Garrett Busch, serving as the president for Pacific Hospitality Group, is proud to announce the groundbreaking for their newest venture, a luxurious four-diamond hotel set to redefine hospitality in downtown Phoenix AZ. Scheduled to open its doors in fall 2026, this hotel promises to deliver an unparalleled experience of elegance and sophistication. He shared that this groundbreaking marks a significant milestone for the Meritage Collection as they introduce their first urban hotel in Phoenix. Ted Kwartler was recently back on campus for the first time in more than a decade! He had the closing remarks at a forum for the Lucy Institute (lucyinstitute.nd.edu) focused on health equity and data. He shared it was great to be back “home” and see how much has changed. 11 Winter Wins
Let’s get this party started! C. Danielle Tan married Russell Simpson in Chicago on Aug. 10. Her Lyons (and Ryan Hall) roommate, Carolyn Sever ’11, ’12MSA, and Alumni Hall bestie, Steven Ouyang, stood in the bridal party. A small class of ND alumni were also in attendance including Madeline Buckley, Christian Chan ’10, Nina (Farivari) Christianson, John Corgan, Katie (Comford) Fernandez ’09SMC, Packy Griffin, Shane O’Brien, Nicole (Ashley) Quien, Marina Ramos, Zach Reuvers, Colleen Reuvers ’11SMC, Dan Slubowski, Nick Tallardia, Gabby Triplette ’11MSA and Megan Walsh. In May, Melissa Coles graduated with her Ph.D. from Notre Dame’s Department of History and is now a postdoctoral research associate at Notre Dame’s Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism. Joe Sheehan graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in August and is a certified police officer for the state. He currently serves as a campus police officer for Marian U in Indianapolis. On May 30 in Seattle, Dylan PH Fernandez and Natalie Gordon welcomed their first child, Alder Patrick Gordon Fernandez. He is a gem! Kaitlin (Robinson) and John Lalor welcomed baby number five, Lucas Patrick Lalor, on Sept. 9. Erin Plate and Alex Taft celebrated their marriage in October in beautiful Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, together with their families and friends. The couple are both serving in the US Air Force in Germany and met while on a morale trip to Rome in Christmas 2018. They are looking forward to continuing their European adventures after spending the previous four years connecting via FaceTime over long distance, between DC and Germany, Italy and Turkey, then Germany (again) and TX. Bob Pacione and Laura Ruiz ’12SMC recently celebrated their son’s first birthday! Vincenzo “Enzo” Anthony Pacione was born Oct. 8, 2023, in Chicago to much fanfare. For his first birthday — farm themed! — they celebrated with friends and family alike at a pumpkin patch in Chicago. Fellow Domers Nicole Campo ’10, James Schwarber and Steve Stober were able to join. They can’t wait for more of their ND friends to meet Enzo soon. Ryan Belock, his wife, Michelle ’12, ’15JD, and their son Neil recently moved from NYC to Kansas City, where Ryan began a new role as assistant professor of digital and immersive media at the U of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. Ryan and his family are enjoying Midwest life. This fall, Ryan made his Broadway debut as associate projection designer for A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical, which opened Nov. 11. Last but not least, Elizabeth D’Amore ’11BArch is celebrating her sixth anniversary of establishing her architecture and art company, Studio D’Amore. Go check out her beautiful work! 11JD Good Tidings
Sorry, Class of 2011-ers, I have been delinquent — but I am back and hope to spread joy and good tidings. Kaitlin and Jason DiNapoli welcomed Paul DiNapoli to the DiNapoli clan on Dec. 2, 2023, at 5 pounds 9 ounces, and 18 inches. Kara Rossi and PJ Hines welcomed Carmino (“Mino” if he’s up to trouble) Michael Rossi Hines at 6 pounds 3 ounces, 18.75 inches. Legend has it that at less than a year old he has a fully developed taste for buffalo wings and arguing with his dad. Andrea ’07SMC and David Thaxton ’07, ’11JD added George Bradley to their squad on March 7, 2024. Now David has a full house to pull all-nighters with on random rabbit holes. 12JD Moving Up and Out
