10 Weddings, Births
Connor Kobeski and Chase Jordan were married Sept. 27 in Sister Bay WI. They recently bought a home together and live in Chicago, where Connor works in renewable energy and Chase is an architect. Monserrat Miramontes Resnick and Mark Resnick were married last year in the Basilica. They welcomed their son, Maxwell Nicolas, in February. Lindsay (Williams) Short and husband Ryan welcomed their fifth child, Madelynn Grace, on Nov. 10, 2023. All are doing well and taking full advantage of their Costco membership! George Kiamos and wife Kait welcome their second child, Penelope Kathleen, in August. Lindsay (Ruhling) Menze and husband John welcomed their third child, Hannah Ann, on Aug. 14, joining brother Clifford (age 5). Lindsay and John continue to be advocates for the Children’s Heart Foundation in memory of their late daughter, Alice Dorothy. Lindsay is co-chairing the Chicago Congenital Heart Walk in June, which many fellow ND alumni have attended and supported over the past three years. Matthew Letten has been promoted to partner at Day Pitney LLP. Matthew specializes in complex commercial litigation. Katie and Kevin May welcomed twins, Benjamin and Abigail, in September, joining big sister Charlotte and making them a happy family of five. The twins are healthy and thriving, bringing double the joy and energy to their home. Kevin sold his rental property management business in 2024, is preparing to sell another business and is currently evaluating new opportunities. Life is busier than ever, but the family is embracing this exciting new chapter with love and laughter. I’m looking forward to seeing you all May 29 - June 1 at the Reunion. 11 Spring on the Horizon
As I write this it is −6 degrees in Southwest MI, but I feel comforted by the thought of crocus flowers poking up and the snow having melted by the time this issue comes out. Now for some updates from 2024: In April, Maria Sellers-McGauley ’14MNA obtained her doctorate in leadership studies from Bowling Green State U. While studying, she taught undergraduate leadership courses and served as a graduate assistant to the program. Taylor Tripucka was married to Jen Novelli in Charleston SC on April 6. Nicole (Ashley) Quien and her husband, Miki, welcomed Elena Sophie Quien on May 1. She joins big sister Cece who is 3. Molly Boyle married a wonderful Creighton grad, Nick Sullivan, last July in Chicago. The wedding party included Julie (Rosher) Meier, Claire Brosnihan and Theresa (Yerkes) Morris. Dennis Crowley did a wonderful job articulating the second reading. Molly and Nick now reside in Madison WI and are expecting their first baby in May. Molly is teaching middle school science at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Madison. She can no longer get Tuesday tamales with Dennis Crowley as she could while at Cristo Rey in Chicago, but is loving Madison nonetheless. Kristina Mosco ’12Arch married Joshua Gajdos (Cornell ’10) at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in NYC on Aug. 3. Farley’s Finest all made the trip to celebrate. Ellen McCready was married Sept. 21 to Jasper van der Woude in Driebergen, the Netherlands. Domers in attendance were Ellen’s father, Pat McCready ’80, her brother John McCready ’17, Barron Nydam and McGlinn Hall bridesmaids MaryKate Conboy, Elizabeth (McMahon) Tierney, Jordan (Gamble) Downham and Maeve (Carberry) Willett. Laura and Joe Sheehan welcomed their second baby daughter, Jubilee, on Nov. 3. Lillian (Civantos) Gerken and her husband, Matt, welcomed their fifth child the day after Thanksgiving. Baby Dominic joins big siblings Matthew, James, Andrew and Clare. Lillian spends her days homeschooling their kids in Wheaton IL and the couple see a lot of Domers at their parish, St. John Cantius. Erica (Miller) and Landon Arnold welcomed their second son, Cooper Crosley, in November. Big brother Brody Irons is very proud of his new role! Alexa Doyle and her husband, Armando, moved abroad and have relocated to Valencia, Spain. They are enjoying the expat life. Katie (Dapper) ’12SMC and Mike Dressing welcomed their daughter Emily on Dec. 3, who joins her older siblings Dillon and Hannah. Brooke McDonald and Mike Sobolewski welcomed their first child, Milo Julius Sobolewski, this past December. Thus far, Milo has never experienced ND losing a football game, which is a pretty great world to live in. Mike, I won’t retract this since it was true at the time that I received the update, but at least Milo got to experience ND playing in the National Championship. 13 New Babies
