00 Fall Fun
Happy fall, and happy football season! Hopefully your weekends are full of game watches, relaxation and raking leaves. Or, if your life is like mine, the weekends are busier than the work week, with fall ball, soccer games and the start of hockey season. The leaves don’t get raked as often as they should in my yard. Either way, I hope fun plans are also on your calendar. Christine (Hughes) Thompson is definitely busy as she just accepted the vice president role of the ND Club of San Francisco Bay Area. It is one of the biggest clubs in the country, so she will have lots of work and fun ahead! Christine and Matt continue to live in the Bay with their two kids, Alexis (age 15) and Kyle (age 10), and will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this October. In January, Matt took Christine’s dad, Ernie Hughes ’78, and her brother to the Notre Dame National Championship game for his 70th birthday. The last time Ernie was at this prime time game was his own, as starting right guard for the 1977 National Championship team. Our class also had some football fun at the ND vs. Texas A&M game class tailgate. Thank you to all who came, it was a great turnout. Special thanks go out to Nicole (Moye) Durham, Melissa (Tacey) Goodwin, Alicia Coronas and Kelly Orsi for hosting, and Justin Liu for donating parking passes. When donating to Notre Dame, please keep in mind that you can earmark your donation to the Class of 2000 to help fund tailgates like this, the hospitality room at Reunions and other class activities. I hope you guys continue to enjoy your fall, and you can catch me at the hockey rink because Lord knows I won’t be raking my leaves! Don’t forget to send me your news, updates and brags. I would love to hear from you! — Laurie (Strotman) O’Malley; ndbug3@hotmail.com
00MBA Football Opportunity
Carol Anderson chaired the Reunion committee, and wrote with a recap on the event: May 2025 marked the 25th year since the MBA Class of 2000 graduated from the University of Notre Dame. In these 25 years, our MBA class has experienced many accomplishments, gains, successes and losses, with significant career accomplishments, growing families, lost loved ones, illnesses and blessed recoveries, and even many mini-reunions across the country to network, socialize and enjoy ND sports. What we had never done as a class was return to campus for an official ND Alumni Association Reunion. This past May, we changed that! Twenty-five classmates plus family members gathered on campus from across the United States and internationally, with Jose Portillo coming in from San Salvador, El Salvador, to Sucheth Davuluri traveling the farthest all the way from Hyderabad, India. We were blessed to host a class Mass led by Rev. Ollie Williams, CSC, who was often the celebrant for our weekly class Masses while we were in the MBA program. We held our class dinner in the famed Legends, where we had spent many a TGIT from 1998 to 2000, and where each attendee at the dinner shared his/her personal updates. We quickly learned that no one’s experience was entirely foreign, as so many had very similar life events we could relate to and empathize with. That enhanced our bonds even more and made the last 25 years feel much shorter than a quarter century. Together we toured campus, which has expanded immensely, while many of us braved dorm life for Reunion. We explored the new Raclin Museum, joined the all-class fun in the Refreshment Hub on DeBartolo Quad in perfect weather, snuck in our individual Class of 2000 photo before the general “MBA Graduates” call time, enjoyed dinner on the floor of the hockey/fencing rink, joined the entire reunion class for exceptional food varieties at breakfast and lunch in North Dining Hall, celebrated the award program and all-class Mass led by newly inaugurated President Rev. Robert Dowd, CSC, ’87 and all the former University presidents still on campus. We rocked a night out at the “swanky” Linebacker Lounge, a late night at Rohr’s in the Morris Inn, and thoroughly enjoyed the incredible hospitality of the Alumni Association, University community and complimentary shuttle/golf cart service providers the entire long weekend. Our team’s greatest accomplishment was designing and delivering one of only 10 plenary sessions offered the entire weekend, “ND Network for Life: Value & Impact 2.0.” Ours was the most diverse panel and the only one led by a graduate alumni class. Thank you to Tina Villalobos Mitiguy (moderator), John Casserly, Sucheth Davuluri and Carol Anderson (panelists) for sharing the ways they have remained connected to and served the University and our peers over the last 25 years and into the