00 Adding to the Family

Hi, all. Hopefully you had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying the winter. Our announcements are short with this edition of the magazine, but they are happy ones. 00JD Helloooo?

Well, after a brief hiatus, we’re back. Chanda (Lynch) and Paul Kirchner were blessed with a baby boy, Cameron Stalder Kirchner, in April. He joins big brothers Xander and Connor. Chanda and Paul are having fun managing three boys aged 3 and under. Chanda is still with NCR Corp in Atlanta, serving as senior division counsel. She is thankful Paul is willing to be a stay-at-home dad, and says he rocks at his job. Marisa (Salazar) Garza reports that she got married on April 30 to Gregorio Garcia at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by the River Walk in San Antonio. And finally, a plea: send me stuff that’s going on with you, even if it’s boring. Please, or we may have to go back on hiatus. God bless, and go Irish. — Brian J. 01JD Good Times

After taking a break for children, Marjorie McCanta High returned to work in various temporary positions, and recently accepted a full-time staff attorney position with the Northwest Justice Project in Seattle. She will be working with the CLEAR Domestic Violence project providing advice, unbundled legal service and referrals to low-income domestic violence survivors throughout Washington State. She is thrilled to be back in legal services and out of the diaper phase. After having served as a best man in three weddings, including Felipe Merino’s, Rudy Monterrosa finally tied the knot with Cecilia Lopez on Oct. 22. They were married at the historic Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles Church in downtown Los Angeles and joined by friends and family from around the world. Attending from the Law School were AnnMarie Devita, Sean Yuzwa, Gail Navarro Salcido, Michael Durham, Hon. Qiana Lillard, Liz Padilla, Jon and Julie Gunnigle, and Adrian Rosales. Other alumni in attendance included Alex ’04 and Jacki Santana ’02, Monica Montañez ’08, Grisel Ruiz ’05, Jeff Milligan ’01 and Sam Johnson ’00. The lucky couple was married by Father John Conley, CSC, Rudy’s rector from Siegfried Hall and witnessed by Dr. Gilberto Cardenas and Dolores Garcia. Rudy and Cecilia now look forward to working together in their new building in downtown South Bend at the Monterrosa Law Group, LLC. In September, Allan Abinoja left the Illinois Department of Public Health to become an assistant regional counsel in the Chicago office of the US Department of Health and Human Services. It’s a dream move for Allan because he’s still doing the public health work he loves, but on the federal side. Allan and his wife, Lisa, welcomed their second daughter, Morgan Kristen, in April, so he enjoyed the generous paternity leave with the state before joining me over on the federal side. I got to go to the Miami game with Kathleen Lundy, who was in town for the ND Law School Alumni Board meeting. While enjoying great weather for the end of October, we got to catch up with Julie Foster, who finished the Chicago Marathon and raised almost $3,000 to combat breast and ovarian cancer. I got to briefly see Anne and Ryan Mahoney, Jason Scheiderer, Stephanie Renner and Kelly Murphy Bellinger, but missed some of our other classmates who were there. Kathleen and I enjoyed the Monogram Club’s 100-year celebration Friday night, getting great photos in the locker room, tunnel and on the field. I’m still smiling from such an amazing night. Ongoing communications update: Our listserv has lost about 120 of our classmates. Please go to my.nd.edu to set up or update your profile with a good email address. Also, please friend me on Facebook and ask to join the Notre Dame Law Class of 2001 group so that I have another way to keep in touch with you and we can keep our class column full of fun updates. If you’re in that FB group, please don’t accept the requests to join from random people who were not in our class. Thanks. — Jonell Lucca; cell 602-677-3266; jonelllucca@yahoo.com

03MBA Win or Lose, Together Again

Football season was reunion season for members of the MBA class of 2003. Mike McGinn reports that he, Joe Moore, Mark Mikiciuk, Brian Begin, Kevin Adams, John “Noah” Guderyon, Eric Woodward, Paul Chrismer, Ben Holbrook and Jeff Skaggs made the Labor Day weekend trip to Austin to watch the Irish come up a little short against Texas in overtime. Other than the game, 2016 was a good year for Mike. He and his wife welcomed their third son, James Matthew McGinn, on March 6. In August, Mike started a new job as vice president of land acquisition at Trumark Homes in Newport Beach. Josh Talge reports that he, Paul Fortino, Brock Sturdivant and Patrick Orie took on Hurricane Matthew and won (or at least it was a split decision) when the four got together for the NC State game and a long weekend of golf at Pinehurst in October. While the game was a bust thanks to the hurricane, the foursome had a blast spending a few days together and maintaining the golfing tradition that started on Fridays during b-school. Arthur Cizcek connected with Eugenio Escamilla while in South Bend to see Notre Dame beat Miami in late October. Also in town that weekend was Matt Durbin and his lovely bride, Heather. The happy couple celebrated their nuptials in Dallas and honeymooned in Italy earlier that month. Thanks for the reports. 04MBA Family Expands

Holly McDaniel and Justin Fuller are thrilled to announce that their son, John Robert, was born in July. Mary and Eric Nedell welcomed Eric John Nedell Jr. in October. John joins siblings Conor, Ann Monroe and Patrick in cheering hard for the Irish on Saturday afternoons. Chris Chotard came to Richmond in September to play in a member-guest golf tournament with Eric, and they finished exactly where they thought they would in the standings. Just think of where the Cubs historically have finished. Speaking of the Cubs, they are one game from elimination in the 2016 World Series at the print deadline. By the time this issue is out everyone will know if they were able to vault off of Chapman’s 8-out save in game 5 to win games 6 and 7. If not, it’s wait till next year. If they won, hopefully UPS will not lose the Chicago Cubs Spongebob as it makes its West Coast tour through Utah and San Francisco visiting Jason Young and Sam Stapleton. John Humphreys and Rodolfo Bollat were back on campus with their families for the MSU and Duke games. Please send updates. — Harry Howisen; hhowisen@gmail.com

Krishna (Thomas) Walker reports that she has a new job as the managing director, closing manager for Rabo AgriFinance in St. Louis. She supervises the commercial loan closers for the eastern third of the US. Rabo AgriFinance is the US commercial agricultural lending division of Rabobank International. If you can believe it, Krishna’s daughter Kyla is in eighth grade and is officially taller than her mom. Congrats to all. And here is a brief update on me. I’m writing this quarter’s Class Notes having lived in London for exactly eight days. It has been a bit of a whirlwind so far, but I am looking forward to settling in, finding a flat and remembering not to talk about my pants. Apparently, they are called “trousers” here and people don’t normally talk about their pants at work. Lesson learned. Finally, in memory of Kyle D. Smith, the Class of 2008 Mock Trial Award Fund has been established at the ND Law School. Please donate at donate.nd.edu, and under “designations” mark “Kyle D. Smith Class of 2008 Mock Trial Award.” This is an expendable scholarship, meaning that we will be able to award the scholarship as long as we have money in the fund. Please be generous this year and in years to come. — Marie-Therese Mansfield; mtmansfield@jumptrading.com