Hello, Class of 2012! Thanks again for tuning in, and thanks again for sending your updates my way! As is tradition, we start with babies! Ryan Shupe and his wife, Raquita, welcomed a second daughter into their family. Celeste, her parents and big sister Alina are doing well and enjoying getting to know one another. Moving into professional news, Monica (Bordas) Schmucker celebrated a year in practice with her own ADR practice, and was recently named special magistrate for the town of Fort Myers Beach FL. She and her family finally made it back into their house in February after Hurricane Ian messed things up, and as of August have a complete working kitchen (and no longer have to wash dishes in the shower). After surviving this year’s hurricane season, the Schmucker family celebrated their good fortune with some autumn squash soup and a trip to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on opening weekend. Congratulations; maybe don’t say that name a third time for a while. Katie Hammond also checked in with a few updates and a request for more Dr Pepper trivia (which I am happy to oblige below). After 15 years in South Bend, she’s up and moved to Brooklyn NY. She’s loving the change of scenery and wants to hear from anyone who finds themselves in the area. Katie also let me know that she met up with Maira Sheikh, Manasi Raveendran, Sean Ashburn and Greg Ramsower on the OR coast for some muddy hiking back in August. They also managed to swing by the Tillamook Creamery, where they have flights of ice cream. Fantastic, if dangerous for the digestion. Last but not least, I am delighted to present news that blends everyone’s two favorite categories: historical Dr Pepper trivia and Alvin Adjei. The original artesian well that used to make Dr Pepper was filled in after it ran dry in the early 1900s, and thanks to some lost paperwork nobody was sure exactly where it was. That is, until the nonprofit that runs the museum was poking around in the late 1990s and found it. Inside the well were hundreds of thousands of glass bottles tossed in by workers spotting defects. It was filled with everything from tiny shards to intact bottles unsuitable for use due to a small chip or fracture. A portion of the excavated glass is on display in the museum in an enormous shadowbox covering most of a two-story wall. The rest? Purchased in bulk by the mysterious Mr. Adjei. He still hasn’t publicly announced what he plans to do with all that antique glass, but in a recent Q&A session with the Waco Tribune-Herald he allegedly winked at the reporter and warned him not to visit his house barefoot any time soon. Alvin abruptly ended the interview early, walked to his car and sat in the parking lot until the scheduled end time 40 minutes later. That’s all for now! Hello, everyone, and thanks for flipping all the way to another Class Notes section. I only got a few updates on this go-around, and it seems like pretty much all of them happened within about an eight-day stretch of time. Erinn Riley, esteemed emergency medicine physician, got married to Mike Schoeneberger on Aug. 31 in Twin Harbors MN. Maureen McQuillan’s roommate Emily Conron married at the end of September to Russel Forman. Speaking of Maureen, she and her husband, TJ Martinson, had a daughter, Sheila Jay, on Aug. 30. She had a bit of an eventful entry into the world, taking her first flight as a newborn to Vanderbuilt Children’s, but is now thriving at home with her awesome parents. Amy and Sean Meehan, now hopefully far, far away from The Ohio State U, welcomed a daughter as well, Skylar Rose Meehan, on Aug. 23. On a professional update, Grand Patton now leads the estate planning, real estate and business law practices for his namesake law firm, Patton & Buller PLLC. On a personal update, I had the distinct pleasure of running into Eric Wilde on top of a mountain in Gatlinburg TN. It seemed serendipitous at the time, but writing this I’m also realizing it was the weekend of Aug. 30. Turns out it takes a wedding, a baby and a chance encounter in America’s Mountainous Heartland for us to beat A&M. That’s all I got, folks; please send me more updates. I begged for updates and you responded in spades. I received so many responses that I actually had to edit some info down. Of course there was a tech issue, so apologies if I missed anyone – send it in next time directly to daimgrund@yahoo.com. Rick Marsh lives in Gilbert AZ; same house and same company (Intel) as when we graduated. He made me feel very old when he pointed out that his son was in kindergarten when we were at ND and is now a senior in high school! His other kids are in grades 4 to 10, which means he and his wife are closer to an empty nest than to our graduation. Crazy. At the other end, Kelly and Matt High welcomed their first child, Bodey Matthew! They are looking forward to fully brainwashing him on all things Notre Dame. Doug Stauber left IBM