12JD Applause

Many thanks to those of you who sent me some news, and greetings to those who just emailed me the word “hello.” A big round of applause for Melesa Freerks, who was named to the Young Professionals Council of the American Health Lawyers Association as a discussion list moderator. If my research is correct, this means she’ll be helping attorneys interested in health law discuss hot topics and trade techniques on the AHLA website. I think it also means she’ll get a shout out on the AHLA website, which is super cool. Brigette Dutra recently adopted a calico cat named Prudence from the Pasadena SPCA. I recently started working as the supervising attorney of the DePaul College of Law’s Domestic Violence Courthouse Pilot Program. It’s a great job, but I’m a little nervous about having a job as a “supervising attorney” without having previously held a job as a “supervised attorney.” In our last piece of newsworthy tidbits, Alvin Adjei accepted a position at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as an ADA. Alvin is excited about the new position and assures me that he will still have time to devote to his amateur woodworking. — James Champlin; jchampli@alumni.nd.edu

Hyeja and Joseph Ganahl welcomed their fifth son, James David, on July 28, right before Joseph sat for the Maryland Bar. John Gerardi wed Holly Klejeski on May 25 in South Bend. Many of you know Holly from her time behind the circulation desk at our own Kresge Law Library. The couple will move to Chicopee MA, where John will be an associate for Egan, Flanagan, and Cohen in Springfield. Will Hendrick married Karen Achilles on June 15 in Geneva NY. Will and Karen will practice tax law in Chicago. Kevin Landino married Jennifer Phelan on May 31. Mike Claus’ dancing at the reception was incendiary. The Landinos will be living in Nashville to be closer to Taylor Swift. Michael Patlan appeared before the US Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in June. Michael wrote two briefs and delivered the oral argument on behalf of an indigent defendant through the NDLS moot court program. Amanda and Adam Mathews were awaiting the birth of their first daughter, Rachael Elizabeth, due on Sept. 2. Sam Sarofeen was named to the board of directors for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and will be joining IBM as an in-house counselor.
