2010s

10 Congrats to Allie and Joe

Allie Paharik and Joe Essner ’03 welcomed their third child, John Michael Essner, on Feb. 16. So far, he is a classic laid-back third child, and is very loved by his two big sisters. Allie, Joe and family are living in St. Louis MO, where Joe is an engineering manager for a defense contractor and Allie is a clinical trial scientist at bioMérieux. It was wonderful to see many of you at Reunion in June. Save the date for our 20th Reunion in the summer of 2030! If you couldn’t make it to Reunion, send an update to let your classmates know what you’re up to. — Matt Molloy; ndclass2010@gmail.com

11 Newest Fans Make Football Debuts

Melissa Kaduck welcomed her son Mack (Matthew) on Feb. 11 in Pittsburgh. His godmother is Hillary (Heffernan) Peiffer, Melissa’s best friend of over 20 years — they lived closer to each other growing up in Pittsburgh than when Melissa was in PW and Hillary was in Howard! Mack took his first trip to Notre Dame in July to spend a few days with Laura (Bradley) Whitehill, Kari (Johnson) Maas, Leslie (Allen) and Charlie Nejedly, Caitlin (Pulte) and Kevin Doyle, Lauren Hemington (soon-to-be Spirz), Kaitlin (Robinson) and John Lalor, plus 13 kids between them, which does not count the four kids staying home and the one on the way, thanks to Lauren Hemington! Kelly (Forster) and Dan Jacobs welcomed their third child, Nicholas Peter, this past December in Chicago. Big sibs Isabella (6) and Julian (3) are already teaching Nico the fight song. Amanda and Adam Doster welcomed their daughter Molly Joan Doster on May 24. Look for Molly to make her ND football debut at the Purdue game this fall. Kelly and John Kramb welcomed their fifth child, Owen William Kramb, in May. In November, they will leave Japan after two and a half years and move to Salisbury, UK. C. Danielle Tan and her husband, Russell Simpson, welcomed their first child, Rowan, on May 2. Their big, beautiful boy was born 9 pounds, 5 ounces, 22 inches long and with one dimple. Claire (Streitman) and Mike Rabon welcomed their third child, Teddy, on May 5. Big brother Tripp and big sister Lucy love the new addition (as do their parents and their four-legged child, Maggie). Maria Sellers-McGauley ’11, ’14MNA and AJ McGauley joyfully welcomed their first child, Filomena Anne, in June. Erin Ramelb and Teddy Schaefer are so happy to announce the arrival of their daughter Sophie Ramelb Schaefer on Father’s Day, June 15! Amy Grinsteinner has been named assistant dean for the School of Education at Dickinson State U in ND. Claire Brosnihan and her family moved to her husband’s hometown of Modena, Italy. She is continuing her work on global agricultural development and supporting smallholder farmers in the nonprofit sector, while finishing her MSc in global food security and nutrition at the U of Edinburgh, and trying to learn enough Italian to order her favorite gelato flavors. Kristen and Mark Tancredi welcomed Julian Joseph to their family this year. Big sister Sophia and big brother Luke are excited and generous with their hugs. Caitlin Burke and Padraic Canavan were married May 17 at St. Anne in Barrington IL, with her sisters Clare Burke ’14 and Molly (Burke) Calcutt ’15 serving as maids of honor, and her cousin Jimmy Twist ’23 serving as a groomsman. In addition to many family Domers present, fellow Farley Girls Abigail (Jackson) Farrelly, Lucy Geglio, Emily Murphy, Rachel Roseberry, Marisa Truong (and Robyn Grant McCardel from afar!) were in attendance, as well as Sarah Weiler, Codi (Limm) Murphy and James Schwarber. James Zumot married his fiery Cuban wife, Bernadette Gerrity, in the confines of the historic Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton NY on June 28, by Rev. John McKinney of Marion IN. Jimmy stood with a signature mischievous confidence while draped in a tux that’d make Jack Donaghy blush and flanked by ND roommates/groomsmen/fashion icons Brian Dondanville and Rob Morgan while Bernadette floated from the narthex to the altar, with a train longer than the South Shore. The ceremony drew the admiration of seraphim, complete with a solo rendition of Schubert’s “Ave Maria” by Kyle Collins ’12, and proceeded a gaiety set in the sprawling gardens of the Long House at golden (dome) hour. Other notable Domers joining the celebration include Matt Perron, Laura (Verwilst) Perron ’10, Seth Sutton ’10, Jason Holman, Rob Ryan ’10, Michael Browder, Kyle Welch, Alex Gannon and Daniel Palmer ’12. What a beautifully written summary by the groomsmen themselves. Congrats to all and I hope to run into some of you on campus this football season! — Caitlin (Burke) Canavan; class11@nd.edu

