John Koltes ’64, senior vice president of Alliance Capital Management L.P., made Irish America magazine’s “Wall Street 50” for 2001. . . . The New York Law Journal profiled attorney Art C. Cody ’97J.D. for his work as a commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve in the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was fulfilling his reserve obligation aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise on September 11, when his two-week duty turned into two months at sea. He and wife Stacy have four children. . . . Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand ’73J.D. sought, but failed to win, the Democratic nomination for the South Bend-area congressional seat held by fellow Democrat Tim Roemer ’81M.A., ’85Ph.D. Roemer had announced he would not seek re-election in 2002. . . . When Thomas P. Foy ’38, ’39J.D. returned to campus last fall for a football game and to talk with ROTC students, the South Bend Tribune related his experiences in World War II, when he survived the infamous Bataan Death March. He was a prisoner of the Japanese for 3½ years. . . . James P. Ghiglieri Jr. ’76, president of Alpha Community Bank in Toluca, Illinois, was elected a director-at-large on the board of the Independent Community Bankers of America, a national trade association representing approximately 5,000 community banks and thrifts. . . . David P. Lee ’61, vice chairman and general counsel of the National Railway Labor Conference, the collective bargaining arm of the railroads, died in December at age 62. He had worked for the conference since 1966, representing railroad interests before Congress and such groups as study commissions examining railroad labor relations. . . . Walt Short ’39, former chief financial officer, executive vice president and vice chairman of the board of USAir, now US Airways, died December 31 at age 83. . . . Martin E. Idzik ’66J.D. was named executive director of the Arts Council of Chautauqua County, New York. . . . Raymond J. Webb ’87 was named president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank, Ohio Valley. The group is part of Fifth Third Bancorp, which has $71 billion in assets and 930 full-service locations. . . . Michael T. Dillon’77 was named president of KeyBank’s northern Indiana district. . . . Paul Liska ’77, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sears, Roebuck and Company, has joined the board of Advance Auto Parts Inc. . . . Attorney Vincent A. Deguc ’72 of Beaverton is running for a judgeship in Oregon’s Washington County. . . . William J. “Butch” Ward ’74, former managing editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer, was appointed vice president, corporate and public affairs, at Independence Blue Cross. . . . Robert J. O’Connor ’69J.D., at-large alderman of Aurora, Illinois, launched his candidacy for representative from the state house’s 83rd District, which includes Aurora and Aurora Township. . . . Miami attorney Robert N. Allen Jr. ’81 was appointed a trustee of the New College of Florida, College of Florida, an independent public honors college located in Sarasota. . . .
