals about the role teachers can play in strengthening students’ confidence and resilience.