11JD Lucky Kid

Blake Rambo and Sean Cullen ’08 welcomed Caroline Rose Cullen-Rambo on June 27 at 6 pounds, 13 ounces. She is the luckiest girl in the world … but seriously I mean that; I for one am so jealous of her parents. Lauren Sharkey Byam ’08, ’11JD, Erin Rogozinski ’08, ’11JD, Samantha Winter McAlpin and Annie Weir went off the grid with a girls weekend in Park City. The trip had everything: danger — an intense hike among the lakes; death-defying feats — chairlifts to the clouds; drama — rental car keys that went AWOL for 16 hours; and detective skills — a full retracing of our steps including back to an elevation spectator point led to the recovery of said keys before a Hertz tow truck of shame needed to be called. Golden girls get in line. Ryan Finlen ’06, ’11JD sees other classmates around town. Watch out. To catfish you into emailing me — send me your guesses on who would be most likely to be a TikTok star if TikTok was around during law school for us. — Lauren Sharkey Byam; shark.byam@gmail.com

13 The Better Champlin Column

Hello everyone and thanks for tuning to another installment of class updates. We’ve actually got quite a few submissions this time around, so I won’t waste any words on that two-bit hack above me. Vickie (Jankoski) Mayne emailed me that Maddie (Smierciak) Horan and her husband, Jack, welcomed a child, Mary Elizabeth Horan, back in November 2024. Happy almost first birthday, Mary! Matt Lang and his wife Ally (Weaver) Lang ’15 had a baby boy, Andrew Christopher Lang, in January. Gotta respect when you use a top-tier name as the middle name. And burying the lead, Vickie signed off her email letting me know that she and her husband, Kip Mayne ’11, had a son as well, Corbin David Mayne, in March. Colleen Bailey-Knapke also sent me the news of enough kids to fill up St. Ed’s, except apparently they’re all Duncan and Pangborn (rip). Chelsea (Schmitt) Ferris and her husband, Nikhil, welcomed their son Felix in July. Rob Piscatelli and his wife, Hannah, welcomed their daughter Elsie in September. Chrissie (Diebold) Shearn and her husband, David, had twins, Charlie and Izzie, to join their two older siblings (for a harrowing four under 4) in November. Colleen and her husband, Kyle, had their fourth child as well, Charlie, for an also impressive four under 5 in December. I had two under 2 and I felt like I didn’t know what planet I was on most days. Jacque Patz and Leo DiPiero had their daughter Nicolette back in January to start the new year off on a high note. Brian Dakin and his wife, Jamy, also started the year off strong, welcoming their first child, Brendan. In June Garret Ward and his wife, Ellen, had their son, Joel. I’m not sure what internal timer all those Duncanites and Pangborndiegans set off 12 years ago, but kudos to them all for holding to it. Alexa (Wilson) Pantos and her husband, Alex, welcomed their son, James, back in April. Ted Spinelli (famed Sorin quarterback) and his wife, Brittany, welcomed their daughter Riley Kathyrn Spinelli in May. Fellow Sorinian Gabe Delatte and his wife, Emily, had their third child, Leo Joseph, in July. After years of babysitting Andrew McKernan down in New Orleans, Gabe tells me he was ready to have another kid, stating “at least with a newborn I don’t have to jump up to burp them.” On to weddings, there was a veritable who’s who of Sorin alumni and cheerleaders at the wedding of David Jones and Amanda Mikolajczak. In attendance was famed leprechaun Bryce Burton, hanging up the ESPN commercials for work at Google. Anne Robles, another member of that 2013 cheerleading team, was also in attendance. Tom Nevins Oliver, Chris Mork, Joe Wirth, Ryan Lion, Andrew McKernan, Dom Lucero, Kyle Kober, Ryan Robinson and Max Maier were all in attendance to watch David marry way out of his league. I was invited “strictly with journalist credentials.” Oh and Bobby Shields was in attendance I guess. Ryan Lion, a few weeks later, got engaged to Hayley Arceneaux (famed astronaut and author) while on vacation in Kenya. Our classmate marrying an astronaut, kenya believe it? Finally, I’d like to issue a correction to the previous column. Joanna (Sullivan) Full filled in some of the details of her daughter. She and her husband, Mark, welcomed Eliza Full in January, not February. So much for those journalism credentials David gave me. Well, thank you all for sending updates! Cheers, — Chris Champlin; nd2013updates@gmail.com

13MBA Happy News

I’m excited to pass along that Elie El-Zammar and his wife, Ashley, welcomed a baby girl to their family. Isabella Zammar was born on June 2. All are doing well. Patrick Murphy married Keegan Warren in 2024. He was happy to share that they celebrated their wedding with several close friends from the MBA Class of 2013, and the signature drink featured Indiana Whiskey. They moved to Dallas-Fort Worth for Keegan’s job with Texas A&M’s Institute for Healthcare Access. In June Patrick accepted the role of president of the Sierra Club, the nation’s oldest and highest-profile environmental NGO. I hope to hear from more of you next time! The next updates are due to me by Oct. 18. Please pass along anything — I know people like to hear what’s happening with others. — Nick Imgrund; 314-775-7364; daimgrund@yahoo.com

