Father Malloy has been named chair of an NCAA task force that will look at how to stop sports wagering by student athletes.

As part of its work the group will analyze results released in May from an NCAA-commissioned national study. Through anonymous surveys, student athletes at programs of all sizes were asked how often they bet on sports. Almost 35 percent of male student athletes said they had engaged in some type of sports wagering behavior in the past year. The figure was 10 percent for female student athletes.