after 11 years and joined Tempus AI, a health technology company based in Chicago. They use data and AI to improve patient outcomes for oncology, cardiology, and depression. Kurt Wilson shared that he’s still in the Army. He’s now in Cyber Operations and is an instructor at the US Army Cyber School teaching Defensive Cyberspace Operations. He just lived through Hurricane Helene and is grateful that he and his family survived with minor damage, which cannot be said for many of his immediate neighbors. Jill Inman ’14MBA and Tom Martin ’08, ’13MBA welcomed baby Calvin. They’re hoping Calvin’s eventual first ND football game results in something better than big brother Brady’s first game watching the loss to OSU last year. Luke Langton still enjoys leading an international team at Amazon on the B2B side of the house. He has five kids who are doing everything – learning to drive, getting girlfriends, running, playing football, teasing each other and getting their first Tooth Fairy payments. 14 On the Kindness of Strangers and Friends
The person in your building who holds the door open for you; the person next to you on the flight who tapped your shoulder so you wouldn’t miss drink service; the manager at Kroger who opens her arms in a hug for the teenage checkout line attendant; the friend who answered your phone call; the neighbor who puts out a birdfeeder; the waiter who is patient with the squirmy child at their table; the partner who picked up your favorite treat at the grocery just because they saw it; the friends who sent me flowers in the middle of a really tough week. Kindness exists in a thousand small ways all around us, and I’ve had the great fortune this month to be the recipient of a thousand kindnesses, big and small. I feel like sometimes our ability to be good is overpowering: haven’t you ever been brought to tears by the goodness of those around you? Let yourself be a light to those around you, and let yourself be alight with joy and kindness, not just this season, but always. Speaking of lights, I am delighted (see what I did there?) to share with you the wonderful updates I received this quarter! Thank you to everyone who chimed in! We are starting off strong with a submission straight from Bill LaFleur ’04: Julie LaFleur ’04 and wife Victoria Kay had daughter Margaux Jeanne, 2, and son Etienne Thomas, 8 months, baptized at Damien High School Chapel in La Verne CA on Aug. 31. Julie’s twin brother, Bill, and his wife, Giovanna, excitedly agreed to serve as Margaux Jeanne’s godparents! Congratulations to Julie, Victoria, Margaux and Etienne, and to Bill and Giovanna as well! May God bless these children and their loving family. Another exciting update from Christen (McDonough) and Nicholas Rischard, who welcomed their daughter, Grace Virginia, to the world and their family Aug. 12 in Dallas! Two-year-old Patrick is really enjoying being a big brother, Christen reports. Good job, Patrick! Grace is a lucky girl to have such a wonderful big brother! Congratulations, Christen and Nicholas! Patrick Doyle has a bunch of updates to share! He became an entrepreneur this past spring, starting Switchgear Charging Solutions (switchgearcharging.com), which helps businesses, properties and governments deploy much-needed electric vehicle infrastructure throughout Chicago. In addition, he brought his daughter, Lucy, 4, to her first-ever Notre Dame game this fall, where she watched the Irish stomp Miami of Ohio. Lucy had a grand time while at the game, and while staying with Aunt Colleen, who works in the development office. Patrick and wife Lydia live in the north suburbs of Chicago with Lucy and 2-year-old son Wyatt. It’s only a matter of time until Wyatt makes the trek to campus! Thank you for the update, Patrick! Finally, a beautiful note to share with you all — Molly (Daily) and Patrick Cruitt are expecting a daughter in November. She will probably be here by the time you read this! Molly and Patrick, I hope you read this while snuggling Baby Cruitt in your arms, and that she rests comfortably knowing how absolutely loved she is already. Congratulations to you both! Kevin Hendzel matched for a neuroradiology fellowship with Northwestern Medicine. Joshua Bindon completed orthopedic surgery residency at the U of Massachusetts. Laura Gonzalez married Brad Williams (Indiana ’15) in Cartagena, Colombia, in June. Katie (Bascom) and Peter Sinelnikov welcomed their second child. Carmen Casillas graduated with an MBA from Ohio State U in August. Megan Pelino married Mike Fletcher ’10 at Notre Dame in August. 16 Love You, Mean It!