future. Thank you to all who attended our first official class reunion: Albano Garcia (and his beloved), April Whitfield (RC), Carol D. Anderson (RC), Georgette Leonard (RC), Hernan Tejeda, Jason Young, Jeane Stewart (and her beloved), John Casserly (RC), Jose Portillo (RC), Kshitij Shah (RC), Liberty Blunier (RC) (and her beloved and daughter), Matt Baumel, Maureen McDonnell, Michael McComb (and his beloved), Roman Mrozek, Roxy Maldonado Young, Steven Cieckiewicz, Sucheth Davuluri (RC), Tim Conlon (and his beloved), Tina Villalobos Mitiguy (RC), Torbin Fuller, Wendy Cooling (RC), Yuko Kikkawa, and our very own Brian Lohr (RC). Thank you to all those who served on the Reunion Committee who attended Reunion, along with Aimei Zhong (RC), Brendon Scott (RC), Jeanine Skendzel (RC), and Luis Fasano (RC) who served but were unable to attend. Football Gathering! If you were not able to make the summer Reunion, or if you just want another opportunity to reconnect, 85 of us will be gathering in South Bend for the ND-USC game on Oct. 18. For those of you who purchased tickets, Mike McDaniel will be sending them to you as soon as they arrive. For those who need more tickets, or for those who didn’t make the initial deadline but would still like to attend, below are our seat assignments so you can find tickets near us on the open market. Sec. 104, Row 23, Seats 19-36; Sec. 104, Row 24, Seats 1-36; Sec. 104, Row 25, Seats 4-34. See you in October! 03JD Congrats Tom
Thomas Galvin was re-elected to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in AZ last November. Tom was elected by his colleagues in January to be chairman of the board, leading a county of 4.5 million people, the fourth largest in the United States. Tom, a conservative Republican, attracted national attention by standing up to segments of his political party who made baseless accusations of election fraud in previous election cycles. Tom stood up for the rule of law and was re-elected by his constituents with a 14-point margin. He continues to practice law as a partner at Rose Law Group. 04 Fall Updates
Sean MacCready joined Engineering Tomorrow this year to launch their development department and corporate partnership programs. He’s grateful to Dennis Barrett, whose outreach inviting Sean to talk with Engineering Tomorrow’s executive director, Megan (Thompson) Barrett ’03, about how to recruit for the role ultimately led to Sean joining the Engineering Tomorrow team. Dennis and Megan welcomed John Daniel Barrett to their family on March 16. Older sisters Ellie (9), Kate (7) and Nell (5) are enchanted with their baby brother and have been wonderful helpers. The Barrett family lives in Bethesda MD, where Dennis is a partner with the law firm of Schaner & Lubitz PLLC, which specializes in representing nonprofit foundations, particularly in the rare disease space. Megan is completing her first year as the executive director of Engineering Tomorrow. Engineering Tomorrow provides no-cost engineering labs to high schools and introduces students to professional engineers and college mentors across the country. 04MBA With Heavy Heart
It is with a heavy heart that I am including the obituary for our classmate and friend Ryan Webb. Ryan passed away June 21 in Atlanta at the age of 50. Ryan lived a life full of curiosity, compassion and quiet strength. He left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him through his sharp intellect, thoughtful heart and unforgettable sense of humor. Ryan married Brandi Gard, and together they had two daughters, Kierstyn and Kaija. He loved them both deeply and was endlessly proud of them. He was a cancer survivor who faced multiple serious health challenges in recent years including open-heart surgery earlier this year and passed away after suffering a catastrophic stroke. A die-hard Utah Utes fan, Ryan bled red and lived for game days. He followed the Utes with passion and loyalty that never faded. In remembrance of Ryan, Go Utes! — Harry Howisen; hhowisen@gmail.com

05 It Was 20 Years Ago Today