Hello all, I’m writing this column in the shadow of the National Championship game, and I can assure there is nothing more insufferable than living in the same state as OSU right now. But better times ahead, I believe. On to the updates. Chris Palmquist, whose name I never speak aloud, informed me that Ryan Anderson married Adi Bader in Tuscany on October 20 with a large cohort of Duncanites in attendance (Chris Palmquist, Jed Chapin, Chris Podgorski, Ryan Williams, Paul Mundaden, Robert Blume) as well as the effervescent and eternally patient Dagny Nagengast. There were quite a few babies over the past several months. Chris Palmquist told me that Zach Good and his wife, Katie, welcomed their second child, Kieran, who joined big brother Leo. Chris identified them both as future Duncan residents, but I don’t know why he would do that to those kids. Here’s to hoping they become Sorin College graduates. Nick Rowek, renowned Bengal Bouter, and his wife also had another baby, Maya Michele Rowek, born Dec. 1. Patrick “Gerald” Fitzgerald and his wife welcomed their third child, Lillian JoAnn Fitzgerald, on Oct. 9. She was born at 8lb 9oz, which Patrick described as “dangerously low for a Fitzgerald baby.” My wife and I welcomed our second, Elil Ames Champlin, on Oct. 28. He currently uses about 10 Pampers a day, which is dangerously low for a Champlin baby. There are more babies to come as well, as Magan Ngoto and his wife, Lauren, announced the impending arrival of their second child. As far as social news goes, Katie Rose, eclectic world traveler, spent time touring Japan. Ryan Lion, nearing the end of his fellowship, is taking steps to visit space. That’s all I got, folks. I know we were all distracted with football stuff, but I did get a few updates. Ian Galbraith mentioned that he and Brian Kelly were among the lucky ones to brave the cold for the win against Indiana. They escaped with their wallets relatively intact, and no frostbitten toes or fingers. I saw a few of you headed to Atlanta for the game, including Mitchell Johnson and Andrea Sanchez. Kurt Wilson lives in the South, and I don’t know if he made it to Atlanta, but in addition to news previously shared he noted he was promoted to major, and is a finalist for Cyber Center of Excellence instructor of the year (winner not announced as of press time). 14 She Just Wants a Quesadilla
Hi, friends! It’ll be springtime by the time you read this, or at least the days will be longer and the temperatures will tease you about spring, and maybe the bravest of the crocuses will peek through the winter-hardened soil. I’m gonna be honest with you guys — this column isn’t going to be my best work. It’s been a doozy of a past few months and my 1-year-old is currently throwing five kinds of tantrums while she refuses to finish her vegetables, so I’m a little distracted. So maybe I’ll stop talking and let you guys take over! Goodness knows you’re better at this than me! First, I have fabulous news from the Lyons Hall RAs! Cathy Cichon said “I do” to Kellen Goertzen in Colorado Springs on Jan. 4. The festivities were well-attended by Lyonites and Domers alike, and even the CO weather came through for the celebration. If you’ve ever met Cathy, you know her smile shines brighter than the sun off the CO snow, and smiles were in abundance on her beautiful wedding day. Congratulations, Cathy and Kellen! A few months prior, the ever-fabulous Emily Kalish married Daniel Zoia in Ann Arbor MI on Oct. 27. Emily assures us that Notre Dame was well-represented in her “micro-wedding,” with her sister Madeline (Kalish) Hibbard ’15 and brother-in-law Chase Hibbard ’15, along with Emily’s mom, Dr. Julia