I hope everyone’s 2024 is wrapping up well. So many good moments, but if I’m being honest, my mental health hasn’t been stellar these last few months. Things happen; I’m getting through it with the help of my people. So, let this be a gentle reminder to check in on your friends, and let them check in on you!! As always, though, I’m proud to share your updates. Jay Carroll works as a technical analyst with RAND Corp. and recently published a report on China’s naval and commercial shipbuilding. Curran Cross started a new role as research and policy analyst fellow at Waypoint Education Partners. Ricardo Dira is an asset management associate with LBX Investments in Atlanta. Abbey (Hubregson) Fennelly started a new job with Kimberly-Clark as senior manager of consumer insights for Huggies. Christopher Frye is pursuing his MBA at NYU while working as senior VP for securities services with CITI. Carolina Guttierez celebrated six years with Home Chef. Katie Haimes works as associate director for innovation and engineering product management with RBC in NY. Mary Haley Schurz joined Nutrafol as senior brand partnerships manager. Adam Haydel is completing his orthopaedics residency at LSU Health NOLA. Olivia Mitchell was promoted to assistant athletics director for ND football operations; South Bend Tribune featured her in an article about female empowerment in ND football. Carolyn Murphy and her father, Joe, a retired NYC Fire Department captain, hosted a tailgate to celebrate her 30th birthday the weekend of the NIU game — don’t talk about the game, but do talk about Carolyn winning ND Alumni’s Tailgate of the Week! Matthew Munhall works at St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie LA as upper-school English teacher, HALO adviser and English department chair. Casey O’Donnell was promoted to director of sales strategy and analytics with Tableau. Tim Olivier is a pain medicine fellow at WVU’s Center for Integrative Pain Management. Lauren Pate is working toward her executive MBA at UVA. Jessica Peck moved to Bamako, Mali, for a position with the International Rescue Committee providing urgent humanitarian assistance for women and children facing systemic violence. Kelsey Sullivan started as senior consultant at Centric Consulting. Justyna Twardowski started med school at Stritch at Loyola. Great job to all our classmates who ran the Chicago Marathon: Lindsay Karcher, Jack Rooney and Lauren Antosz. Congratulations to our classmates chosen for the 2024 Domer Dozen — we’re proud to know you, Andrew Petrisin, Daniel Passon and Dr. Mark Brahier! Andrew developed the federal DoT’s supply chain data-sharing program and was promoted to deputy assistant secretary for multimodal freight. He also helped launch the Keough School’s Integration Lab and taught human-centered design classes. Daniel graduated from Georgetown Law and now works with the DC Affordable Law Firm as an heirs’ property staff attorney. He is one of the first legal aid attorneys to represent clients in probate and estate planning matters, specializing in clearing title to real property to preserve intergenerational wealth. Mark is a third-year internal medicine resident at Duke and combines his Catholic faith with his medical expertise to redefine what it means to provide compassionate care. He aims to continue enhancing patient experience as a clinician-leader in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. 17 Baby, It’s Cold Outside

18 Season’s Greetings
2024 was kind to the Class of 2018, so I’m excited to share with you all another exciting set of updates from our classmates. Alex Bars married his wife, Meghan, at the end of June in Chicago. Claire Kramer and John Cunningham were married June 29 in Kansas City MO. They live in South Bend and both work for the University. Joseph Farley proposed to Amy Smikle in September 2023 alongside St. Mary’s Lake. They celebrated their November 2024 wedding together with their family and friends. Lauries Lames and Milwin Rainey were married Sept. 21 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Anna Levesque married Carrie Olsen in September in Cincinnati. Olivia Colón married Matthew Yuen in Sea Cliff NY on May 11. Mary Grace Henry ’19 and Matthew Joseph Zaccari were married in Chicago on Aug. 10. Katherine Inskeep got engaged to her partner, Andrea, and their wedding is scheduled for fall 2025. Rohit Fonseca married Hannah Pagel