It was wonderful to be back on campus and see so many classmates for our 20-year reunion at the end of May. I don’t have the column space to list all the folks who joined us, but suffice it to say our turnout was impressive! Pete Gaffney sent the following note: “Hard to believe that our class celebrated 20 years since graduation. It was wonderful to catch up with classmates at the Class of 2005 dinner at Foley’s in the football stadium. Among the classmates I saw: Dr. Jill (Joehl) Sims, Dr. Erica Martin, Brian Shula, Dolores Diaz and Martha (Fulcher) Roman. In other news, on June 22, my wife, Christine, and I welcomed our fifth child, Evelyn Renee. She is the highlight of all our summers, most especially with her 6-year-old sister Noelle, who finally has a sister!” I want to acknowledge a number of our classmates who helped make the Reunion experience extra special. Thank you to our Reunion Committee for their time and dedication: Andrea Brault, Joanna Cornwell, Jacqueline Pimentel-Gannon, Nicole Phillips, Annie Envall-Letowski, Chris Villani, Deanna Sortino (who also designed our class merch and yearbook photo buttons!) and Beth (Duran) Thomas (who is also our class liaison for the Alumni Association). Thank you to Dr. Erica Bove and Love and Science (loveandsciencefertility.com) for sponsoring our class dinner! And thank you to our class officers who have helped to plan our reunions and served our class for the past 20 years: Darrell Scott, Lauren (Flynn) Craft, Kristin Boyd and Tom Raaf. I’m already looking forward to our 25-year Reunion. Please keep your updates coming in the meantime! — Caroline Meehan; ndclassnotes05@gmail.com

05JD Shining Bright
In New York City, classmates continue to shine as bright as the big city’s lights. Alex Lorenzo serves as a partner at Alston & Bird, where he concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation, with a particular focus on financial services and insurance coverage litigation. Alex has extensive experience representing financial institutions in disputes arising from their roles in securitized transactions. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in trials, appeals, arbitrations and pre-litigation counseling matters, including as lead counsel to numerous US and foreign entities in federal and state courts throughout the country. Marisa Lorenzo leads Kelley Drye’s pro bono efforts and manages firmwide award-winning pro bono initiatives. Prior to her current role, Marisa was a litigation partner focused on investigations, enforcement actions and lawsuits involving the communications industry. She also represented clients in a variety of industries in all phases of complex federal and state commercial litigation, including trials, appeals, arbitration and mediation proceedings. Other classmates have taken on new challenges. Meghan (Rhatigan) Holmes took on a new role at Thermo FisherScientific at the end of 2023. She became lead counsel, viral vector services and advanced therapies in Boston. In May, Adam Townshend finished up a 15-year term of service as an assistant US attorney in the Western District of MI. He joined Warner Norcross + Judd in Grand Rapids MI as a partner focusing on complex litigation, criminal defense, health care, and government and internal investigations. Classmates also continue to serve our country with honor and conviction. In Colorado Springs, Dom Angiollo was promoted to colonel in the Air Force Reserve during a ceremony in July. The event was filled with family and friends alike, including his niece, Carolyn Angiollo, who read an invocation that dedicated the ceremony to those well-qualified and dedicated servicemembers — past, present and future — who have been denied the opportunity for promotion or service merely because of their sex, race, sexual orientation or gender identity. Dom’s father-in-law (a retired lieutenant colonel) was invited to give him his first salute as a colonel. The ceremony finished with the “Air Force Song” and, of course, the “Notre Dame Victory March.” On the civilian side, Dom serves as the director of student and faculty support at the US Air Force Academy. Meanwhile, former NM state District Court and Court of Appeals judge Daniel Gallegos graduated from Georgetown U Law Center in May with an LL.M. in national security law. He was selected for promotion to commander in the US Navy JAG Corps Reserve. His two-year mobilization to the Pentagon and Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy ended in July, and he has returned to private practice at Harrison & Hart LLC in Albuquerque NM, until the next challenge arises. As for me, after nearly 20 years in practice, I finally had the privilege to co-counsel a matter with an old friend and trial advocacy teammate, Paul Harris of Taft Stettinius, on a trade secret and restrictive covenant matter across multiple jurisdictions. with successful results for the client. Greetings, fellow classmates of 2006! I would love to include your stories, professional, educational and personal, in Notre Dame Magazine and keep our extended family up-to-date on our success and challenges! So please contact me with your latest and greatest news. As for Councilman Lloyd, it’s been a challenging year in the Town of Herndon, getting through the FY 2026 budget cycle, capital planning for the next decade and a host of issues facing our town in the coming years. In addition, I currently am in possession of the 10th dog I have rescued out of Wyoming County WV this year. CJ spent 10 days at the vet, had surgery and is recovering in my home as he moves into the foster-forever home pipeline. 07 Workplace Honors