A. Kalish, who previously taught at Notre Dame. Emily and Daniel, congratulations! I hope the Ann Arbor foliage showed up to celebrate you. Best wishes for a beautiful future together! Next up, Maria (Fahs) Finan ’14, ’16MA and Ben Finan welcomed new son Beau to the family on Nov. 20. His big brother Archie (whose favorite hobby is predicting the score of Notre Dame games) is in love with him. After 10 years, Jordyn (Conover) Oliver wed Blake Oliver in Charleston SC on Aug. 17. Unfortunately, Blake is a Clemson alumnus, but we will try not to hold that against him, so long as he wears enough green next fall! I’m just kidding — Jordyn, congratulations, and Blake, welcome to the Notre Dame family! Lisa (Rague) Hamrick and husband Tim welcomed their second child, Madison Elizabeth, to the world in November. Lisa reports that Madison came just in time to celebrate a very cozy (and sleep-deprived) Thanksgiving. Madison’s big sister, 2.5-year-old Charlotte, is her biggest fan, and they are already proving to be the sweetest sister duo! Congratulations, Lisa and Tim, and congratulations especially to Charlotte, who just gained a lifetime partner in crime! Last but certainly not least, Carolyn Hassett reports that she bought a house and has started a new job at Goldman Sachs. Homeownership and a new gig — that sounds like a great start to the new year! What a great season. I’m so proud of how it went; we’ll get ’em next time! I was at the Orange Bowl with Jack Hanle, Regina (Engel) Mergenthaler and Kara Neumann. We sat a few rows in front of James Bowyer and Mike O’Connor — so many other classmates were there too. I wish I had time to see everyone. Maria (Ianni) Bellm was promoted to director of deals consulting and financial due diligence at PwC. Erin Bishop PRed the Philly Marathon. Nick Boggess started a new position at First Citizens Bank in cybersecurity risk reporting. The YoungND board hosted a bowling night in NYC during the Shamrock Series; Dan Babiak, Rachael Biscocho, Chris Clark, Paul Coletti and Merrick Topping all attended. Also, Paul ran the NYC Marathon, along with Victor Benivedes, Meg (Gallagher) Lake and Tommy Schneeman. Check out Hannah Rose Creative — Hannah Chiarella makes original linoleum block prints and other art, including ND playing cards. Matthew D’Andrade joined the ServiceNow Practice at Slalom as CSM platform architect. Elyse Hight took an amazing trip around New Zealand, centered on her participation in the 2024 Ironman 70.3 World Championship Triathlon. Emily Kruse matched at UCSC in pulmonary/critical care; Diego Valenzuela matched at UChicago in nephrology/critical care. Dominic Lanari started at Monomoy Capital Partners as VP. Alex Lawson joined the UMich tennis coaching staff. Jessica Likens started with TrendyMinds as senior specialist/project manager. Sweat it out with Meredith Lobb Groom at her second BodyRok Studio in Atlanta. Sean Morrison was promoted to director of revenue accounting at Ginkgo Bioworks. I bought Vigie Limoncello as Christmas gifts — Samaria O’Brien Loughran, everyone adored it! David O’Connor started as associate director of business development at Balyasny Asset Management. Lauren Pate serves this year as co-partnerships director at The Black Tech Collective. Graham Pilotte moved to Tampa! Tommy Schneeman fully supports that Jack Guilfoile is getting his ninth shamrock lower-back tattoo, one for each year since graduation. Jacob Schrimpf completed the Ironman FL. Alaciel Torres started as director of influencer marketing at Phaedon, working on the Molson Coors account. Clare Welch joined Meta as integrity program manager in the UK. A special shout-out to the Phoenix Reborn Book Club (est. 2016) who gathered in-person last fall for its inaugural Constitutional Convention. Organized for the purposes of debating and ratifying amendments, the convention was attended by Evie Bauman (founder), Erik Carlson, Kate Broadbent, Teresa Kennedy, Seamus Ronan and Grace Pettey. Steven Goicoechea and Kevin Devivo attended in spirit. Together, the book club has read 34 books over eight years, five countries and countless time