Photo of the Week: Up and Running

For many college students, the line between “up early” and “up late” can be uncertain, the demarcation between last night and this morning difficult to define in the blur of studying or — who knows? — perhaps extracurricular pursuits. For those in ROTC units, the distinction tends to be clearer. Mornings are for training, even if it still looks like last night at the hour they begin.

Notre Dame president Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. ’76, ’78M.A. joined ROTC cadets and midshipmen this week for an early-morning run that ended at Notre Dame Stadium — so early that the light that greeted them, and illuminated this Barbara Johnston photo, when they emerged from the tunnel did not come from the sun.
