By the Numbers: Notre Dame Commencement Speakers

Rev. John I. Jenkins, CSC, ’76, ’78M.A., who will step down in June after 19 years as Notre Dame’s president, will be the principal speaker at the May commencement exercises. It’s believed to be the first time at Notre Dame that the University president will serve as the commencement speaker.

An estimated 150 people have given commencement addresses since Notre Dame’s inaugural commencement in 1845. Based on available information, here are some numerical facts about them.