zones. Cheers to our engaged couples! The start of 2025 has been tough — a violent attack in New Orleans, devastating fires in Los Angeles, and somewhere down on the list is Notre Dame’s disappointing loss to Ohio State. We are praying for our ND MBA 2016 family and all that you may be going through. We wanted to share some bright spots in this issue. To start, Jeanine and Eric Rice brought Theo (8) and Augie (5) to the championship game in Atlanta. Despite the outcome of the game, fun memories were made! Lauren Russman and Ariston Lowe started this year in their new home of Northern CA with daughter, Finn (1). Finn loves sharing her birthday with Greg Hansen. Some of our favorite London residents, Ashley and Ray Chase, spent the holidays stateside with children, Rhys (2), and their newest addition, Nathan. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of one of our classmates, Christopher Coles, who died Sept. 18. Christopher graduated with a degree in chemical engineering and while on campus was an active member of Bengal Bouts. He is survived by his wife, Isabel; their son, Brayden; and his parents, Christopher and Sandra Coles. Gaby Mezzacappa and Jordan Foster got engaged on a beautiful fall day in Central Park. The couple is looking forward to celebrating with their families and many ND classmates at their wedding in 2026. Stephanie Mellert and Will DuFour were married in picturesque Vero Beach FL on Feb. 8. They were surrounded by a large gathering of their Notre Dame family including the following members of the wedding party: Nicole Mellert ’24, Katie DuFour ’16, Tessa Bangs, Lauren Schmidt, Megan Sharp, Veronica Hawley, Patrick DuFour ’22, Ryan DuFour ’25, Andrew Mellert ’21, Tommy Palmerton, Joseph Farley and Matthew Scian. Kyle Williams, Thomas Franceschi, David Troyer, John McDonough and Luke Mobley served as ushers for Stephanie and Will. Morgan Bily and Garrett Rasmus were married last September in Houston. They were very excited to share the joy of the day with many ND classmates including six groomsmen hailing from Dillon Hall. Rev. Brogan Ryan, CSC, ’08, former rector of Keough Hall, married Katherine Riecke and Christopher Mire on Oct. 26 in their hometown of Covington LA. Katie (Kehoe) and Maloney Foster welcomed their first child, Maeve Kathryn, on Nov. 6. They are excited to move to the Chicago area this summer after Maloney finishes his career in the Navy this June. Nick Rice married his longtime partner, Lauren Spalding, in October. Brynn (Alexander) Padilla and her husband, Daniel Padilla ’17, welcomed their second son, James Patrick, into the world in August. Their eldest, Matthew Reece, loves being a big brother. Molly (Nitschke) ’21MEd and Patrick Shields welcomed their son, Joseph Thomas Shields, on Dec. 27. Michael Finan is proud to announce his new job as press secretary for Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Nicholas Furnari was excited to travel to Atlanta to see Promise Choice renew her wedding vows to Carlos Armendariz. Promise also graduated from law school in May 2024. AnnaMaria Arostegui is engaged to Connor Molinar and they will be married in July. She graduates her family medicine residency in June and will begin practice as an attending family medicine physician. Dearest readers, happy spring! As I write this column I sit next to Dr. Ryan Seay, who couples matched with his wife Aileen ’18 at Cincinnati Children’s. We are working night shift together on a snowy evening in Cincinnati. Our other classmates have been busy as well. Iliana Contreras married Evan Feller ’25MArch at the Basilica in February. She also recently started a new position as the internal engagement program director at the ND Development Office. Kevin Ruiz and his wife, Katherine Cohen, recently married in January. We also celebrate our classmates who find themselves in new roles as parents: Isabella (Penola) and Joe Cook ’20 welcomed their first child in December. Claren (Hesburgh) and Anthony Smyth had baby Antonia Rose in November. Bianca and Michael Aumann welcomed their second child last May. Classmate Luis Fernández is his godfather.