of Sumner IA on July 5 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church near Atlanta. The groomsmen included many fellow Domers, and the couple ended up airborne for push-ups as the Victory March played at the reception. The couple will be in Durham NC for the next two years as Rohit pursues an MBA at Duke. Mary (O’Connor) Boltri and her husband, Stephen, welcomed baby boy Jude Stephen Boltri in May. Elise (Ehrenberg) and Joseph Ghirardo welcomed their first child, Theodore Henry Ghirardo, in October 2023 and were excited to celebrate his first birthday and their first year as a family of three this past fall. Dorie Taiclet DiSipio and Joe DiSipio welcomed their daughter Rosemary Kathleen in January 2024. Joe Wells and his wife, Maya, welcomed their first child, Francis Joseph, on May 25. Francis arrived just after Maya graduated law school and just before Joe began PA school. Abigail (Veres) and Connor Colvin welcomed their second little girl in May. Candice Park and Dylan McDonough joyfully welcomed their son, Hugh Daniel McDonough, on Sept. 25. Jeanne (Farnan) and Ken Elkin plan to welcome their fourth child in February before moving to northern OH for employment with Fisher-Titus Medical Center in July. AnnaMaria Arostegui is engaged to Connor Molinar and is chief resident at the Kaiser Napa Solano Family Medicine Residency Program. Dani L’Heureux recently started a new job as director of operations at an employee benefits broker and is enjoying it so far. This past July, Evan Holguin started as the assistant director of planned giving for the Catholic Foundation of Rhode Island, working out of Providence. Maryanne Fisher graduated with the degree of juris doctor from Loyola U Chicago in May. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all. Pedersens welcome Baby-girl Rory! Mora (Connelly) ’18MSA and Zak Pedersen are thrilled to share the birth of their daughter, Rory Jacqueline Pedersen, on Aug. 27. One of the family’s favorite professors from their time on campus, Rev. Eric Zimmer, SJ, performed Rory’s baptism at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in November. Welcome to the ND family, Rory! Wedding bells in Columbus! Jamie Alcott and Chris Simons-Martuccio celebrated their marriage in a beautiful ceremony in Columbus OH on Oct. 12. 19 Making Strides
Our class has been busy making strides in life, love, our careers and even literally across the globe. Here’s a roundup of what some of our fellow Domers have been up to. Oct. 5 was a day of celebrating love for our class. Erica Bosso and Chris Brendza celebrated their wedding day, joined by many familiar faces from the class. Meg and Liam Shepard also tied the knot at Notre Dame, with plenty of friends from our class making the union into a bit of a re-union. On Sept. 7, Sabrina Buckle and Patrick Pauline said “I do” in Portland OR surrounded by friends, family, and of course some Golden Dome spirit. The love continues as engagement bells continue to ring all around the world with our class. Samantha Walker and Matthew Taggart marked a major milestone with their engagement on Aug. 24 in New York City. Their story began five and a half years ago in a Mendoza accounting class—surely there is a joke here about love and debits balancing together, but none of the Class Council representatives did particularly well in accounting classes. Our class also continues to expand outward from South Bend, with careers and adventures taking us far and wide. Monica Allgaier has embraced international living with a move to London, where she’s bringing her Notre Dame work ethic to Deloitte. We wish her all the best in this new chapter! Across the Atlantic and onto the Camino de Santiago, Moira Griffith is walking the famous pilgrimage route with her mom and younger brother. Back on home soil, our classmates have been running toward incredible achievements of their own—literally. Michael Conlon, Dan Hopkinson, Matt Arnason, Michael Gabel and Noah Busk joined forces to take on the Chicago Marathon, proving that friends can really convince you to do anything. Their collective finish is a testament to their strong bond and even stronger peer pressure. Meanwhile, Kelly Wentland took her marathon journey in New York City conquering 26.2 miles. Cheers to all of our class athletes! From marriage to career milestones, to actual marathons, the Class of 2019 continues to thrive and flourish.