Evelyn D’Angelo has joined Fox Rothschild in NY as counsel in the real estate department. Evelyn primarily focuses her practice on providing legal advice to condominium and cooperative boards and homeowners’ associations on a full range of operational and governance issues. She earned her JD from Brooklyn Law School and her MA from Bowling Green U and is currently an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School. She is also an active member of the NYC Bar Association Housing & Urban Development Committee. Congratulations, Evelyn! Ryan Ricketts was selected as a 2025 Microsoft Pinnacle Award winner. An extremely prestigious honor, Ryan was one of 43 employees selected out of over 228,000 for contributing transformational impact while also demonstrating outstanding leadership and values. He was the sole recipient from marketing. Also, a little behind the scenes: Ryan shot the photos and designed the campaign materials for your 2007 Class Officers, so we’ve been well aware of his genius for years. Bravo, Ryan! 08 Wedding Bells
Can you feel it? The crisp freshness in the air? Fall has arrived and with it, baby Kevin (no, not baby-faced Kevin Carrier). Maura Short ’09, ’12JD and Joey Valdivia ’08, ’13JD welcomed Kevin John in May, joining brother J.J. (5) and sister Elise (3). Doug Schlarman is wedded and the wedding vibe felt similar to Finnegan’s in spring 2008: steamy with no rhythm but many loud noises. Laura (Campochiaro) and Dave Sena shared a cab to the wedding with Pat O’Brien: The shuttle forgot about the Fairfield Inn. Kate (Dresser) Winnick provided poignant guidance on Doug’s intricacies. Analisa Arizpe put her iPod down (she was listening to Hinder) to serve in the wedding party. Cassie Belek (who is now a fabulous Chicago mother) could not attend but FaceTimed many during the ceremony. Christina Lee attended; her husband is stunning, like Maggie Wickett-Altier’s husband. Other attendees included Magda (Karol) Villela, Kate (Dresser) Winnick, Jenna Rogers, Colin Dunn, Ellen Fitzsimmons-Craft, Jess Zarra, Sarah Geisman and Regina Gesicki. Those who attended Doug’s wedding have enjoyed the classiest mobile bathroom experience. Truly. Ever. Brian Sullivan bought a GE Profile icemaker for small cubed ice, believing that the smaller cubes enhance the hydration experience. Matt “Spicy” Mattare disagrees, preferring larger cubes. Drew Whiting falls on the larger cube carousel, reasoning that larger cubes create less melted water in the drink. Dr. Andrew Zeiser does not like ice. Will Kearney was not at the Windy City Smokeout in July, but Pat McInerney took his kids. There, he saw Tom Bufalino and Mike Reilly, who somehow both conned their way into grilling meats. These three short kings took a photo together holding up the Fisher Hall “F.” Julia (Vogelheim) Hudac and Kelsey (Montalto) Klupchak are excited to announce that their ACE roommate, Kelly Foyle ’10MEd, will wed Matt next summer. Folks, you are going to want to score an invitation to this Chicago wedding. In the running for groomsmen (or bridesmen) are Kelly’s former ACE roommates: former Hope College football player George Klupchak ’10MEd, Francisco Castillo-Fierro ’10MEd and Pat O’Brien. There is zero chance Andrew Zeiser and Alan Bauer will be invited. But there is a possibility that Tim Will ’10MEd, John Biddle, Megan O’Hara, Dr. Cassie Brownell ’10MEd and Mike O’Connor make the list. In August, Chris Cugliari ’10 married Kristine. Attendees included Chris; Kristine; Jesse Brawer; Hunter “Muffin” Land and his wife, Dr. Anna Land ’09 (Anna rejected a date request from Jesse in spring 2006 — smart); Nicole (Koors) ’09 and Pat Burns; Mark Weber ’09; and many more. The wedding is four weeks after publication, but we imagine the wedding will resemble Doug’s: steamy with no rhythm but many loud noises. Jesse will call Mike Lee ’09 and Lawrence Sullivan, who were invited but excused themselves for baseless reasons, and say deeply hurtful words. Nobody will call Pat Ryan. Congratulations, Chris. Many never thought you would make it to the wedding aisle. Sometimes, difficult news hits our class too soon. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear classmate Jiyoon Sim. Jiyoon was a former resident of McGlinn Hall and an attorney in Seoul. Please keep Jiyoon’s parents and all of her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