13JD Back From Sleep Deprivation Hiatus

Dear classmates, my last Class Note was in the Autumn 2024 issue. Apologies for the delay. In related news, Caroline and I welcomed Jack Joseph Blair last September and he is still not sleeping. If you have any hot tips on sleep training, please email me at the address below. I have given up hope that the situation will change before the date of publication. At least he’s cute. We had him baptized at the Log Chapel by Father Dailey, which I presume means free tuition when he comes of age. I also started a position as a partner at Goldberg Segalla LLP in May, where I focus my practice on products liability defense. Adam Mathews announces the birth of Rosemary Cabrini Mathews. Adam also appeared before SCOTUS and went to oral argument as amicus in Medica v. PPSA. I could have sworn someone else sent me an update, but I checked my texts, DMs and emails and couldn’t find it. If you’re reading this and are disappointed: just resend and it will be perfectly cromulent. — Alex Blair; apblair@gmail.com

14 Place Your Bets

In an unprecedented move, I am going to start off this column with some predictions. Buckle up, you guys — there’s going to be some hot takes here. First prediction: undefeated football season, National Championship, obviously. Second prediction: Science proves that you can eat as much cheese as you want and it’s fine and actually it’s quite good for you. Third: Everyone who reads this column will immediately send me a picture of their dog or cat or plant or baby or whatever is the cutest thing in their house. Fourth: Taylor Swift will release TS12 … like soon. I need something to clown for. Fifth: They finally build a cross-OH rail to connect the three OH cities. Public transportation and infrastructure please!! High hopes? Crazy dreams? Maybe! But hey — if any of them come true, you read it here first! And guess what else you read here first — some wonderful updates! First off, I have the distinct pleasure of announcing that Lauren (Krumdick) Ateyeh and her husband, Tripp Ateyeh, welcomed a sweet baby girl in April! Lauren and Tripp couldn’t be more in love with little Aubrey, and we are sure that everyone who meets her will feel the same way! Congratulations, Lauren and Tripp! Next, Becca (Passarelli) Heiden and her husband, Brendan Heiden, were thrilled to welcome Emma Kelcey to the Notre Dame family on April 22, 2024. Emma just turned 1 and will attend her first Notre Dame game this fall! Emma, good luck, and don’t stress about getting the arm movements exactly right the first time for the Celtic Chant — we all mess it up sometimes! Finally, Courtney (Taylor) Hissa and Donnie Hissa welcomed Jasper Pierce to their family on Jan. 21. Big brother Sebastian, who turned 3 in July, loves making his baby brother laugh. Courtney and Donnie, what a sweet update to share — thank you so much! Jasper is a lucky boy! That wraps it up for this edition’s updates — great news from great people, and it is my honor and privilege to be the one to share it with you! Until next time, lots of love. — Lizzie (Helpling) Trebbien; ehelplin@alumni.nd.edu

19 Fall Updates

It’s been a big year for the Class of 2019, filled with weddings, engagements, academic milestones — and the celebration of enduring Notre Dame bonds. Lauren Tucker married Albert Aguilera Dangla this June in the coastal town of Arenys de Mar, Spain. Patrick Falvey tied the knot with Emily Panyard on May 31 in Washington DC. As the former ND Marching Band president, Patrick made sure the “Victory March” rang out during the festivities. Caitlin Rosswurm married Liam Purcell on June 21 at none other than the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Stephen Kabele and Camille Zyniewicz said “I do” Aug. 16 in South Bend — forever tying their love story to the place where it began. Andy Lessard and Margaret Short wedded on Aug. 23. Claire Boyce also recently got engaged to Scott Meyer — congratulations to the happy couple! On the academic front, Megan Guynes graduated with her master’s in library science from the U of North Texas this May and will begin her Ph.D. in history at UNT this August. Stephen Kabele, in addition to his upcoming wedding, also completed his MBA at Notre Dame — officially joining the MBA Class of 2025. Go Irish, twice over! A reminder to follow @youngndalumni on Instagram and reach out to the ND Alumni Club in your hometown to stay engaged with the many programs tailored to young alumni. Lastly, it is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic passing of our classmate Daniel Brennan, who passed away in June in NJ. Dan was a beloved member of our Notre Dame community — full of joy, warmth and generosity — and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers. — Michael Conlon, Dan Hopkinson, Jane Driano and Eddie Griesedieck; classof2019@alumni.nd.edu
