After the race he wrote, “The city of Boston, and all of the cities along the race route, race officials, volunteers, and spectators made the experience everything I’d dreamed it would be. It was a perfect race day, marred by the tragedy of the bombings, however, in the end, I still felt very fortunate to have been able to take part in the historic race and that my family and friends were safe and secure well before the attacks took place.” Susan Brichler Trujillo met up with Finn Pressly for dinner in Chicago and updated him on her son’s continued domination of the Phoenix youth soccer scene. Dan Parziale continues to do inspiring work with Aid Still Required (AidStillRequired.org), a nonprofit based in Los Angeles. ASR is working to shift the paradigm of disaster relief, from a focus on immediate care to a longer-term approach, one based on the creation of sustainable, environmentally friendly, community specific programs that engender and encourage self-sufficiency. Dan traveled to Haiti in May for 18 days as part of a three-person team assessing the needs and growth strategies of local partner programs. This includes expanding a trauma therapy program for victims of rape and PTSD, adding programming and staff at two orphanages that ASR believes are effective in helping children stay in school and prepare themselves for life beyond the orphanage, and creating jobs via a major tree reforestation project in partnership with CODEP. If you are interested in learning how you can help, please contact Dan at danparziale@gmail.com. On May 4, Matt Kinsella celebrated his 30th birthday at Professor Thom’s in the East Village of Manhattan. Close friend and former roommate Matt Englehardt was disappointed to miss the party, but seeing the Oracle of Omaha himself at the Berkshire Hathaway Investor Day was a real treat. As if Kinchella 2013 wasn’t enough excitement for one month, Brent D’Amico also turned 30 in May. The end of his 20s isn’t enough to slow Brent down though; he has been busy this spring gearing up for his second summer in the Hamptons. Brent was recently spotted at the Brooks Brothers in Union Square checking out this season’s button downs and board shorts, as well as hitting a double session up the street at Soul Cycle. Come July 4, he’ll be dressed to impress at Cyril’s after his return to glory on the beach volleyball court. In news of my own, I’m heading to Boston College this fall to pursue a master’s degree in clinical social work. I will dearly miss DC roommates Katie Guida and Peter Hadley, but am excited for this new opportunity. My sister, a “Double Eagle,” and several others have questioned my allegiance to ND given the transition, but you have it in writing and know it well for yourselves: our hearts forever love thee Notre Dame. Go Irish. See you at Reunion. — Megan O’Hara; mnohara6@gmail.com
