Readers, we’re afraid this image is exactly what you think it is: snow, at Notre Dame, at the end of April.

University photographer Matt Cashore ’94 captured this shot last weekend, during what we hope will be the last snow squall of the season. The flakes fell nearly all day on Saturday, April 27, in a belated April Fool’s joke from Mother Nature that few on campus seemed to appreciate.

If April rain showers bring May flowers, it’s unclear what April snow showers usher in — though, from the weather in our first few May days on campus, thunderstorms are one possibility. Will commencement on May 19 see a repeat of 2016’s near-record lows? Stay tuned.
